Recoil Action: Firearm action that uses the force of the recoil to provide energy to cycle the action. Roller-delayed Blowback: A type of fi rearm action where rollers on the sides of the bolt are driven inward against a tapered bolt carrier extension. This forces the bolt carrier rearward at a higher velocity and delays movement of the bolt head. Rolling Block Action: A fi rearm action where the breech is seeled with a specially shaped breechblock able to rotate on a pin. The breechblock is locked in place by the hammer preventing the cartridge from moving backwards when fi red. Cocking the weapon allows the breechblock to be rotated to reload the weapon. Short Recoil Action: Action where the barrel and slide recoil together a short distance before they unlock and separate. The barrel stops quickly, and the slide continues rearward, compressing the recoil spring and performing the automated extraction and feeding process. During the last portion of its forward travel, the slide locks into the barrel and pushes the barrel back into battery. Slide Action: A fi rearm action where the handgrip is moved back and forth along the barrel in order to eject a spent cartridge and chamber a new one. This type of action is most common in shotguns and is also used in some rifl e designs. It is also called pump action. Snaphance: A method of fi ring a gun that uses a fl int set in the hammer that when the trigger is pulled causes the fl int to strike the frizzen to create a shower of sparks to ignite the priming powder. -

BACK IN BUSINE$$ Gun Industry Plans for the Expiration of the Federal Assault Weapons Ban September 7, 2004 Consumer Federation of America The Consumer Federation of America (CFA) is a nonprofit association of 300 consumer groups, representing more than 50 million Americans that was established in 1968 to advance the consumer interest through research, education, and advocacy. Special thanks to Whit Collins, Robert Ricker, and Joseph Vince for their expertise, comments, and review. 1 Introduction In 1994, President Clinton signed The Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, which included a ban on semiautomatic assault weapons such as the Uzi, AK-47, and TEC-9. The “assault weapons ban” also outlawed high-capacity ammunition magazines that hold more than ten rounds. However, in the negotiating process, lawmakers agreed to a ten-year sunset clause in the legislation. Thus, the assault weapons ban will expire on September 13, 2004 unless Congress and President Bush renew it. Both President Bush and Attorney General Ashcroft have repeatedly said that they support the assault weapons ban, and Attorney General Ashcroft has declared the ban constitutional. Due to the efforts of state gun violence prevention groups, reauthorization and strengthening of the ban is supported by more than 2,000 police chiefs, sheriffs, district attorneys and law enforcement groups. In addition, a majority of Americans support the assault weapons ban. Two national polls commissioned by CFA in September 2003 and February 2004 found that substantial majorities of the public supported renewing the federal assault weapons ban and even more strongly supported new measures to strengthen the ban. -

SALW Guide Global distribution and visual identification FN P90 Fact sheet https://salw-guide.bicc.de FN P90 SALW Guide FN P90 A personal defense weapon (often abbreviated PDW) is a compact semi- automatic or fully-automatic firearm similar in most respects to a submachine gun, but firing an (often proprietary) armor-piercing round, giving a PDW better range, accuracy and armor-penetrating capability than submachine guns, which fire pistol-caliber cartridges.The P90 was designed to have a length no greater than a man's shoulder width, in order to be easily carried and maneuvered in tight spaces, such as the inside of an armored vehicle. To achieve this, the weapon's design utilizes the unconventional bullpup configuration, in which the action and magazine are located behind the trigger and alongside the shooter's face, so that there is no wasted space in the stock. The P90's dimensions are also minimized by its unique horizontally mounted feeding system, wherein the box magazine sits parallel to the barrel on top of the weapon's frame. Overall, the weapon has an extremely compact profile. Experiences with the FN P90 Written by Sandy Wall The Houston, TX, Police Department was the first American law enforcement agency to deploy with the FN P90 submachine gun on its SWAT team. We received five P90s into our inventory in 1999 along with several thousand 5.7mm rounds of ammunition. After a short period of in-house testing and training, the P90s became operational within our entry team elements. The P90 has been utilized primarily at the point man positions where its CQB features are best utilized. The first time I saw a P90, I couldn’t help but notice how unique and interesting it looked. It was fun to shoot and no one could argue about the innovations the engineers at Fabrique National in Belgium had featured on this weapon. The fact remained, however, that the 5.7x28mm cartridge was unproven. We had all the energy data and gelatin shots, but had no documentation on what the round would do on a real human body. It may sound morbid, but in the tactical world the proof is in the real deal. That missing element was always in the back of our minds. Well, the jury is now in. Houston SWAT was involved with the first and only lethal engagement with the weapon to date. I first wrote an article on the P90 for the Texas Tactical Police Officers Association (TTPOA) Command Magazine. Then, as well as now, I carried a P90 as my primary weapon. I have shot thousands of 5.7mm rounds in training and continue to deploy with the weapon on every SWAT situation and high-risk warrant I respond to. -
