Removal of Stock Parts (Impingement System): 1. Remove the upper receiver from the lower receiver. 2. Remove the bolt carrier and charging handle from the receiver. 3. Remove the bolt from the carrier. 4. Remove the gas rings from the bolt using a thin flat edge. Set the bolt and bolt carrier aside for later installation steps. 5. Remove the top and bottom handguards from the barrel by pulling back on the delta ring and pulling the handguards apart. If you don’t have standard handguards, remove any handguard(s) that might be on the rifle. 6. Use a 3/4” wrench to remove the flash suppresser or muzzle break along with the crush washer from the barrel. 7. Use a 1/8” hardened punch and a hammer to drive out the front sight pins that hold the sight assembly in place. Some rifles will have tapered pins. Check both sides of the pins to determine if one side is larger than the other and drive out from the side that is the smallest. Once both pins are removed, remove the sight assembly/gas block and gas tube from the barrel by slightly twisting the assembly from side to side as you pull it forward off the barrel. You can use a soft mallet (e.g. rubber, plastic, or brass) to tap the assembly off, if needed. 8. Remove the stock front handguard cap from the barrel Installation of Adams Arms Retrofit Piston System Components 1. Installation of Receiver Bushing: Install the flash suppressor onto the barrel by hand tightening it to protect the barrel threads during this step.

Other Approaches to Civil-Military Integration: The Chinese and Japanese Arms Industries March 1995 OTA-BP-ISS-143 GPO stock #052-003-01408-4 Recommended Citation: U.S. Congress, Office of Technology Assessment, Other Approaches to Civil-Military Integration: The Chinese and Japanese Arms Industries, BP-ISS-143 (Washington, DC: U.S. Government Printing Office, March 1995). Foreword s part of its assessment of the potential for integrating the civil and military industrial bases, the Office of Technology Assessment con- sidered how the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and Japan, two Asian states with sizable defense industries, have succeeded in Aachieving significant levels of civil-military integration (CMI). CMI involves the sharing of fixed costs by promoting the use of common technologies, processes, labor, equipment, material, and/or facilities. CMI can not only lower costs, but in some cases, it can also expedite the introduction of advanced commercial products and processes to the defense sector. The paper is divided into two sections, one on the PRC and one on Japan. Each section describes the structure and management of the respective defense industrial base and then compares it with its U.S. counterpart. The paper then assesses the degree to which lessons from the PRC and Japanese cases can be applied to the U.S. defense technology and industrial base (DTIB). Although the political and security situations of the PRC and Japan, as well as their CMI objectives, differ from those of the United States, several interest- ing observations can be made. The Japanese, for example, with a limited de- fense market and an American security guarantee, emphasize dual-use design as well as the commercial aspects of many defense developments.

HANDGUN ACTION WRENCH Changing barrels on handguns has become an accepted part of the custom SYSTEM pistolsmith’s job, as well as a fairly common occurrence in a “repair” gun shop. • The Early Short, Magazine Lee-Enfield Rifle As Issued 1902-1932
The Early Short, Magazine Lee-Enfield Rifle as Issued 1902-1932 By Kirk E. Brumbaugh "The essence of infantry tactics consists in breaking clown the enemy's resistance by the weight and direction of its fire, and then completing Ms overthrow by assault. Although the enemy may not await the assault, infantry must be constantly animated with the desire to close with him. Troops under cover, unless enfiladed, can seldom be forced to retire by fire alone, and a decision by fire, even if possible, takes long to obtain. To drive an enemy from the field, assault, or the immediate threat of it, is almost always necessary." General Staff, War Office, Field Service Regulations. Part I (London: HMSO 1909 as amended 1912) The history of the Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) rifle is intertwined with events which set the strategic and 1 •fi tactical environment in which it was thrust when first issued in 1903. As a "weapons system," the Lee rifle, designed by American James Paris Lee, had been in British service for over a decade, first as a long rifle (1888), later also as a car- bine (1894). Combat experience in the Sudan in 1898, and the Boer War of 1899-1902, revealed the limitations of the rifle and carbine in their then current form and led to a fun- damental overhaul of British Army Doctrine and thought on how training, and development of a new rifle, should take place. Armies are frequently accused of planning for the "last war." For Britain and Empire forces, the period of 1900 through 1914 demonstrated exactly that.

Argentine versions tend to have slightly different parts measurements than Belgian-made FALs due to local manufacturing methods; therefore, most parts of the FSL series are not interchangeable with more standard FALs. The Fusil Automatico Liviano Modelo Para III (FALMP III) is virtually identical to the FAL 50-64, but again is longer and heavier, with a longer muzzle brake.
