Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club – Annual Report 2009~10 2 PRESIDENT’S REPORT

We can again be very optimistic about our club’s continuous improvement and individual player development. The 2009 / 2010 season was a positive step forward for developing a long term playing group that will see our Club be competitively consistent and therefore giving the entire group an opportunity to develop skills for a higher level.

The Club‟s initiative to support Nick Jewells‟ appointment as Captain Coach with a suitably skilled panel of coaches has proven invaluable in developing our players for the future, having a wealth of first class knowledge and general cricket experience within the panel is unequalled in Premier cricket and the benefits, no doubt, will be rewarded by their continuous improvement.

While the provision of a panel of coaches is broadly beneficial the leadership, commitment and professional preparation of the players by Nick has been outstanding and under his guidance will set a foundation and standard of excellence for this Club for many years.

Governance

Despite the Club‟s best efforts we again traded at a loss for the season, disappointing given the Board of Management worked extremely hard to ensure all areas of the club was managed responsibly and within good governance guidelines and financial accountability. A significant increase in membership subscriptions and the instigation of “Heat in the Kitchen” lunches was not enough to trade profitably. As is identified within the financial report the significant impact on the Club‟s income was the external hiring of the rooms for functions.

Our research suggests that a number of functions that would normally source a facility such as ours were conducted in private homes due to the economic impact for many people.

However the Board has already taken steps to turn this around and have developed a marketing strategy for the coming season in an endeavour to increase the use of the facility for functions.

It should also be noted that the skill diversity of our Board of Management is as broad and experienced as we have had for a very long time, not only cricket, but business, financial and marketing management.

Cricket

The future direction of Premier Cricket is currently being challenged by with a strategy that will ultimately see all Premier Clubs required to play a greater role within their respective communities to meet a broader range of operational criteria.

Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club – Annual Report 2009~10 3

For example by 2013 there will be another 2 teams incorporated within the competition taking to 20 the number of teams. The Clubs will be established from the north-west regions of - being Wyndham, Hume, Melton and Whittlesea - all identified as major growth areas of Melbourne not supported by Premier Cricket.

T20 cricket will continue to grow and the profile will increase, as we now see the Premier fixture includes T20 matches for points and there is a proposal for regional T20 competitions as well.

The strategy suggests the model Premier club in the future will incorporate Women‟s senior teams as well girls and boys junior teams and be an “In2cricket” venue. Our responsibilities as a Premier Club will continue to grow and the need to ensure we have structures in place to meet these challenges is imperative to develop even greater community partnerships and the provision of a primary community leadership role.

For our Club to benefit from this direction we will need to develop our own strategic plan, incorporating Cricket Victoria‟s guiding principles for Premier Cricket‟s future direction to ensure we consolidate our Club with a clear vision and understanding of how we can contribute to the “big picture” of cricket in our region moving forward.

Volunteers

The Board of Management should be complimented for committing to and supporting the innovation of the development of a coaching panel which has become the envy of other competition clubs. As touched on earlier in this report we now have a Board with a complimentary set of skills that assists with good governance and challenges and debates issues with a passion and a strategic vision. This strengthens our ability to continuously improve both on and off the field.

The club formally acknowledged the retirement of Bill and Nance Wills, Pat Prendergast, Ann Walker and Marilyn Harvey after many years of service to this cricket club at the presentation night, however it would be remiss we did not record in this manner again our appreciation for their long term dedication to our Club.

I take this opportunity particularly acknowledge once again the contribution by all, volunteers throughout the season appreciated;

The Thursday night meals team lead by Helen Hudgson, Sarah Walker, Karen Voelkl providing delicious fair each selection night is a great tradition and appreciated by all. The continued contribution of Martin Wylie, this season‟s “Best Clubman”. “Marty” is highly regarded as a key Board member and team manager well done and we hope there is many years left serving our club.

The new initiative this season of a series of lunches, the “Heat in the Kitchen” was successfully driven by Mark Dunsford. We all thank Mark for his efforts in establishing a significant supporter data base and a successful series of lunches and outstanding guest speakers. I‟m sure with continued support we can grow this initiative into a primary calendar of event fundraisers for our Club.

Forty-one of our playing list of 60-plus this season have come from our pathway region, further reinforcing the role our Club plays within the region. Accepting our responsibility as a Premier Club in the region and the development and support of pathway squads is a task we are proud of and that

Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club – Annual Report 2009~10 4 we take very seriously. The strength of our partnership with local associations is imperative with support from Cricket Victoria ensures a well coordinated program for young aspiring cricketers to reach their potential - to coaches, managers and scorers for providing much needed support and direction. We also acknowledge the role that many parents play providing background support, guidance and for the manner in which many have embraced the “Heat” as their Club. .

Sponsorship

The Frankston City Council should be acknowledged for their ongoing support for the provision of first class Jubilee Park facilities. Local Government plays a primary role in the provision and maintenance of our facilities we congratulate and thank Garry Woollard, Manager Parkland Services.

Number one again - the curation team headed by Dana James whose tireless work was again rewarded this season. Thank you for consistently providing high standard practice facilities, with bonus centre sessions as well as providing all levels with excellent playing conditions week in week out.

Thanks to our major sponsor BUILDSAFE, Phil Graf and his team are fantastic supporters of our Club a long period, we express the Board‟s gratitude for his continued support. The Frankston RSL, have also been long term partners supporting our Club over our journey. Mark Dunsford - Financial Services Partners, Martin Scanlon - Rail Signalling Services, the Honorable Bob Smith MLC and David Glennie of Karingal Optical are all special sponsor partners and we appreciate their ongoing involvement.

To all our players, loyal volunteers, members and growing number of sponsors I particularly, on behalf of the Board, wish to thank you for your continued support throughout 2009/2010 season your support is the very foundation from which we can better prepare to take on the challenges ahead that will make us a successful and sustainable Premier Club.

We are all looking forward with great anticipation and excitement to the „HEAT‟ being competitively strong in 2010 / 2011.

Dennis Prendergast PRESIDENT

Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club – Annual Report 2009~10 5 General managER’S REPORT

It is with pleasure that I submit the Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club‟s Annual Report for Season 2009~10.

Administration As in previous years, Cricket Victoria provided funds and assistance to enable the Club to manage its administration responsibilities in accordance with Cricket Victori‟s Criteria Assessment for all Premier Cricket Clubs. Cricket Victoria‟s support is greatly appreciated.

Playing Nick Jewell took the reins as Senior Coach. The Club recruited Arron Crawford from Western Australia as its professional player and Matt Chasemore from Dandenong. Other new players to the Club were Ben Ashkenazi (Pearcedale), Tom Baron (Mt Eliza), Stefan Burnell (Baxter), Mitch Drummond (Mt Eliza), Brendan Jovic (Delacombe Park), Joel Reid (Sorrento), Nathan Cassano (Frankston YCW) and Brad McDonald (Somerville) while Ryley Shaw (Red Hill), Tanner Stanton (Berwick) and Lachie Whitfield (Mt Martha) played games during the season. In addition, Andrew Cowen returned to the Club as 2nd Eleven Captain after a season playing with Mornington and Shaun Ezard returned to Melbourne after a two year absence playing in Darwin. Shaun captained the Third Eleven for the first half of the Season but played with local MPCA Club, Somerville, after Christmas. Players who left the Club were Brett Harrop (Melbourne Uni), Stuart Clark, Anthony Craddock (returned to Skye), Ben Holt (Northcote), Arryn Siposs & Alex Benbow – Football with Dandenong Stingrays, Stuart Vouden (Casey-South Melbourne) and Ash Walker (retired) while Mac Watson (illness & injury) and Wade Jackson (overseas) played a few games early in the season. David Nankervis did not play until after the Christmas break due to injury sustained in a pre-season Practice Match.

The playing group was well supported by Mark O’Sullivan as Chairman of Selectors whose contributions prior to and during the season were fantastic and by the legendary Ian Boldiston who again continued setting up the Practice Nets on Training Nights and as Team Manager for the Firsts. Brett Hudgson took on the role as Cricket Operations Director and put in an amazing amount of work. Remember that Bart also captained the Fourth Eleven and Co-coached the Dowling Shield Squad during the season – we should thank his employee for HIS contribution to the Club!. In addition, he took the reins on most Tuesdays & Thursdays in the absence of Boldo whose 70-plus years had finally slowed him down! Graeme Brewer was Manager for the Seconds & Thirds when at Home while Martin Wylie did likewise in their Away Games and Adrian Coleman continued his role with the Fourths. Glenn Davey again excelled as First Eleven scorer and statistician providing statistics and performances as well as providing excellent scoresheets. Brandon Black did the job again for the Second Eleven.

Our Curator – Dana James – again did a fantastic job on the wicket table and the Practice . The Adrian Butler Oval took out the prestigious Premier Cricket Ground of the Season for the 8th time. While the playing surface of the East Oval was still suffering due to lack of water, the pitches were excellent and rated in the top echelon amongst the other Premier 3rds & 4ths grounds. The quality of the wickets and playing surfaces are a credit to Dana and his off-sider Phil Regos.

Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club – Annual Report 2009~10 6 Facility One of the great legacies we inherited from the Sub-District days is the band of volunteers who still form the core of our support services. Bill and Nance Wills again have worked hard and long, and having announced their retirements, will be very difficult to replace. The Canteen again functioned smoothly with Nance and her regular helpers – Pat Prendergast, Anne Walker, Marilyn Harvey and Christie Wills – continuing the Frankston tradition of looking after the players, our Guests and visiting teams in fine fashion. When we visit some of the other Clubs we realise how fortunate we are in having this quality of dedicated volunteers. In addition to these wonderful people, Ray and Helen Hudgson did a magnificent job for the Club with Helen taking on the meals on Thursday nights with regular help from Sarah Walker and Karen Voelkl and Ray handling the Bar Roster for the external functions throughout the season.

Season 2009~10 was an extremely successful one for the Club with two of our teams reaching the Finals with the 4th Eleven making it to the 1-day Grand Final as well. Frankston Peninsula was truly a Club where it was a pleasure to be around this season. On the individual side, Nick Jewell and Matt Chasemore finished in the top ten in the Ryder Medal, Scott Boland represented Victoria in the Second Eleven and Brett Hudgson was awarded the Best Player Trophy for the Fourth Eleven.

Finally I wish to express my thanks to Dennis Prendergast and the Committee of Management who worked exceedingly hard in whatever jobs they were asked to do. It was a pleasure to work with this great Club and with such wonderful people.

Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club – Annual Report 2009~10 7 COaCh’S

REPORT

Overall I believe Season 2009~10 to be a successful season for our Club. While some may look at results and see no improvement in terms of ladder position or titles won which is one way of looking at the painting on the wall. If we however look at the big picture and see that we had six”new” players who were exposed to the level that they had not played before, we recruited two senior players to the Club and saw two home grown boys achieve more than ever before. Scott Boland was selected to play for Victoria in the Futures Under 23 Competition which is the new version of State Second Eleven, perform at a high standard and certainly not look out of place. Ben Clements also had the honor to Captain the First Eleven in the absence of the injured Darren Groves and myself. This would make Ben the youngest player to ever captain a Premier Cricket 1st XI I suggest.

A total of 19 players represented the Club in the 1st XI, however most pleasing is the fact that all of them can or will be good players at the level, which I would suggest that in the past many players received a game when not ready, not good enough or we had no other options!

This year we finished on a high, not conceding a point after the Christmas break until the Quarter Final which was to the eventual Grand Finalists, St Kilda. This saw us storm back into finals contention and finishing 7th while just a few weeks earlier the chance of missing finals action looked imminent. However the first five weeks of the season were absolutely not good enough and will not be tolerated in the future. I understand we tried changing orders, had a different looking team at times, a change of coaching structure over the pre- season but our performance was not up to scratch for Premier 1st XI cricket. We won the first game with a bonus point destroying a young North Melbourne, then had our pants pulled down by a hungry Geelong losing with a bonus point then on a season defining weekend lost two games both by one run through dumb, stupid, selfish (I could go on and on) cricket. No Balls, Wides, Free Hits, loss of back to back wickets, not being able to rotate the strike cost us a top Four finish and a home final!! To be 1-4 after 5 Rounds is not acceptable for the talent that is in this group. If we lose to a better skilled team I can live with that but when we lose because of selfish, dumb, thoughtless cricket, players will pay the ultimate price as we move forward.

Matt Chasemore came to our Club this Season and his attitude to training and game-day mind set was outstanding from day one. He set the standard very high and it‟s no coincident that his results – 29 wickets @ 18.24 and 377 runs @ 25.13 – read very well however I‟m sure that Cheeks wants more runs in his column. This Season is no doubt his best for some time.

I mentioned Scott Boland earlier and his first full season as a First Eleven player is one he can be pleased with as a start – 26 wickets @ 24. A fine start that saw some reward with higher selection but we and Scott know that this is just a start and as much gain he made this year, certainly needs to be made again next year.

Ben Clements had the opportunity to captain the Club as earlier mentioned and I have no doubt this has and will in the future help his own game by taking responsibility for others and thinking about the game, not drifting off and thinking about who knows what at times!! His knock in the Quarter Final was the best I have seen from Ben and I know for a fact raised a few eyebrows down at the Junction. Like Scott this needs to be Ben‟s standard every time he walks to the crease and refuse to give is wicket away.

Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club – Annual Report 2009~10 8 We had others play good roles at times throughout the season and produce personal bests which we asked for at the beginning of the season – Chris McCormick, Matt Gapes and Joel Wylie to name a few. With Darren Groves not getting any younger I can see Joel taking over with Boland as our new ball attack for some years to come. While wickets didn‟t flow this season for him, the newfound control was very noticeable. Jack Benbow, Kierran Voelkl and Dale Elmi – all got a taste and I‟m looking forward for improvement from them, as I am with Michael McClean who I can see playing a role in the middle order if we head in the direction of youth, which I believe is the only way to go.

The loss of James Miller‟s 42 wickets @ 17 last season compared with 13 @ 29.15 this season and his lower order batting – 278 @ 27.8 c/w 143 @ 17.88 and Luke Walker‟s – 524 @ 58.22 c/w 168 @ 16.80 – left a massive hole that we need to fill. It would be fair to say if those numbers were added to this season, certainly a Top Four finish would be a minimum result. I‟m certainly looking forward for the return of their best, it will make us one of the most powerful lists in the competition. We had a taste of the future in Round 11 when we selected seven players under the age of 21 years. Certainly it was a risk at the selection table but one well worth it if we are looking further than the end of our noses. The exciting part is we still managed to qualify for the finals and remained undefeated post Christmas in the home and away season. Hopefully however, the older and more experienced players can find the spark that made them good players and return the results that we need to fit into our future plans.

Results from our Second Eleven were up and down throughout the season, however Win / Loss ratio is not something that overly concerns me in this Grade. If we are winning and not developing the next generation of players well enough we are failing. We need to make sure that the balance between developing players but also creating the “winning culture” is evenly distributed, and at times this season I don‟t think the balance was quite spot on. The absence of our 2nd XI captain on the Selection Committee definitely needs to be addressed. This no doubt will help to define roles required for “next in line” players. I would love to see players such as Wylie, McClean, Voelkl, Elmi, Benbow and Dew dominate at this level so that when their name comes up we are forced to pick them through form not through necessity. Then when they do make the step they are more than ready to be “players” and not spectators during the game. This is part of a very talented group that we need to get tougher – physically and mentally.

The Third Eleven, historically, would be the hardest Grade to “get right”. We need to find an excellent Captain to take this group under his wing, show some leadership on the ground and drag out the best in these kids‟ games. We had a fantastic Captain for the first half of the season in Shaun Ezard. His decision to put the Club first and forego opportunities in higher Grades was a great clubman‟s‟ choice and for that I thank him greatly. A huge loss on and off the field for The Heat, but we thank Ezzy and wish him well. For some players, they believe they should be playing higher and thus play with “bad heads on” and for others they are just making the step up from 4th‟s and may feel out of their depth. We have some good players almost ready to play higher, as we do in the 2nds, but something holds them back. A good Captain is vital, and hopefully as a club we can search far and wide through our contacts to find this person. Well done to Peter Sofra and others who captained throughout the season.

Once again I was very proud of the Fourth Eleven this season. We would have dearly loved for them to win some silverware that they deserved, but I can promise you, you need to lose some finals before you really know what it means and what it takes to win them. Big players stand up in finals and make a name for themselves. Our kids got us to a Grand Final appearance in the One-day competition and a home Quarter Final in the main draw. Unfortunately the main players had a bad day, which can happen in this game of ours, and we were bundled out of the finals. A sad way to finish, however there was also an opportunity for a young player to put his name in lights for higher honors. That said, the boys were fantastic all season and it was a credit to them how they played throughout the year. Certainly there are some very exciting times ahead when these young boys turn into men and climb through the grades. I would be expecting some very good success with this group in years to come. Well done to Bart for his captaincy once again.

I am very pleased with our recruiting this season, starting from the top end right through to the youngsters of the Club. Matthew Chasemore was fantastic as mentioned earlier. Arron Crawford was a big signing for our Club as no less than six Premier Clubs were chasing him. For Arron to choose Frankston over the likes of St Kilda and Northcote to name a few is a good feather in our cap. Unfortunately, Aaron‟s output in terms of

Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club – Annual Report 2009~10 9 getting on the park and overall results were disappointing to say the least. We had a small glimpse of him near full fitness and I have no doubt that he can be the difference between us making finals and us being a genuine Top Four contender. Nathan Cassano has shown that he will be in time (when his body grows) be a very good batsman at 1st XI level. In exactly the same boat is Ben Ashkenazi, his work ethic for such a young “man” put some senior players to shame. A little work on his action is needed but no doubt a 1st XI bowler in the making. Brad McDonald I believe has the X Factor most clubs are looking for. He can be explosive with the bat, needs some work technically but seems to be a competitor and has a fantastic eye. Another very exciting recruit is Brendan Jovic. To me reminds me of a very young former Australian bowler Mick Lewis both with his action and more so with his personality – rough around the edges but still with a growing confidence. Needs lots of work however 2-3 more seasons I think will bowl with genuine pace. Mitch Drummond has something I like – tall, fit and swings the ball. Everything you need to be a top line bowler, however I want to see if he really wants to play at the top level. I think Drummo will be Shaun Graf’s Project next season….! Although not a first year player, Sam Glenn excites me with his ability with both bat and gloves. His personality suggests to me he will be a very hardened keeper / batsman in a few years time.

I would like to thank many people for their help this season and the list is long, but all play a very important role. To Dennis Prendergast for all his help, support and communication has made the job so much easier, thank you. To the entire Committee an absolute pleasure to work with. In my 14 years in District / Premier Cricket – 12 of those at one of the most powerful clubs there has been, we are well and truly ahead of where I have come from in terms of off-field support. Hopefully through all this support we can transfer it to on-field success and a dominant era. Wayne Ross was a fantastic help throughout the season and no doubt does more than his “paid time” requires him to do. To Ian Boldiston – what a clubman! The nets set up every session, cordial and ice on game day, every Club would love to have him, but luckily for us we have got him! Many thanks to Brett Hudgson for doing the worst job in the world most Tuesday and Thursday nights, not to mention the pre-season and running the nets. To Glenn Davey – without doubt the best in the business at what he does. Any request for certain statistics was always done within a day or two with more than the required information required – a very big help to players and coach, thank you. Mark O’Sullivan did an amazing job chairing selection. The time he puts in is way more than expected and shows to all the passion and drive he has for Frankston to become a powerhouse of Premier Cricket. He has at times a very passionate personality and desperately wants success. Sometimes we all need to remember that with youth it takes time to see the ultimate results…! Darren Groves for taking charge of the ship on game day when State duties took me away. I‟m sure we do things differently as captains but it shows both messages getting through with some of the results we had when I was away. To the other Coaches who had a very difficult role this season with the senior coach being away in week-long blocks, and in review knowing the communication at times from myself needed to be better, did a fantastic job. Dave McClean, Peter Buchanan and Shaun Graf – thank you for your help. Personally, I am looking forward to working with you all again and making the coaching panel easily the competitions best. Chris Hall is a very handy “consultant” for our Club often running spinning sessions throughout the season and offering Saxon Sports on wet days and at other times free of charge for our boys to access during the day. Dana James is the best Curators in the business and we are very thankful to have him at Frankston. Mark Dunsford did a tremendous job running the Heat In The Kitchen Luncheons. These not only made some significant funds for our Club, but also sold our message to the masses in the MPCA, which we all know can be challenging. Personally I enjoyed my friendship that grew with Mark directly from his love of Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club.

As for next season, many names have been discussed as recruiting possibilities and some meetings have been underway. From a coaching point of view, I definitely need to tinker with the way I did a few things .I have spoken already with Peter Buchanan and have offered him the senior assistant coaching role, which he has keenly accepted. Peter is also completing his Level 3 Coaching Course, so along with Shaun and myself, we have three Level 3 Coaches on our Panel.

Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club – Annual Report 2009~10 10 I doubt whether another Club in the World let alone Australia could lay claim to this. We can also proudly add to our coaching staff Ian Brayshaw. Many would know his son James as a fine cricketer and TV presenter, not to mention AFL club President (Look out Prendy) however Ian‟s name in sport is just as prominent. A very good coach with worldly experience gained from coaching Kent in the County System as well as Captaining WA in our very own Sheffield Shield. Ian has also spent many hours working with the great Dennis Lillie in the art of fast/swing . Certainly a very good pick up for Frankston Peninsula CC.

I believe that we are way ahead of this time last season regardless of where our season finished. The games gained by our kids throughout the lower grades and experience of playing games and a final against the eventual Grand Finalist in the First Eleven for our younger “rookies” is priceless in my eyes. We are building a foundation for a very strong crack at the ultimate success. Hard work and dedication to our task will determine our fate. When that time comes is in our hands now, which is exciting.

Thank you for the opportunity to coach this wonderful Club whilst still playing first class cricket. Not a decision that in my time I have seen before! In my mind, no doubt will be a very rewarding risk.

Many thanks

Nick Jewell Senior coach

Finishing on top of the ladder at the end of the season provided us with a “home” final and a game against the team that finished in 8th position – Essendon. However, one of our few losses for the season was against this team during the Home & Away Season. Unfortunately, Essendon repeated the dose and our season came to an abrupt halt.

It was a very disappointing effort, particularly from our “senior” players. .We got away to the worst of starts when batting first and really never recovered although the partnership between Brett and Nathan put us back in the game but we were not able to capitalize on that and 183 runs on the Butler Oval are not enough! Our bowling stint was in disarray from the start and while Ben and Brett put the brakes on and picked up a few wickets, we were always 50 runs short of being a real chance.

It was an unfortunate result, but one that we need to “put in the memory bank” as experience learned, and go ahead to the next step.

During the absence of Nick Jewell and Darren Groves, Ben again took the reigns and on all occasions did an exceptional job. His knock in the Quarter Final against St Kilda of 88 not out was brilliant and a sign of just what Ben is capable of.

Wills Award – MARTIN WYLIE Martin‟s role as a Board of Management Director extended to Team Manager of the 2nds and 3rds and as Transport Coordinator when we played at Geelong. Marty also utilised his transportation talents with the Regional Under 18‟s in Traralgon in January.

Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club – Annual Report 2009~10 39 Frankston peninsula cricket scholarship

The Club‟s Cricket Scholarship was awarded, following the Pathways Competitions to Langwarrin‟s Michael Edwards. Michael played in the Under 16 team as a first-year Under 16 player. In his first year of Pathways, Michael scored 176 runs at an average of 35.20%. The Scholarship entitles Michael to train with Frankston Peninsula throughout 2009~10 and participate in any coaching activities run by the Club. Of course, it is our hope that Michael decides to accept the Club‟s invitation to play with it next season – the Scholarship also covers uniforms – clothing and caps – and Membership Fees.

Bill foley education & cricket scholarship

The Bill Foley Education Scholarship perpetuates the memory of Bill Foley, long-time stalwart of the Cricket community throughout the State of Victoria and in particular in Cricket Administration with the Mornington Peninsula Cricket Association, the Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club and the South East Country Region. The Scholarship, valued at $10,000 a year, is to assist the recipient with education and cricket costs. The Scholarship is to be awarded annually – for at least five years.

This was a wonderful gesture by the late Bill Foley and the Foley Family.

The Bill Foley Education and Cricket Scholarship for 2010 was awarded to Kierran Voelkl.

Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club – Annual Report 2009~10 40

Finance

The club realised an Operating net loss of $21,372 for Season 2009/10. The financial information is based on accrual accounting, is exclusive of GST, and includes non cash transactions such as amortisation, depreciation and adjustments. To expand, $6,360 of the listed income was still receivable at 30 April 2010, while $6,165 of the listed expenditure was still payable at 30 April 2010. The following explanations are provided for clarification of the result in some areas.

Income

Cricket Victoria As per other seasons, assistance from Cricket Victoria in the form of Distributions, Internet Grant, Junior Development Grant, and Administration Manager Grants is greatly appreciated. Cricket Victoria also assisted in reimbursing costs incurred to host finals.

Bar and Canteen The Canteen provided sandwiches, rolls, cakes and cordial for afternoon teas – free of charge – to the value of $3,418. Once these gratis items are accounted for, the Canteen is shown to have operated quite profitably with a profit close to $5,000. This is fantastic effort to be able to cover the cost of all of the Club’s afternoon teas through Canteen revenue. The Bar traded at considerably lower level than last season, reflecting the decreased level of activities held in the facility throughout the season.

Facility The use of the facility did not match the increased usage achieved during last season. As such, the revenue represented for facility hire has decreased, and consequently effects bar revenue as mentioned. The Club have plans to address this trend for Season 2009/10 and launch an advertising campaign to promote the facility to the community as attractive and affordable for functions.

Membership As decided at the 2009 AGM, the Club decided to implement a restructured playing membership fee structure for Season 2009/10. This fee structure was introduced to provide a closer representation of the costs incurred by the Club on behalf of each player, and to also bring the fees closer in line with other Premier clubs. The structure retained acknowledgement of significant games service from senior players and provided an alternative fee structure for development list players. As a result from the change, combined revenue from playing and social memberships more than doubled. We thank the playing group considerably for their strong support of their club through this new membership structure.

Social During Season 2009/10, the Club launched “Heat in the Kitchen”, a series of four luncheons which included fine dining, high profile guest speakers and the opportunity to reminisce with past and present friends and family. Organised amazingly by Mark Dunsford, these luncheons proved to be very successful for the Club. Along with significantly increasing the profile of the Club, they generated a profit of over $5,000. In addition, the presentation night held to conclude the season was very well attended where $3,595 was collected.

Sponsorship We are grateful to continue to receive wonderful support from our sponsors, in particular Buildsafe Housing Insurance (Phil Graf), Frankston RSL (Rob Morrison), Rail Signalling Services (Martin Scanlon), The Honourable Bob Smith MLC, Financial Services Partners (Mark Dunsford), Karingal Optical (David Glennie), Saxon Sports Frankston (Chris Hall), The Door Store Moorabbin (Richard Baron), Bell Building Services (Bill Chernishoff) and Peninsula Pest Control (Dale O’Neil).

Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club – Annual Report 2009~10 41 Expenditure

Facility As expected with the quality of facility the Club has access to, there is a considerable amount of expenditure to maintain its presentation and operations. Included within Facility expense is $10,563 for electricity. This high usage cost has prompted the club to further investigate the implementation of solar panels and possible grants available for their installation. Cleaning and Hygiene costs amounted to $2,548, Materials and Repairs to the facility amounted to $1,885, and non cash expenditure of amortisation and depreciation amounted to $4,546 and $2,214 respectively. The Club also contributed $3,865 to the Security Shutters installed at the completion of last season which have proved very helpful in preventing further break-ins. Unfortunately around $1,100 was allocated to unnecessary security call outs and telephone charges due to ongoing faults with the security monitoring system throughout the season.

Grounds Ground rental fees payable to the Frankston City Council for the A.H. Butler Oval and Eastern Oval increased to $10,200 for Season 2009/10. Following vandalism in March 2010 on the A.H. Butler Oval, $200 was spent on another cover repair kit to accompany hessian covers and a cover repair kit purchased at the start of the season valued at $676.

Playing The Club continued with a policy of two professional players, with Nick Jewell (Captain/Coach) and Arron Crawford appointed for Season 2009/10.
