History of the Big Bash League The Big Bash League is an Australian professional Twenty20 cricket league, which was established in 2011 by Cricket Australia. The Big Bash League replaced the previous competition, the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash, and features eight city-based franchises instead of the six state teams which had participated previously. BBL matches are played in Australia during the summer in the months of December and January. Of the eight teams in the tournament, five have won the title at least once. The Perth Scorchers are the most successful team in the league's history, winning the title three times, including consecutively for two seasons in 2013–14 and 2014–15. They were also the champions of Big Bash League 2016-17, and hold the record for reaching the final of the tournament the most times, doing so consecutively in the first four seasons. The other four teams to have won the title are the Sydney Sixers in the inaugural season (2011–12), the Brisbane Heat in the second season (2012–13), the Sydney Thunder in 2015–16 and the Adelaide Strikers in 2017-18. Earlier, the top two teams in the tournament used to qualify for the Champions League Twenty20 tournament. It was an annual international Twenty20 competition played between the top domestic teams from various nations. However, the CLT20 became defunct from 2015 onwards. In February 2015, Cricket Australia announced that a Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) would commence in the 2015–16 season, with teams aligned to the men's competition. The teams share the names and colours of the men's BBL teams. Accordingly, there are two teams from Sydney and Melbourne and one team from Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Hobart. The inaugural Women's Big Bash League was won by the Sydney Thunder (WBBL) against the Sydney Sixers (WBBL). Currently, the salary cap for a team is $1.60 million. Under the cap, a team can sign a total of 18 contracted players consisting of a minimum of 2 rookie contracts and a maximum of 2 overseas players. In addition, 2 overseas replacement players can also be signed by a team. With a national record 111 Test matches played for his country, he captained the side in 80 Tests and 218 One Day Internationals. He holds the records for the most Test runs by a New Zealander (7172) and the most One Day International runs and matches by a New Zealander (8007 and 279). During his captaincy he led his side to Test series victories against India, England, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Fleming captained New Zealand in the historic first Twenty20 International of the world, played against Australia in 2005. The Perth Scorchers - Adam Voges Adam Voges , coach of both the Western Australian state side and the Perth Scorchers, took over the positions in May 2018 when Justin Langer was appointed the national coach. Voges had an excellent career in the BBL as his statistics show. In 49 innings (54 matches) he totalled 1040 runs with a strike rate of 123.96 and an average of 28.11. His bowling statistics were 6 innings, 3 for 76 at an economy rate of 6.91. He took 19 catches and was awarded “Man of the Match” once. Glenn Maxwell – A Much Travelled Player At 30 years of age, it is not unreasonable to describe Glenn Maxwell as “much travelled” when you take into account that he has represented the following teams in various forms of the game: Australia, Delhi Daredevils, Fitzroy-Doncaster, Hampshire, Hampshire 2nd XI, Kings XI Punjab, Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars, Mumbai Indians, Victoria, Victoria Second XI, Victoria Under-19s and Yorkshire. A batting all-rounder, Maxwell is known for his unconventional stroke making, making it difficult for the opposing captain to set the field for his batting. Maxwell is also a handy off-spinner and an outstanding fieldsman. Maxwell had a solid 2017–18 Big Bash League season, with scores of 8 (5), 4 (6), 50 (39), 33 (23), 60 (39), 31* (16), 28 (16), 1 (3) and 84 (47). During the year a report came out which argued that Maxwell was the most effective fielder in the history of the Big Bash. In 2018 Fox sports included Maxwell as an all- rounder in its Best BBL Team of All Time. From Trinidad, he bats right handed and is a medium fast right arm bowler. In the BBL he has represented the Sydney Sixers, the Melbourne Renegades, and since 2018, the Melbourne Stars. He made his Test debut at Lord’s in 2004 playing for his nation until his last Test in Sri lanka in December 2010. His One Day International career also commenced in 2004 in England. His last ODI match was against India in October 2014. His first T20 international match was against New Zealand in February 2006; his last was against England in April 2016. He holds the record for the world’s best bowling performance in an ODI match with 6/43, against Zimbabwe in February 2013. His half-brother Darren Bravo has also represented the West Indies in the Test ,ODI and T20 arenas. Dwayne produced and sang the song “Champion Champion” which became a club anthem in India, after the West Indies won the 2016 T20 World Cup.
