Affiliated with the strong Ovens & Murray Football Netball League, -Rutherglen Football Netball Club is seeking an enthusiastic & passionate person for the position of senior playing or non-playing coach for season 2016 and beyond.

The club offers:

The Corowa-Rutherglen Football Netball Club was born in 1979 following a merger between the Corowa and Rutherglen Football Clubs. The club successfully won premierships in 2000 and 2003 and played finals in 2014.

The Corowa Township is situated on the banks of the picturesque Murray River with excellent schooling, employment opportunities and recreational facilities.

Corowa & Rutherglen – The Towns & District

The townships of Corowa and Rutherglen are located approximately 275kms north east of Melbourne via the Hume Freeway. Travel time is approximately 3 hours. The population of Corowa is 5600 whilst Rutherglen’s is 2480.

The area is home to a wide range of small to medium sized enterprises ranging from tourism and hospitality to manufacturing and agriculture. The major industries include wineries, abattoirs, agriculture machinery sales and services, food processors, munitions factory, freight companies and a thriving tourism industry. The major employers are the tourism, accommodation and hospitality industries. Transport and agricultural industries are also extensive throughout the region with employment available for tradesmen, laborers and service professionals.

Rutherglen is the viticulture centre of Australia’s oldest wine growing region situated on the banks of the Murray River.

Corowa is commonly referred to as the Birthplace of Federation due to its significant role in bringing about the Federation of the Australian Colonies. During the 1893 Corowa Conference organised by the Local Border Federation League, a motion put forward by Bendigo’s Dr John Quick was unanimously carried. This motion had the effect of changing both the pace and direction of the Federation Movement in Australia.

Club History

The Corowa Rutherglen Football Club was born in 1979, the result of an amalgamation between the Corowa and Rutherglen Football Clubs.

Both clubs share long histories and fierce rivalries dating back to the early 1900’s.

The Rutherglen Football Club shares the most number of Ovens & Murray premierships with 15.

Many Rutherglen footballers went on to play VFL football including Fred Hiskins (Essendon), Rupert Hiskins (Carlton), Arthur & Stan Hiskins (South Melbourne), Bill Francis (Fitzroy), Hassa Mann (Melbourne) and Grag Tate (Essendon), who also coached the 1954 premiership team. In the current era Robbie Campbell is a premiership player at Hawthorn.

The Corowa Football Club started out as Border United in 1895. Eventually becoming Corowa, the club won two O&M premierships in 1932 and 1968. Players to go onto VFL include Jim Sandral (Melbourne) and Peter Chisnall (North Melbourne). Fred Swift, who played in Richmond’s 1967 premiership, went on to coach Corowa to its 1968 premiership.

Corowa Rutherglen formed in 1979 through the amalgamation of the 2 clubs. Players to progress to VFL/AFL include Brett McKenzie, Paul Bartlett, John Longmire, Daryl Henderson, Mark O’Donoghue (North Melbourne), Paul Lewis, Adam Houlihan (Geelong), Adam Mathews, David Teague, Ryan Houlihan (Carlton), Aaron Henneman (Essendon), Mick Gayfer, Damian Houlihan (Collingwood), Josh Houlihan, Brad Campbell (St. Kilda), Ben Mathews (), Jeff Bruce (Fitzroy), Peter Tossol (Melbourne). The club has won two premierships in 2000 and 2003.

The Ovens & Murray Football Netball League is presently one of the strongest country football leagues in Victoria having won the VCFL/AFL Victoria Country Championships on numerous occasions. The league comprises the following teams:

 Corowa Rutherglen  Albury  Lavington  Myrtleford  North Albury   Wangaratta Rovers  Wodonga  Wodonga Raiders  Yarrawonga.

The standard of football in the O&M is very strong with several well-known AFL players recruited to clubs. The club has a challenge to remain competitive to the point where finals are a realistic goal each year.

With the last premiership in 2003 the club and committee are motivated and hungry for continued success.

XVIII  Under 16  Under 14  Under 12  Auskick (Friday ) Netball: The netball club is an extremely important and valuable component of the Corowa Rutherglen Football Netball Club. Teams compete in the following grades:  A Grade  B grade  C Grade  16 & Under Facilities: The Corowa Rutherglen Football Netball Club is situated close to the centre of town. The ground is perhaps the largest in the O&M but is considered one of the better surfaces. The Murray River runs beside the ground which makes for a very picturesque setting. The change rooms are more spacious than most in the league. There is ample room for warm up including kicking and handball. There is also a dedicated trainers room plus a large shower area. The lighting for the ground is excellent and allows players to train at full pace during winter months. The club also has an excellent weights room/gym. This is available to players all year round and features free weight, universal weight stations and a running machine. The club prides itself on being socially active and catering for families. The social club rooms are the central hub for most club functions as well as providing meals after training on a Thursday night.

The Corowa Rutherglen Football Netball Club is truly the ‘country club of the OMFNL’. We offer a relaxed atmosphere but also a real determination to compete and succeed. This is truly a unique chance to experience coaching a quality club in a quality competition.
