    Murlpirrmarra Connection Students Shine @ West Australian Football League Indigenous Round 2013 South Fremantle Football Club Presidents Luncheon On Saturday July 6th 2013, the Murlpirrmarra Connection was most generously invited to attend and present at the South Fremantle Football Clubs Presidents Luncheon. Two of the Murlpirrmarra Connection’s year 12 students, Duran Patch and Braden Gilbert were given the great honour in tossing the coin to start the match between South Fremantle Football Club and Claremont’s League teams to mark the WAFL’s Indigenous round. Not only was the match the ABC TV’s match of the round but Braden and Duran had the great privilege to meet and get to know some of the great South Fremantle players of the past and also the present day players. A big thank you to South Fremantle’s Football Club’s CEO, Stuart Kemp, Melissa Marsh and Michelle Miller for their fabulous hospitality.     The History of the South Fremantle Football Club South Fremantle Football Club, nicknamed The Bulldogs, is a semi-professional Australian Rules Football Club and one of nine clubs that compete in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). It was formed in 1900 and has its training, administration and home games at Fremantle Oval. History The Fremantle Football Club (originally known as Unions and unrelated to either an earlier club which actually played rugby as well, or the current AFL club of the same name) had won ten premierships in the fourteen years that they were in the WA Football Association (now known as the West Australian Football League). By 1899, however, the club suffered from financial problems that caused the club to disband. The South Fremantle Football Club was formed to take their place following an application to the league by Griff John, who would be appointed secretary of the new club, with Tom O'Beirne the inaugural president. Most players, however, were from the defunct Fremantle club. The new club did well in its first year, finishing runners-up. However, over the next three seasons the performance fell away badly and, in April 1904 a Fremantle newspaper confidently reported that South Fremantle would not appear again. However, the club decided to carry on and centreman Harry Hodge took over as skipper, but the season was a disaster. The club won only one game. They won their first premiership in 1916 and went back-to-back in 1917, both times defeating their local rivals, East Fremantle in the final and challenge final.

    Annual Report 2009 discovery for a healthy tomorrow The Menzies School of Health Research was established in 1985 as a body corporate of the Northern Territory (NT) Government under the Menzies School of Health Research Act 1985 (Menzies Act). This Act was amended in 2004 to formalise the relationship with Charles Darwin University (CDU). Menzies is now a school within CDU’s Institute of Advanced Studies. In the spirit of respect, the Menzies School of Health Research acknowledges the people and elders of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nations, who are the Traditional Owners of the land and seas of Australia.     E-Footy RECORD 17th May 2008 Issue 7 Editorial with Marty King AN HISTORIC AND BUSY TIME FOR EVERYONE IN QUEENSLAND FOOTBALL To say it has been a busy couple of weeks at AFL Queensland would be a massive understate- ment. It’s been quite extraordinary, and quite historic. First, I want to congratulate Tom McArthur on becoming the fi rst Queenslander inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame. Chosen in 2003 as the Umpire in the AFL Queensland Team of the Century, Tom did his State proud when he joined the likes of Kevin Sheedy and Alex Jesaulenko in the AFL spotlight in Melbourne last Thursday week. He spoke with great passion and love for Queensland football, and was a wonderful ambassador for our game. Second, I want to congratulate everyone involved with Community Football last weekend. It was a massive logistical exercise and yet it went off with barely a hitch, and was wonderfully well received by people at all levels of football. It was fantastic to see Queensland AFL players Courtenay Dempsey, Luke McGuane, Ricky Petterd and Ben Hudson fl y from Melbourne to Queensland to join the festivities, and the support we received from the entire Brisbane Lions playing list was fi rst-class. Thirdly, thanks to all who supported another successful Ladies Love AFL Lunch last Friday week at Royal on the Park. A great day was had by all. Special thanks to Lions players Simon Black, Daniel Merrett and Scott Clouston, VIP guests Sam Lukis, Melissa Lambert and Margo Bowers, and Channel 10 hosts Bill McDonald and Georgie Lewis.
