Photographs are the property 0f NTFL and its contributors and may not be reproduced without the express permission of the NTFL, FOREWORD Since 1916, Territorians have been proud of their Australian Football Code, and even as far back as this date, unanswered football queries and unresolved arguments and bets have caused many a frustration. Michael Barfoot and David Lee set about correcting this situation, and thanks to their tenacity and enthusiasm, football enthusiasts now have access to not only players, games, clubs, statistics etc but also the opportunity to rekindle the memories of the outstanding achievements of our footballers. Michael, NTFL Football Manager since 1984, whilst being in an excellent position of having access to the records, nevertheless patiently compiled all these statistics in his private time. David, whose involvement in football dates back to 1952, when he was a member of St Marys first team, has made outstanding contributions via umpiring for three years, and officiating as a League Commissioner since 1976, his efforts being recognised when awarded NTFL Life Membership in 1993. Both these gentlemen are well qualified to produce this book and we owe them a huge debt. The aim of this book is to create a permanent record of whatever statistics and peoples names the authors could identify. No doubt many hard workers for the NTFL and the Code have been missed, for this a sincere apology is offered. The Northern Territory Football League has acknowledged the printing and publishing of this History Book but has specifically stated it is not a partner in the publication nor has it any editorial responsibility. As readers progress through the book I am confident many memories will be rekindled, for example: The Tortoise and Hare half-time entertainment mile race in the 1981 Grand Final between Dave Arnold (Waratahs) and Simon Moreen (Wanderers). Joe Daby winning the hurdle race at the Winnellie Greyhound Track at 5/2 on (beating Harold Anderson and George Ah Mat). Robbie Muir planting a huge sweaty kiss on the lips of the beautiful NT News photographer standing on the Gardens Oval boundary during a game. Leon 'the Fox' Gregory singing 'House of the Rising Sun' at the footy do's. The Umpires threatening strike action because the Magpie Geese had dug dangerous holes in Gardens Oval No 2, Bubba Tye and the Darwin boys preparing for their big Saturday NTFL games by spending Friday nights at the Wharf. One word of warning to readers: the information supplied is not only incomplete but due to Cyclone Tracy and the passing of club people resulting in club records being lost, some information will be incorrect, and readers are invited to contact the NTFL office with any corrections which may be included in any further reprint. The release of this book (details current to 31/3/95) fulfils this person's long held dream, and in extending the sincere thanks of all football followers in the Northern Territory to Michael and David, I commend purchase to any person who has been privileged to become involved in NT Football as a player, administrator or spectator. From 7.30 with a few games to keep the night entertaining! CATS OF 2014 Check out our website or facebook page www.neerimneerimsouthfc.vcfl.com.au or ‘Like’ on facebook: Neerim South Cats PRESIDENT’S REPORT Glenn Flowers A warm welcome to The Longwarry footy and netball club today. At half time in the seniors today I would like to welcome all of ours and Longwarry’s life members, committee and workers for afternoon tea. I would also like to welcome everyone to stay back and have a drink after the game. Last week against Poowong in atrocious conditions we weren't good enough to get over the line and a win against one of the top 3 sides on the way home is imperative to our chance of playing finals footy. The same can be said about the second's who really struggled for any cohesion last week and were totally outplayed by Poowong. The junior boys continue to impress with the U18's having great success so far. We have to pick ourselves up and be positive and really challenge the Crows today. The netballers will also be desperate for wins today to keep any hope alive of contending in the finals series. Our Cat Draw 2 weeks ago was a great success for the club and all who partaked in the evening. A big thank you goes out to the coordinator’s of this event in Bec Ladds, Nicole, Harry and Hummers who did a great job of bringing it all together and thanks also to Kim Fawcett who did a great job of selling the tickets in which only 4 were left over and Andy Smith who did the music on the night.

Brunette lives in Perth, where her daughters play for the Coastal Titans Women’s Football Club. Associate Professor Rob Hess is a sport historian with the College of Sport and Exercise Science, and the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Active Living at Victoria University. He is the former president of the Australian Society for Sports History and the current managing editor of the discipline’s foremost journal, the International Journal of the History of Sport.
