General Information -Travel, Conference Location and Other Useful Information 2006 Berlin Conference on the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change “Resource Policies: Effectiveness, Efficiency, and Equity” General Information -travel, conference location and other useful information ATTENTION – THE CONFERENCE VENUE HAS CHANGED! Conference location The 2006 Berlin Conference on the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change will take place at the Freie Universität Berlin, which is located in the Dahlem area in the south-western district of Berlin-Zehlendorf. The registration desk and the opening session on Friday morning, 17 November, will now be in the Institute for Chemistry and Biochemistry - Anorganic Chemistry, located on university campus: Institute for Chemistry and Biochemistry - Anorganic Chemistry Fabeckstr. 34 14195 Berlin The next bus stop/subway station is “Dahlem-Dorf”. Plenary sessions will take place in the same location. You will receive a detailed map on which all seminar rooms are indicated with your personal registration folder at the registration desk. How to get to the conference venue Arriving by plane: There are three airports in Berlin: Tegel (TXL), Schönefeld (SXF), and Tempelhof (THF). Most international flights arrive at Tegel or Schönefeld. Both airports can be reached by public transportation. From Tegel Airport, take the Airport Express Bus X9 to Station “Jakob-Kaiser-Platz”. Change to subway line U7 (direction “Rudow”) until stop “Fehrbelliner Platz”. There change to subway line U3 (direction “Krumme Lanke”). Exit at station “Dahlem-Dorf”. Once you arrive at “Dahlem-Dorf” station on 17 November, there will be signs guiding you from the subway/bus station to the conference location. From Schönefeld Airport, take the metropolitan train (S-Bahn, marked by green "S" signs) S 45 (direction “S+U Hermannstraße”) to Station “S+U Neukölln”. From Station “S+U Neukölln”, take line S 41 (direction “Schöneberg”) until “Heidelberger Platz”. There change to subway line U3 (direction “Krumme Lanke”) and exit at Dahlem-Dorf. Arriving by train: All trains arrive or stop at the new Hauptbahnhof (Central Station). From there, either take a taxi or use public transportation to get to your hotel. The section on hotel information below explains about how to get to each hotel from Central Station. If you travel by public transportation, take city train S 75 (direction “Spandau Bhf) to station “Berlin Zoologischer Garten”. Change to Subway Line U9 (direction “Rathaus Steglitz”). At station “Spichernstraße”, change to subway line U3 (direction “Krumme Lanke”) and get off at station “Dahlem-Dorf”. Once you arrive at Dahlem-Dorf station on 17 November, there will be signs guiding you from the subway station to the conference location. You will also find details on transportation specific to your hotel in our hotel information below. Conference schedule and format A short version of the conference programme is available for download from the programme section of this website. The registration desk will open on Friday, 17 November at 8.00 a.m. The conference begins at 9.00 a.m. and will end on Saturday, 18 November at around 7.30 p.m. We will have both plenary and panel sessions. Panels will last 90 minutes each. Panels will consist of three to four presentations, followed by a discussion. Submission of completed papers/Proceedings We encourage presenters to submit their papers until 1 November to post them on the conference website. If you do not wish to submit your paper in advance, please bring a copy to the conference. Please refer to our guidelines for submissions. Registration fee Registration fees can be paid either in advance (Euros 120/Euros 50 reduced) or at the conference desk (Euros 150/Euros 80 reduced), as indicated in the registration form. In order to assist our planning in preparing programme folders, catering etc., it would be appreciated if all participants registered by fax as early as possible. Many tourist attractions, such as Reichstag, Brandenburger Tor, Potsdamer Platz, Alexanderplatz or Kurfürstendamm can all be reached within 15 minutes. There, change to city train S42 or S 46 (direction anti-clockwise) until stop “Heidelberger Platz”. From there it is only a few minutes to walk to the hotel.

From airport Schönefeld There are two options: 1) This option requires more walKing, but is generally quicKer: Take the bus X7 towards Rudow until the final station, U-Bahnhof Rudow. From there, taKe the U7 towards Rathaus Spandau until Möckernbrücke. From there you’ll need to walk 700 meters (see map below).

Eine weitere Herausforderung, die den Kindern im Alltag begegnen kann, ist die Frage: „Wel- ches Ticket wähle ich, um möglichst günstig zu fahren?“ Um diese Frage beantworten zu kön- nen, vergleichen die Lernenden verschiedene Ticketpreise, üben sich im Lesen von Tabellen sowie Rechnen mit Geldbeträgen. Sie bestimmen die preisgünstigste Variante. Die Lernumge- bung leistet somit einen Beitrag zum übergreifenden Thema Verbraucherbildung. Hierbei steht vor allem das nachvollziehbare Begründen (prozessbezogener Kompetenzbereich Argumentie- ren) der Kaufentscheidung im Vordergrund.

    Anfahrtsbeschreibung Berlin Mit dem PKW a) Ankunft mit dem Auto aus Richtung Westen: Auf der AVUS (A115) in Richtung Berlin-Zentrum fahren, am Autobahnkreuz Funkturm halbrechts abfahren in Richtung “Hamburg/Wedding/Zentrum/Messedamm/ICC”, danach den Abzweig “Zentrum/Messedamm/ ICC” nehmen, danach auf dem Messedamm in Richtung “Anschlussstelle Messedamm Nord” und unmittel- bar anschließend an der Ausfahrt “Kaiserdamm Süd” abfahren. An der Kreuzung Messedamm/Kaiserdamm links abbiegen. Mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln b) Ankunft mit dem Zug am Bahnhof Zoologischer Garten (Fahrtzeit ca. 10 Minuten): Umsteigen in die U-Bahn der Linie U2 Richtung Ruhleben (oder Theodor-Heuss-Platz) bis zum U-Bahnhof Kaiserdamm, aussteigen in Fahrtrichtung vorne, danach den Treppenausgang rechterhand zum Kaiser- damm nehmen. Die Geschäftsstelle befi ndet sich auf der rechten Straßenseite ca. 500 m Kaiserdamm aufwärts. b) Ankunft mit dem Zug am Hauptbahnhof/Lehrter Bahnhof (Fahrtzeit ca. 20 Minuten): Mit den S-Bahnlinien S5, S7, S75 oder S9 bis Bahnhof Zoologischer Garten, danach siehe a). d) Ankunft mit dem Flugzeug am Flughafen Tegel (Fahrtzeit ca. 20 Minuten): Mit den Buslinien X9 oder 109 bis zur Haltestelle U-Bahnhof Jakob-Kaiserplatz, von dort mit U-Bahnlinie U7 in Richtung Rudow bis U-Bahnhof Bismarckstraße, von dort aus mit der U-Bahnlinie U2 Richtung Ruhleben (oder Theodor-Heuss-Platz) bis zum U-Bahnhof Kaiserdamm. Von dort aus zur Geschäftsstelle wie unter b). e) Ankunft mit dem Flugzeug am Flughafen Schönefeld (Fahrtzeit: 55 bis 70 Minuten): e1) Mit der S-Bahnlinie S47 ohne Halt bis S-Bahnhof Messe Nord/ICC, von dort aus ca. 5 Minuten zu Fuß zur Geschätsstelle (siehe Plan).
