Conference location The 2006 Berlin Conference on the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change will take place at the Freie Universität Berlin, which is located in the Dahlem area in the south-western district of Berlin-Zehlendorf. The registration desk and the opening session on Friday morning, 17 November, will now be in the Institute for Chemistry and Biochemistry - Anorganic Chemistry, located on university campus: Institute for Chemistry and Biochemistry - Anorganic Chemistry Fabeckstr. 34 14195 Berlin The next bus stop/subway station is “Dahlem-Dorf”. Plenary sessions will take place in the same location. You will receive a detailed map on which all seminar rooms are indicated with your personal registration folder at the registration desk. How to get to the conference venue Arriving by plane: There are three airports in Berlin: Tegel (TXL), Schönefeld (SXF), and Tempelhof (THF). Most international flights arrive at Tegel or Schönefeld. Both airports can be reached by public transportation. From Tegel Airport, take the Airport Express Bus X9 to Station “Jakob-Kaiser-Platz”. Change to subway line U7 (direction “Rudow”) until stop “Fehrbelliner Platz”. There change to subway line U3 (direction “Krumme Lanke”). Exit at station “Dahlem-Dorf”. Once you arrive at “Dahlem-Dorf” station on 17 November, there will be signs guiding you from the subway/bus station to the conference location. From Schönefeld Airport, take the metropolitan train (S-Bahn, marked by green "S" signs) S 45 (direction “S+U Hermannstraße”) to Station “S+U Neukölln”. From Station “S+U Neukölln”, take line S 41 (direction “Schöneberg”) until “Heidelberger Platz”. There change to subway line U3 (direction “Krumme Lanke”) and exit at Dahlem-Dorf. Arriving by train: All trains arrive or stop at the new Hauptbahnhof (Central Station). From there, either take a taxi or use public transportation to get to your hotel. The section on hotel information below explains about how to get to each hotel from Central Station. If you travel by public transportation, take city train S 75 (direction “Spandau Bhf) to station “Berlin Zoologischer Garten”. Change to Subway Line U9 (direction “Rathaus Steglitz”). At station “Spichernstraße”, change to subway line U3 (direction “Krumme Lanke”) and get off at station “Dahlem-Dorf”. Once you arrive at Dahlem-Dorf station on 17 November, there will be signs guiding you from the subway station to the conference location. You will also find details on transportation specific to your hotel in our hotel information below. Conference schedule and format A short version of the conference programme is available for download from the programme section of this website. The registration desk will open on Friday, 17 November at 8.00 a.m. The conference begins at 9.00 a.m. and will end on Saturday, 18 November at around 7.30 p.m. We will have both plenary and panel sessions. Panels will last 90 minutes each. Panels will consist of three to four presentations, followed by a discussion. Submission of completed papers/Proceedings We encourage presenters to submit their papers until 1 November to post them on the conference website. If you do not wish to submit your paper in advance, please bring a copy to the conference. Please refer to our guidelines for submissions. Registration fee Registration fees can be paid either in advance (Euros 120/Euros 50 reduced) or at the conference desk (Euros 150/Euros 80 reduced), as indicated in the registration form. In order to assist our planning in preparing programme folders, catering etc., it would be appreciated if all participants registered by fax as early as possible. Temperatures are rather low in November, quite often as low as between 3°C and 7°C (between 37°F and 44°F). Snowfall in mid November is quite unlikely. Do you need more information? There, change to city train S42 or S 46 (direction anti-clockwise) until stop “Heidelberger Platz”. From there it is only a few minutes to walk to the hotel.
