July - August 2010 www.superbirdclub.com email: [email protected] Pete Hamilton Superbird Restoration Petty’s Garage in Level Cross North Carolina has unveiled their restoration of Pete Hamilton’s 1970 Daytona 500 winning Superbird race car. The car is owned by collector Todd Werner, who also owns a Petty 1971 Road Runner among quite a few other significant cars. At left in the group photo, you can see The King behind the car. Left of him is Dale Inman, and at the windshield pillar is Pete Hamilton crew chief, Richie Barsz. I am told that Richie was instrumental in visually identifying the car. Owner Todd Werner is second from left. There is not a lot of information about the history of the car that has been released publicly at this time. I am told that after 1970, the car was reportedly sold to privateer Doc Faustina , who entered it as a 1970 Road Runner in select Grand National races, s during 1971 and 1972. In later years, it was rebodied as a newer Charger and continued to race into the mid 1970’s. I hope to bring you more information about the car soon. At middle left, Richard is checking out the Maurice Petty built Hemi. You can see the car is still being lettered. Immediately after these photos were taken, the car was loaded up and headed for the Mopar Nationals in Columbus where it was on display in the Manufacturers Midway. Petty’s Garage is a specialty restoration facility operating from the former Petty Enterprises shops. 2010 Events Calendar page 2 September 9th-12th St Louis MO - Monster Mopar Weekend & Aero Car Display This event is coming up next month. -

However, I have heard excuses and praises for each driver, with the slant going towards the preferred driver of the person sharing their racing expertise. "Petty was the greatest." "No, Petty had no competition." Petty is debatably NASCAR's best driver. He did race in a time where the reliability of the cars was nowhere near what they are today. ADAM STEVENS: Crew Chief Biography
ADAM STEVENS: Crew Chief Biography Birthdate: 7/22/78 Hometown: Portsmouth, Ohio Residence: Huntersville, North Carolina Marital Status: Married to Aubrey Children: Carter and Ryan In just five seasons as a full-time NASCAR Cup Series crew chief, Adam Stevens has certainly etched his name into the record books as one-half of the most formidable driver-and-crew chief combinations the sport has ever seen. The 41-year-old native of Portsmouth, Ohio, first joined forces with Kyle Busch and the No. 18 M&M’S/Interstate Batteries Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) at the start of the 2015 Cup Series season and, in the relatively short time since, has led all competitors with two series championships and 27 victories in 169 races together through the 2019 campaign. Stevens and Busch clinched their second Cup Series title together at the most reason Championship 4 season finale last November at Homestead-Miami Speedway, where Busch led a race-high 120 laps and crossed the finish line a comfortable 4.5 seconds ahead of his JGR teammate Martin Truex Jr. Coupled with their 2015 championship together, Stevens became just the 15th crew chief in Cup Series history to win multiple championships, tying him with a virtual who’s who of history-making crew chiefs including Greg Zipadelli, Jeff Hammond, Andy Petree, Tim Brewer and Smokey Yunick with two titles apiece. Stevens’ and Busch’s 27 wins together is the most during the last five Cup Series seasons, the next-closest duo being driver Kevin Harvick and crew chief Rodney Childers, who won 21 races in that time and 26 wins together since their first and only championship season in 2014. -
