E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Inland epigean freshwater amphipods of Romania are diverse and abundant for this region has a favourable geographical position between the Balkans and the Black Sea. Excluding Ponto-Caspian species originating in brackish waters and freshwater subterranean taxa, there are 11 formally recognized epigean freshwater species recorded from this country. They belong to 3 genera, each representing a different family: Gammarus (Gammaridae, 8 species or species complexes), Niphargus (Niphargidae, 2 epigean species) and Synurella (Crangonyctidae, one species). Their large-scale distribution patterns nevertheless remain obscure due to insufficient data, consequently limiting biogeographical interpretations. We provide extensive new data with high resolution distribution maps, thus improving the knowledge of the ranges of these taxa.

The sampling area covered two potential geographical barriers Distribution (the Kuril Island archipelago and the Kuril-Kamchatka Trench), as well as three depth zones (bathyal, abyssal, Northwest Pacific hadal). We found significant differences in relative species abundance between abyssal and hadal depths.

Nineteen species as well as the subfamily Epitraninae and the genera Bucekia Steffan, Epitranus Walker, Proconura Dodd, and Tanycoryphus Cameron, are newly recorded from Egypt. A single species previously placed in the genus Hockeria is transferred to Euchalcis Dufour as E. rufula (Nikol’skaya, 1960) comb. nov. Key words: Parasitic wasps, Chalcidinae, Dirhininae, Epitraninae, Haltichellinae, new records, new combination Introduction The Chalcididae (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea) is a medium-sized family represented by more than 1500 described species in 93 genera (Aguiar et al. 2013; Noyes 2017; Abul-Sood et al. 2018). A large number of described species are classified in the genus Brachymeria Westwood (about 21%), followed by Conura Spinola (20.3%) (Noyes 2017).

The tour began in the high Andes, where snow-capped cones feature and condors roam, but made its way all the way down to the steamy jungles of the Amazon, seemingly covering everything in between too. This tour started up at 2800m/9185ft. in Ecuador’s lofty capital, Quito, before creeping higher still into the high Andes and the paramo grasslands of Antisana. After scooping up Andean Condor, Black-faced Ibis, and a gorgeous male Ecuadorian Hillstar; the tour set off for the highest elevation of the tour, above Papallacta Pass, at a breathless 4200m/13,800ft. With the unpredictable weather there on our side for once we set about finding not only the area’s star bird, Rufous-bellied Seedsnipe, but were also gifted extraordinary views of Andean Snipe there too, an amazing, and popular, bonus bird. The next stop, a quaint Andean lodge, Guango, perched beside a rushing mountain river, was every bit as good as billed with Gray-breasted Mountain-Toucan, along with the usual haul of stunning hummingbirds including the comical Sword-billed Hummingbird among them.

A number of spider species were collected in 2011 and 2012 in various microhabitats in and around the village Letea (the Danube Delta, Romania) and on the Bulgarian Dobruja Black Sea coast. The results are the start of a proposed longer survey of the spider fauna in the area. The genus Spermophora Hentz, 1841 (with the species senoculata), Xysticus laetus Thorell, 1875 and Trochosa hispanica Simon, 1870 are mentioned in the Romanian fauna for the first time. Floronia bucculenta (Clerck, 1757) is at the first record for the Bulgarian fauna. Diagnostic drawings and photographs are presented. Résumé. En 2011 et 2012, on recueille des espèces d’araignées dans des microhabitats différents autour du village de Letea (le delta du Danube) et le long de la côte de la Mer Noire dans la Dobroudja bulgare. Les résultats sont le début d’une enquête proposée de la faune d’araignée dans la région. Le genre Spermophora Hentz, 1841 (avec l’espèce senoculata), Xysticus laetus Thorell, 1875 et Trochosa hispanica Simon, 1870 sont mentionnés pour la première fois dans la faune de Roumanie. Floronia bucculenta (Clerck, 1757) est au premier enregistrement pour la faune bulgare. Aussi on présente les dessins de diagnose et des photographies. Whilst recent studies have reported the presence of Epitraninae in countries of the Middle East, there are no published records from the European continent. A female specimen belonging to the Epitranus hamoni species complex was collected in Salamis island, Attica, Greece, and deposited at the Museum of Zoology (Athens). Bechtold* Abstract Lectotypes for twelve of Mayr's cynipid gall wasp species (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae: Cynipinae) are desi- gnated. From twenty cynipid gall wasp species, described by Mayr, seven have already been synonymized, and thirteen species are still valid. Andricus insana (WESTWOOD, 1837) syn.n. is a new synonym of Andricus quercustozae (Bosc, 1792). Key words: Cynipidae, gall wasps, Hymenoptera, lectotype designation, Gustav Mayr, new synonymy, taxonomy. Zusammenfassung Lectotypen für zwölf der von Mayr beschriebenen Gallwespenarten (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae: Cynipinae) werden designiert. Mayr hat zwanzig Gallwespenarten beschrieben, davon sind sieben bereits synonymi- siert worden, dreizehn Arten sind noch gültig. Introduction Gustav Mayr, a famous Austrian entomologist, described eleven genera of gall inducing Cynipidae and twenty species from twelve genera (Hymenoptera: Cynipoidea). Seven of them have already been synonymized, while thirteen species are still valid. However, he never designated types for his newly described species. All the specimens are syn- or cotypes and usually these specimens were marked with "Type" or even not so.

The last Romanian checklist was published in 1978 and contained only 76 species. The present work lists all species mentioned in publications until 2006. Up to now, altogether 103 valid species were recorded in the Romanian fauna (102 outdoor species), besides these there are eleven species of uncertain occurrence in Romania and two names which cannot be assigned to existing valid species. The comparison of Romanian and other Central and Eastern Euro- pean myrmecofaunas reveals that the Romanian fauna is insufficiently known and that a considerable number of spe- cies (mostly parasitic and Mediterranean) remains to be detected.
