Mapping the radical right populism and their discourses in public spheres: the case of Romania and Hungary RESEARCH PLAN Aim of the project Despite the growing body of literature which explains the emergence and the electoral contours of radical right populism in Central and Eastern Europe (e.g. Minkenberg 2002, Hanley et al. 2008, Mudde 2005, Kovács 2013, Auers–Kasekamp 2013) we have sporadic knowledge about the radical right mass communication channels and media discourses. Cross-country researches with comparative focus are particularly needed to gain more insight into the contemporary nature of the radical right populism. The proposed project fills this gap by conducting a cross-case analysis focusing on Romania and Hungary. The aim is twofold. First, we envisage an analysis of the characteristics of media discourses of the radical right. Second, we aim to identify the positions of the radical right populist media products within the network structure of the general media sphere. Our purpose is to shed lights on one of the major public issues in our region: the communicative construction of radical right populism and its location in the public spheres. Case selection: why Romania and Hungary? Romania and Hungary are excellent comparative cases as countries with different electoral patterns concerning the radical right populism. In Romania, the radical right political parties gained significant electoral success soon after the collapse of the communist regime and by 2000 the Greater Romania Party (Partidul România Mare, PRM) became the largest opposition force. Contrary to the wider European trend, popular support for the PRM has declined so far and no other radical right-wing group has managed to replicate its electoral performance. -

The last Romanian checklist was published in 1978 and contained only 76 species. The present work lists all species mentioned in publications until 2006. Up to now, altogether 103 valid species were recorded in the Romanian fauna (102 outdoor species), besides these there are eleven species of uncertain occurrence in Romania and two names which cannot be assigned to existing valid species. The comparison of Romanian and other Central and Eastern Euro- pean myrmecofaunas reveals that the Romanian fauna is insufficiently known and that a considerable number of spe- cies (mostly parasitic and Mediterranean) remains to be detected. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Research of the Hungarian Niphargus species is a rather neglected field. This is due to the growing distance between the level of knowledge about Hungarian species and the elaboration determined by the international publications, which had caused a hardly negotiable inconvenience in the judgment of the state of the Hungarian species. The clarification of spe- cies in questionable positions could be the starting point of further inland research. During our work, the species with Hun- garian distributions were assigned based on the literature’s data, and were evaluated with morphological examinations of the specimens collected by us from their type localities and other habitats. Considering the validity of the species we cre- ated three categories. Eight of the 20 species proved to be invalid or non-inland species, three remain in an uncertain tax- onomic state, while nine are classifiable into the ’valid Hungarian species’ category. -

The first comprehensive study was published by the Hungarian homopterologist Horvath (1897). The great majority of the cicada species reported by him are from Transylvania and Banat County. Present State of Sturgeon Stocks in the Lower Danube River, Romania
PRESENT STATE OF STURGEON STOCKS IN THE LOWER DANUBE RIVER, ROMANIA Marian Paraschiv1, Radu Suciu1, Marieta Suciu1 Key words: Danube, sturgeon, monitoring, conservation, stocking Introduction Since always sturgeon fisheries in the lower Danube River and in the N-W Black Sea were considered extremly important for the countries of the region, involving important fishermen communities (Ambroz, 1960; Antipa, 1909, Bacalbasa-Dobrovici, 1999; Hensel & Holcik, 1997; Leonte, 1965; Reinartz, 2002, Suciu, 2002; Vassilev & Pehlivanov, 2003). After 1990, conservation and fisheries scientists in the region have been aware of threatened status of sturgeons (Banarescu, 1994; Bacalbasa-Dobrovici, 1991, 1997; Navodaru, 1999, Staras, 2000) and Ukraine even listed beluga sturgeons in their Red Data Book (Shcherbak, 1994). Since the listing in year 1998 of all species of Acipenseriformes in Appendix I & II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) (Wijnsteckers, 2003) conservation and fisheries of these species are undergoing a steadily developing process of joint regional management. Two regional meetings on conservation and sustainable management of sturgeons under CITES regulations were organised in 2001 (Sofia, Bulgaria) (Anon. 2001) and 2003 (Tulcea, Romania) (Anon. 2003). In order to enable communication among CITES and fisheries authorities of the region an e- mail dialogue working group, the Black Sea Sturgeon Management Action Group (BSSMAG) was established in October 2001, during the Sofia Meeting. This organism was the keystone of most of the progress achieved during the last 5 years, leading to the adoption of a Regional Strategy for the Conservation and Sustainable Management of Sturgeon Populations of the N- W Black Sea and Lower Danube River in accordance with CITES (Anon. -

Niphargus deelemanae grex ssp. n. is described and figured from Šarbanovac in E Serbia. The species Niphargus jurinaci S. Karaman 1950, scantily described and figured from Crni Lug near Ogulin in Croatia, is redescribed and figured more in detail, based on the type material. The taxonomical position and relations of these two taxa within the genus Niphargus are discussed. Introduction The subterranean genus Niphargus Schiödte, 1849 (Amphipoda: Gammaridea: Niphargidae) is widely distributed through Europe and the Near East with over 300 known species and subspecies presented in various types of subterranean waters (caves, springs, subterranean torrents, deep lakes, etc.). The oldest known fossil members of the genus Niphargus are from the Tertiary Period (Eocene), and settled in the freshwaters at various times (G. KARAMAN, 1984). 208 G.S. KARAMAN Recently a new fossil, an amphipod from the Triassic Period, was described in Nevada, USA, Rosagammarus minichiellus (MCMENAMIN et al., 2013) altering our knowledge of fossil Amphipoda to the Mesozoic Period.
