  • BAB I PENDAHULUAN A. Dasar Pemikiran Bangsa Indonesia Sejak

Creole drum An Anthology of Creole Literature in Surinam Jan Voorhoeve en Ursy M. Lichtveld bron Jan Voorhoeve en Ursy M. Lichtveld, Creole drum. An Anthology of Creole Literature in Surinam. Yale University Press, Londen 1975 Zie voor verantwoording: http://www.dbnl.org/tekst/voor007creo01_01/colofon.htm © 2006 dbnl / erven Jan Voorhoeve & erven Ursy M. Lichtveld vii Preface Surinam Creole (called Negro-English, Taki-Taki, and Nengre or more recently also Sranan and Sranan tongo) has had a remarkable history. It is a young language, which did not exist before 1651. It served as a contact language between slaves and masters and also between slaves from different African backgrounds and became within a short time the mother tongue of the Surinam slaves. After emancipation in 1863 it remained the mother tongue of lower-class Creoles (people of slave ancestry), but it served also as a contact language or lingua franca between Creoles and Asian immigrants. It gradually became a despised language, an obvious mark of low social status and lack of proper schooling. After 1946, on the eve of independence, it became more respected (and respectable) within a very short time, owing to the great achievements of Creole poets: Cinderella kissed by the prince. In this anthology we wish to give a picture of the rise and glory of the former slave language. The introduction sketches the history of Surinam Creole in its broad outlines, starting from the first published text in 1718. The texts are presented in nine chronologically ordered chapters starting from the oral literature, which is strongly reminiscent of the times of slavery, and ending with modern poetry and prose.

  • The Canterbury Association
The Canterbury Association (1848-1852): A Study of Its Members’ Connections By the Reverend Michael Blain Note: This is a revised edition prepared during 2019, of material included in the book published in 2000 by the archives committee of the Anglican diocese of Christchurch to mark the 150th anniversary of the Canterbury settlement. In 1850 the first Canterbury Association ships sailed into the new settlement of Lyttelton, New Zealand. From that fulcrum year I have examined the lives of the eighty-four members of the Canterbury Association. Backwards into their origins, and forwards in their subsequent careers. I looked for connections. The story of the Association’s plans and the settlement of colonial Canterbury has been told often enough. (For instance, see A History of Canterbury volume 1, pp135-233, edited James Hight and CR Straubel.) Names and titles of many of these men still feature in the Canterbury landscape as mountains, lakes, and rivers. But who were the people? What brought these eighty-four together between the initial meeting on 27 March 1848 and the close of their operations in September 1852? What were the connections between them? In November 1847 Edward Gibbon Wakefield had convinced an idealistic young Irishman John Robert Godley that in partnership they could put together the best of all emigration plans. Wakefield’s experience, and Godley’s contacts brought together an association to promote a special colony in New Zealand, an English society free of industrial slums and revolutionary spirit, an ideal English society sustained by an ideal church of England. Each member of these eighty-four members has his biographical entry.

  • Investigation of Metallic Media in First Fleet Natural History Watercolours
Investigation of metallic media in First Fleet natural history watercolours Kate Hughes The 8th AICCM Book, Paper and Photographic Symposium Art Gallery of New South Wales 7-9 May 2014 ABSTRACT The use of metallic media had been observed in the State Library of New South Wales First Fleet era natural history watercolour collections. Ten drawings within SLNSW’s First Fleet collection were identified as containing metallic media. A further ten drawings possibly containing metallic media were identified in other cultural institutions collections. Portable X- ray fluorescence was used to identify the metallic media in drawings in the SLNSW’s and the National Library of Australia’s collections. Metallic areas were identifies as gold, brass or silver. Microscopic examination of the application methods used revealed gold and brass leaf were the most common materials and were applied in a layered technique. Watercolour was applied to the gold and brass leaf to create iridescent effects. This technique was documented in artist manuals of the time. The limited availability of artist materials in First Fleet era Australia would have dictated artists’ selection of metallic media. Keywords: First Fleet, Sydney Bird Painter, Gilding, Watercolour, Natural History, Gold INTRODUCTION The State Library of New South Wales holds a premier collection of natural history watercolours from the First Fleet era. The recent acquisition of the TAL & Dai-ichi Life Derby Collection of Natural History Watercolours in 2011 has brought these collections into focus and has provided a broader context for their investigation, particularly the use of metallic media. Ten watercolours were identified in the SLNSW’s collections and a possible ten more in other cultural institutions related collections.

  • Healing Service Thursday 27 August, 2020
Healing Service Thursday 27 August, 2020 Sit somewhere comfortable and let yourself come into the presence of God, knowing that others, some we know and some we don’t, are doing the same in their homes, on their balconies, in their gardens or their quiet God spot. If you would like to, look at the Bible readings from today’s service: Exodus 3: 1-18 Psalm 63 Matthew 16: 13-17 Let’s begin with a prayer: God who sent us the Word, made into flesh, the One who was himself wounded by words, and wounded others with his own well-chosen barbs, today we pray for the words that will fill the day. May we receive words of hope to bolster us, words of peace to connects us, words of truth to anchor us in reality. May the words that we speak to others be full of compassion, inspiration, and truth. And may we find rest from all other words in the presence of your Word with Us. Amen. Mary Austin is the Pastor of Gaithersburg Presbyterian Church, near Washington, DC. RevGals Blogspot We come mindful of the many people who are struggling today. Struggling with loneliness, with fear and anxiety, grieving loss; the loss of a loved one, loss of time with family, loss of community, loss of security. So many hearts in need of the healing touch of God. We come knowing that we are in need of healing, that we are struggling with those same things, knowing that we need to feel the healing touch of God today.

  • BUDAYA BAHARI DAM TRADISI NELAYAN DI INDONESIA Abstract
Sabda, Volume // Nomor ?/ September 2004; 22-35 ISSN 1410-7910 BUDAYA BAHARI DAM TRADISI NELAYAN DI INDONESIA Yunandar Fakuftas Peternakan Universitas Lambung Mangkurat Banjarmasin Abstract There are at least five phenomena which mark the complexity of maritime culture and fisherman tradition in Indonesia; social group of the maritime society, the development of economic sectors concerning sea products, social hierarchy in the daily maritime activities, the relationship between the elements of maritime culture and life sectors of the society, and the continuation and alteration of maritime culture's elements. In order to acquire a deep study on the complexity of maritime culture, there are several concepts used in this paper: Koentjaraningrat's concept of "three forms of culture", Sanjek's concept of "the dynamic culture and creation", and Vadya's concept of "contextual progressive explanatory method". The forms of maritime culture include the system of culture, belief, institution, and production technology. Meanwhile, the dynamics of maritime culture and fisherman tradition is determined not only by the internal factors but also the external forces, such as, innovation on technology, government policy, university interventions, nongovernmental organizations, donor institution, and regional, national, and even global market. Apparently, those external forces have brought negative impacts on the life of maritime society, marked by the decrease of economic prosperity, natural resources and sea environment. The negative impacts can be avoided by applying community- based management in the development of maritime culture. Key Words: maritime culture, fisherman tradition, community-based management. 1. • Slide #1 Drawing Australia, from Hughes to Eyre: Recording and the Question of Accuracy
Slide #1 Drawing Australia, from Hughes to Eyre: recording and the question of accuracy INTRODUCTION During the Tahiti - New Zealand leg of Cooks first expedition, Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander are sitting in a shared cabin writing their journals and discussing the detritus they had fished from the ocean that day , standing back from the conversation for a few moments Banks wrote “I wish that our friends in England could by the assistance of some magical spying glass take a peep at our situation “ In saying this Banks didn’t only anticipate live broadcast and satellite TV but perhaps more important acknowledged the limitations of pen and ink and his “ journalizing “ as he called it, to reliably capture the volume of significant events that surrounded him each day. Beyond volume Bank’s must have also had concerns over his ability to adequately describe his discoveries. Would his journal be read as an embellishment of the fact, possibly even fiction? Both questions I suspect must have concerned him and another explorer of his time. With these thoughts in mind it seems reasonable to ( in the first instance at least) assume that the drawings and notebooks of those involved in discovery are usually made with the best intentions. JOHN WEBBER: ARTIST COOK’S 3rd EXPEDITION To set the scene I have chosen four drawings by the artist John Webber , each is concerned in one way or another with the exotic, exploration, travel and the business of trying to make accurate records. John Webber RA the son of a Swiss sculptor [i]was born in London in 1752 .
