Criteria Weighted Score Total Achievement Score 50% (from a total of 100) Language Level 50% (from a total of 100) F- Important Issues About the Application Process 1- Within the scope of existing agreement quotas, the total number of students to be selected for the Farabi Exchange Program is estimated according to the total achievement score and decisions taken by the ADÜ Farabi Selection Committee. 2- Until the application results are announced by the Council of Higher Education, all students will be considered as ‘candidate students’. 3- Students can carry out the mobility within the framework of the existing institutional agreements of ADÜ. Applicants should check these agreements on the web site of International Office (UİK) – ADÜ Farabi at this link: http://www.idari.adu.edu.tr/farabi/default.asp?idx=323337. Students, when choosing their university preferences, must choose from institutions which have a bilateral agreement concerning their unit or department. Students should check the suitability of courses, the language of education and the required language levels and certificates of the relevant Higher Education Institutions for the semester(s) they wish to participate in and choose accordingly before the end of the application period. Responsibility for incorrect preferences lies with the student. 4- In the event of two students of the same study level from the same department having the same evaluation criteria and there is insufficient quota for both students, priority will be given to the student in the higher year. If both students are in the same year, priority will be given to the younger student. 5- Students who are registered at Adnan Menderes University as Turkey Scholarship (YTB) students can apply for the 'Farabi Exchange Program' and will be allowed to participate into the program . However, these students must sign a declaration that they agree to participate into the Farabi Exchange Program bearing in their minds that their YTB scholarship will be terminated. 6- Within the scope of the Farabi Exchange Program, if the student applications exceed the quota limit, students are selected by considering the range of Higher Education GPA and departmental quota. 7- Students continue to take other grants within the term of their study. 3 8- Students continue to pay the tuition fee they have to pay for Adnan Menderes University. 9- Students can have preferences for fall semester or fall and spring semester together. They can not have any preferences for spring semester. 10- Students can have two preferences. They need to prepare a set of documents for each preference. The students who will have one preference also need to prepare a set of documents. 11- Since some universities receive only online applications, a copy of the document which shows that the application has been completed online from the page of related universities should be included among the application documents. 12- Students working in any public institution or organisation or in a salaried position in a private institution can not receive any scholarship within the scope of the Farabi Exchange Program, except for students applying for an internship. 13- Students staying in the Higher Education Dorm Institution can be transfered to the dormitories in the universities which they benefit from the exchange. 14- Please visit the UİK – ADÜ Farabi web site for detailed information about the program G- Student Applications Calendar PROGRAM DATE - TIME PLACE Student Application Dates 19/02/2018-09/03/2018 Farabi Exchange Office 2018-2019 Farabi Exchange Program Orientation 19-21/02/2018 Atatürk Kongre Merkezi Days Farabi Written Foreign Language Examination 16/03/2018 16:00 ADÜ School of Foreign Languages http://www.idari.adu.edu.tr/farabi/ Announcement of Farabi Written Foreign Language 19/03/2018 Examination Results Announcement of Approved Applications 22/03/2018 http://www.idari.adu.edu.tr/farabi/ Submission of the Applications to the Host 04/04/2018 Institutions Announcement of the Results 25 /04/2018 4 H-Scholarships 1- In the event of insufficient student exchange funds being allocated to ADÜ, and provided there are sufficient quotas within the Farabi Exchange Program protocols, students can participate in the Farabi Exchange Program with a private scholarship or carry out a self-funded or other financially funded exchange on request. • A Research on the Cognitive Structure of Middle School Students Regarding Concepts of Nature and Environment
US-China Education Review B, March 2017, Vol. 7, No. 3, 115-125 doi: 10.17265/2161-6248/2017.03.001 D DAVID PUBLISHING A Research on the Cognitive Structure of Middle School Students Regarding Concepts of Nature and Environment Mustafa Kahyaoğlu, Muzaffer Çatak Siirt University, Siirt, Turkey The purpose of this study is to reveal the cognitive structure of middle school students regarding concepts of nature and environment. In this study, phenomenological pattern, a form of qualitative research was used. The study group comprised 137 middle school students, who were studying in schools located in Siirt City in Turkey that are part of the provincial directorate of national education during the Fall Semester of the 2015-2016 academic year. In this study, the Word Association Test was used as the data collection tool. In this Word Association Test, middle school students were given two key concepts—nature and environment. They were asked to write down words that came to mind and that they associated with these concepts, and to use them to make a sentence in a given time. In the analysis of the data obtained, a frequency table was used, composed of the responses that related to the key concepts of nature and environment. Additionally, in accordance with data received, a concept network was formed to establish the students’ cognitive structure related to concepts of nature and environment. According to the study findings, middle school students were not able to sufficiently relate to concepts of nature and environment in their cognitive structures and their minds showed some disconnections.

  • Higher Education Policies and Overeducation in Turkey Nader Habibi, Economics Department, Brandeis University
Higher Education Policies and Overeducation in Turkey Nader Habibi, Economics Department, Brandeis University Working Paper Series 2016 | 104 Higher Education Policies and Overeducation in Turkey1 Nader Habibi2 March 2015 Introduction: On October 15, 2015 the President of Istanbul University, Professor Mahmut Ak, shocked the attendants in the annual ceremony for the start of the 2015-16 academic year by announcing that student enrollments for current academic year have been reduced1. This news came as a surprise to the entire academic community in Turkey. He further explained that this decision was motivated by the poor job market conditions for university graduates. The difficult labor market for university graduates is not an unnoticed issue in itself but the unemployment rate for university graduates has recently reached unprecedented levels that Turkey has never experienced before. Turkey is one of the few developed countries in which unemployment rate for workers with university degrees is higher than less educated workers. The 2015 employment statistics for Turkey confirms Professor Ak’s concern. The July 2015 statistics that were released in October show that university graduates accounted for 24% of the unemployed workers in July 2015 while the same ratio in April 2014 was only 18%2. Concern about this issue was also acknowledged by the founder and chairman of the board of Trustees of Gedik University, Hulya Gedik, in October 2015: “There are more than 200 universities in operation. … However, graduation doesn't guarantee getting a job. There are one million jobless university graduates [in Turkey]”3. This bad employment news comes at a time when a record large cohort of Turkish university students are expected to enter the labor market in the next two years.
