Church of St. Patrick 400 Main Street Huntington, New York(631)-385-3311 www.stpathuntington.org FROM OUR PASTOR, MSGR CAMP

Dear Parishioners,

Today begins the 5th Sunday of and begins what has been traditionally called . On Saturday morning all of the statues and crucifixes were covered in veils of roman purple. The veiling of the images is a symbol of the deep withdrawal the Church experiences as we contemplate the Passion of the Lord. The Stations of the Cross are the only things left uncovered as we are invited to walk with the Lord on His journey that leads to His crucifixion and death. In that journey we are invited to offer our own sufferings to him. In doing so we can see that many of the emotions that we feel and have experienced in our life are the same as the Lord experienced on that .

We are called to be followers of Christ and be obedient to Him and act upon His Word. When we serve Him we also serve the Father. Christ was obedient to the Father and was submissive to Him. This is servanthood not slavery. It is voluntary, when we submit to the will of the Father. The Lord’s entire life was spent in relation to fulfilling the Father’s will. His human and Divine will working being oriented towards the Father’s Will. It is in submitting our hearts and minds to the Father that we imitate Jesus. It is not about checking off boxes or just obeying rules, our Catholic faith life is much richer, we are called to imitate and submit to the Father through the Son, inspired through the Holy Spirit.

Next week is Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord. This year we will be distributing blessed palm branches. The Passion Gospel Reading will be in the bulletin or you may use your cell phone device to upload it. Please do not leave your bulletin in the pews, take it home with you. If needed, we will offer overflow Masses available at the same time in the Lower Church. Both the Upper and Lower Churches will be set for 50% capacity. Please follow the guidance of the ushers for seating. As we followed for Christmas, you will be guided and directed to your seat. Remember to leave one missal box length between yourself and the next family, group, cohort, etc. We are maintaining the usage of every other pew option for social distance reasons. Please wear your mask and bring your own hand sanitizer. On both Palm Sunday and Sunday we are adding a 1:00 pm Mass option. All Masses on Easter Sunday are scheduled for both the Upper and Lower church. Please see the bulletin for all scheduled Liturgies.

Our Parish 50/50 is still underway. If you have not yet purchased your tickets, please do so ASAP. Tickets can be purchased at the Rectory Office .The Spring sacramental celebrations have been scheduled. Please check the Parish announcements for when the Church will be closed to the public. Confirmation and First Communion are ticketed events and are only open to those family members who have a ticket. All ceremonies and Masses will be lived streamed and can be seen on our parish website and YouTube channel.

Thank you for your continued support of the Parish as we continue to navigate through these unprecedented times. Our faith and trust in God will give us the strength we need.

God Bless and have a good week,

Msgr. Camp
