Chastnyk, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Kharkiv State Academy of Culture, Kharkiv [email protected] http://orcid.org/0000-0003-2147-4945 REGIONAL DIALECTS IN THE CULTURAL LIFE OF GERMANY This paper contains an overview of online and printed sources dealing with the phenomenon of The Renaissance of Dialect in Germany, particularly with the growing use of dialect in the cultural life of the country. Special attention is paid to the problem of motivation for choosing dialect in theatre acting and rock singing. As a rule, dialect is used to mark the performer’s regional identity and has symbolic value. However, aspiration for individual self-determination as well as commercial motives are also present in this process. Another issue covered in the article concerns a possible danger of “cultural separatism” caused by dialect revitalization. The overview shows that introducing modern forms into dialect music increases the popularity of local vernacular with German youth. However, the area of functioning of dialects will be, in all probability, confined to the use in everyday, private life. Er selbst stellte in po1nt1erter Scharfe fest: "Tot s1nd unsere Lieder/unsere alten Lieder/ Lehrer naben s1e zerblssen/Kurzoehoste sie verklampft/Braune Horden 1 totgescnr 1en ISt 1ef e l 1 n den Dreck gestampft" ). In den ersten Liederbuchern wurde nach dem Kriege zwar teilweise noch auf das Erbe der Fahrten! Jeder zurückgegriffen, doch ergab sich seit den 50er Jahren unter dem Einfluß des Europagedankens mehr und mehr e1ne Offnung zu dem europa1schen Lied hin, nachdem das Bemühen, neue Jugendlieder zu schaffen, erfolglos war.     Hubert von Goisern - www.hubertvongoisern.com Hubert von Goisern was born in 1952 in Bad Goisern. Spent seven years in South Africa, Canada and Asia. Returned to Austria in 1983, studied at the Musikhochschule in Vienna. Founded the "Alpinkatzen" (Alpine Cats) in 1987 and began to deconstruct alpine folk music. Musical breakthrough in 1992. HvG deemed to be the founder of so-called "alpine rock" and best- known representative of "new folk music". Numerous musical projects since this time between the poles of world music and folk music, tradition and the modern. His tours and musical journeys have led him across Europe, the USA, the Arab world, to Tibet and Africa. In addition he has designed fashion, acted in films, composed film music (including the soundtrack for Joseph Vilsmaier's "Schlafes Bruder" (Brother of Sleep)) and is a man who speaks his mind on political, social and ecological issues. 2007-2009 he toured on the Danube from Linz to the Black Sea and then along the Rhine to the North Sea with a stage ship. More than 100 musicians took part in the tour. The logbook of the journey was published under the title "Stromlinien" (Streamlines). Autumn 2011 Hubert von Goisern topped the charts for 5 weeks with his single "Brenna tuats guat" (It Burns Well) and his album "Entwederundoder" (Eitherandor), released in September, also performed well in the Austrian and German charts. In 2012 he was awarded 2 Amadeus Austrian Music Awards for the album and the "Brenna tuats" Tour in the same year was one of the most successful tours of his career.
