Accenture Unveils Digital Product Development Framework: Every Business is a Digital Business: a CIMdata Commentary 21 October 2014

Key takeaways:  Increased product complexity and better enabling-technology creates an intersection where businesses have new opportunities to transform operating models and develop new revenue streams  Accenture’s Digital PLM Network enables customers to improve business performance by leveraging state-of-the-art technology across the enterprise and applying new and more interconnected processes  The Digital PLM Network leverages Social, Mobile, Analytics, and Cloud (SMAC) technologies

Page 2 CIMdata PLM Industry Summary to deliver a robust platform to enable better business outcomes and product decisions Introduction Increased product complexity is a given in today’s business environment. In addition to the increasing levels of mechanical, electronics, and software integration within a product, complexity is also driven by regulatory requirements, competition, cost pressures, and customer needs and wants. Thriving and sometimes surviving in this environment requires a business to continually adapt and invest in strategic enabling capabilities. Companies have to improve customer interaction and satisfaction to sustain profitability while developing and growing new revenue streams. Companies have been addressing these issues by investing in automation, integration, big data analytic approaches, and recently more broadly in collaboration solutions (to which system integrators have historically added value). Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) has been a cornerstone of these investments as companies have migrated to using digital technologies to design, develop, manufacture, and service their products. While PLM solutions have continued to evolve to support a product’s definition throughout its lifecycle, next-generation solutions and processes are emerging that enable new business opportunities, including new revenue streams, and that help companies better position themselves for sustained success. Historically, business processes have been sequential: marketing develops a specification; engineering develops a product to meet the specification; manufacturing produces the product; logistics delivers the product; and services supports the product in the field. While this linear approach was effective in the past, a new approach is needed to create and maintain a competitive advantage. A New, More Effective PLM Approach Companies need PLM environments and solutions that enable them to work efficiently and leverage their human and intellectual property resources more effectively. Characteristics of this new PLM approach must include:  Standardized virtualized hardware, operating system, and PLM platforms that incorporate social technology.  COTS (commercial off the shelf) software technology configured to support business processes including open innovation and crowdsourcing.  Applications extending throughout the product lifecycle including ideation, product and portfolio management, product development, supply chain management including costing, collaboration, and customer facing functions from configurators through service and support.  Various types of networked user devices including, but not limited to smart phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops that can access and use solutions from virtually anywhere in the world by virtue of being always connected.  Exploiting electronic, software, and communication technologies and mobile devices within products to create new or expanded revenue streams and extend the time a customer uses the product. o Companies can leverage such ‘smart’ products to gain insights into customer preferences, usage of product features, and potential issues. These insights are essential to develop next-generation products and services that meet customer needs, optimize features based on usage, and provide proactive updates and resolutions.  Ability to leverage digital technologies that include SMAC—Social, Mobility, Analytics, and

Page 3 CIMdata PLM Industry Summary Cloud. o Social technology allows consumer input to be captured and incorporated into product planning and support. It also provides a new communication protocol for unstructured information formerly buried in emails. o Mobile technology provides 24x7 access to information, and it supports “appification” that allows easier manipulation and interpretation of PLM-related information. o Analytics and reporting solutions are able to produce information with diverse enterprise and external data sources to derive new and valuable insights. o Cloud has several impacts including more flexible and scalable infrastructure; simplified security and administration, especially when extending access across a supply chain; and the availability of pay-per-use subscription data services. But the real impact of these technologies is the convergence of the technologies and the power created by their intelligent or smart capabilities. They can leverage information from multiple sources, not just a PDM database, and present it visually in ways that help workers make faster, better, more effective decisions about products and services their company can offer. PLM solution providers are driving the paradigm shift by creating, implementing, and supporting solutions consisting of strategies, tactics, and technologies that leverage the new enabling technologies and new processes for working and creating products. Tomorrow’s successful companies will take advantage of opportunities provided by these new solutions. Starting with PLM strategy, systems integrators are then leveraging industry and technology knowledge via their consulting frameworks to help their customers significantly improve business performance. Their approach includes:  Integrating PLM within the larger extended enterprise including suppliers, manufacturers, distributers, and even customers  Developing industry-focused intellectual property, including best practices for implementation and operations  Delivering these capabilities by deepening technical capabilities organically or via strategic acquisition to support advanced PLM functionality This new operating environment creates a fundamental shift that enables companies to move from the more traditional linear processes, to a network of mutually reinforcing processes, incorporating information from diverse sources that support continuous improvement and innovation. This will enable companies to reimagine what business they are in, what business model they can use, what products and services they can offer, and how they can impact their customers to better compete in today’s fast paced, global marketplace. The result is simple—getting the right products to market faster at lower costs, and sustaining longer revenue streams and customer loyalty. Accenture and Digital PLM Accenture is one of the world’s most experienced and leading providers of PLM strategy and technology services. It operates globally and supports a wide range of industries including automotive, industrial, communications, high-tech, aerospace and defense, and consumer goods. Recent acquisitions of PCO Innovation and PRION enhanced Accenture’s PLM expertise and solution portfolio by adding technical depth and capacity to the firm’s PLM strategy, technology, and services organization. Accenture recently reviewed its Digital PLM Network and client strategy with CIMdata. The strategy

Page 4 CIMdata PLM Industry Summary consists of a new model to leverage modern PLM-enabling technology, including SMAC, to transform business processes from a linear topology to a network topology that improves business performance throughout the extended enterprise. Digital PLM is designed to provide companies with state-of-the-art capabilities to manage product definition across their extended enterprise throughout a product’s lifecycle. The strategy goes beyond technology enablement, and drives the paradigm shift from optimizing the development and production of products, to an integrated network of people, processes, and technologies. This network enables companies to implement new operating models that improve ROI and business outcomes and better satisfy customer wants and needs. In Accenture’s Digital PLM Network shown in the figure below, product definition data resides at the center, and all organizations that need access can get it within the limits of security settings. This enables any organization to directly access the information they need. For example, the service organization can access product configuration definitions to do spare-parts planning for a new product release. This network style of information access improves time to market, quality, and cost. It also enables business processes to be transformed from their traditional linear flow. Conversely, this new model enables designers, engineers, and analysts to access information that is pertinent to their work from beyond the traditional PLM environment. Digital PLM, A New Platform to Support Innovation

Accenture’s Digital PLM Network CIMdata believes the most important benefits of Digital PLM are in how leveraging information across multiple sources can be used to drive innovation in a company’s products and services. Today the comprehensive PLM technology providers are creating platforms that are flexible technology environments built on industry standards. PLM-related applications are deployed and integrated based on these standards. The platform also supports more seamless integration with other business systems and processes. Digital PLM provides a methodology and discipline to ensure that platform, applications, and processes meet company objectives. To implement this new, flexible PLM framework and overall enterprise environment, Accenture works with clients to develop a strategy and roadmap that support organizational, process, and technology

Page 5 CIMdata PLM Industry Summary requirements. Digital PLM solutions are designed to work in both on-premise and cloud-based environments, so users can access and work with needed information regardless of their location or the device they are using. The real key is that Accenture helps their client develop and deploy new processes that better integrate and span multiple areas of the business. The cornerstone of Digital PLM is the ability to aggregate information from multiple business sources and apply analytics across that information to provide workers at all levels with comprehensive views and knowledge they need to make more informed and better decisions faster. It delivers a new discipline that will enable companies to create new services and products that form innovative solutions. Conclusion Increased product complexity and market pressure are today’s reality for most manufacturers. This is not likely to get any easier. Counterbalancing this rise in complexity are the latest PLM capabilities, including SMAC, which can support product data and process growth. Accenture’s Digital PLM Network is a state-of-the-art platform and process strategy for enabling companies to reimagine and optimize their business processes while remaining flexible to meet future requirements. Accenture continues to impress CIMdata with the broad scope and scale of their consulting engagements and their industry knowledge. AVEVA World Summit: Focus on the Digital Asset: a CIMdata Commentary 23 October 2014

Key takeaways:  The AVEVA World Summit drew a global audience of senior leaders and decision makers from the AEC and shipbuilding industries  AVEVA has made great progress on their AVEVA Everything 3D™ (E3D) offering, and now claim over 170 customers  AVEVA also demonstrated exciting new cloud and mobile technology to help their customers build and leverage their “Digital Asset,” a central concept in AVEVA’s vision, messaging, and offerings CIMdata was pleased to attend the AVEVA World Summit in Berlin, Germany on October 16-18, 2014. AVEVA is one of the AEC market leaders tracked by CIMdata in our annual PLM Market Analysis

Page 6 CIMdata PLM Industry Summary Report series. The AVEVA World Summit is a business meeting focused on influencers and decision makers, with presentations by AVEVA and selected customers. This Summit attracted over 300 delegates; 61% from EMEA, 29% from Asia-Pacific, and only 10% from the Americas. Nearly 80% were managers or higher level, so key stakeholders and decision makers were well represented. Richard Longdon, AVEVA’s CEO, kicked off the event and provided the context for much of what followed. He asked the audience to consider the problems facing their industry: increasing production costs relative to oil and gas output, margins under more scrutiny by customers, the need to be more agile to meet demand, and knowledge loss from an aging workforce (e.g., the average age of a U.S. oil and gas worker is 50). Imagine being asked to reduce both time and cost, an increasingly common request in these economically challenged times. According to Mr. Longdon, AVEVA’s solution must help their customers overcome complexity, while providing a unified information source they call the “Digital Asset,” which is at the heart of everything their customers do. This concept, as shown in the figure below, helps AVEVA position the asset lifecycle, AVEVA’s various solutions, and how those offerings serve their major constituents: Engineering, Procurement, and Construction companies (EPCs); Owner- Operators (O-Os); and Shipbuilders. This graphic was everywhere and used in nearly every AVEVA presentation to reinforce the message. Many of the graphics in the meeting rooms and on digital screens around the venue repeated the message, providing additional details on how customers might use combinations of AVEVA solutions to address common business problems. Driving home a message is critical to good marketing and this approach worked well. The various talks from leading customers and AVEVA staff showed how the AVEVA solutions support this concept, to the benefit of their customers and various asset stakeholders. In the opening keynote, Colin K. Fairweather, Applied Technology Director (Europe) at AMEC, a large EPC customer, got right to it with his talk “Digital Asset – Myth or Reality?” While he had some criticisms, most of his comments were positive, and it was clear that AMEC relies on significant elements of the AVEVA portfolio and is rapidly introducing more into their work processes. Mr. Fairweather would like more support from AVEVA in the conceptual design phase and for vendor data collection since 50% of documents on their large projects come from vendors. His conclusion: the digital asset is not a myth, and is almost a reality. One reality that AVEVA and their competitors must confront is a highly heterogeneous computing environment. RasGas, a Qatari liquid natural gas (LNG) company, claimed “data is the new oil,” and while they seek a “single source of trust,” their computing environment includes AVEVA offerings, SAP, Documentum, SharePoint, and many homegrown systems. In this IT complexity they are not that different from companies in the broader PLM market.

Page 7 CIMdata PLM Industry Summary

AVEVA’s Digital Asset Messaging (Courtesy of AVEVA) Large user events are often where new solutions are introduced, and AVEVA did not disappoint. In fact, they held the session by Dave Wheeldon, their CTO, early during the first day to get more feedback from the crowd. In January 2013 AVEVA announced their AVEVA Everything 3D (E3D) offering and now claim more than 170 customers. AVEVA has also made great progress with their AVEVA Activity Visualization Platform, based on gaming technology, which they introduced in September 2013. (PLM leaders like Dassault Systèmes and Siemens PLM Software have used this approach to great effect.) The main stage boasted a huge high-resolution display, perfect for showing off their products. The highly complex ocean platform model used in the demonstrations, provided by Shell, a big AVEVA customer, was impressive and illustrated the strong performance for doing common visualization functions, like zoom, pan, and sectioning. AVEVA also showed how laser point cloud scan data, from their LFM software, can be readily combined with 3D CAD data to provide true “design in context” for brownfield efforts, an essential capability for many customers. This year the big announcements focused on new ways to implement and use these offerings. AVEVA has been working with Microsoft (Azure) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) for several years, looking to bring their offerings to the cloud. AVEVA demonstrated their work with AWS using Amazon AppStream, a “flexible, low-latency service that lets you stream resource-intensive applications from the cloud.”1 This small download (about 7 MB for Windows) effectively puts the app inside the user’s Web browser. AVEVA showed a side-by-side comparison with their existing desktop virtualization software and the performance was impressive. Eventually they said they could offer the whole AVEVA suite this way. Of course, this is not a native cloud app, but as long as the performance is good and security concerns are addressed, users will not care. This approach also lets AVEVA readily combine on-premise and cloud users across the value chain, as suggested in the figure above. This is still the early days and there is much work to do, but they claimed to have started with the hardest problem first. How to handle

1 http://aws.amazon.com/appstream/

Page 8 CIMdata PLM Industry Summary

Combining AVEVA E3D On-Premise and Cloud (Courtesy of AVEVA) customizations in their cloud instance is another big issue, one they are just beginning to investigate. AVEVA has two beta customers lined up and are looking for more input. CIMdata believes AVEVA’s approach has merit, helping to address many user concerns while supporting the on-premise/cloud mix that exists in companies today. The other impressive demonstration focused on touch screens and a new UI code-named Voyager. The AVEVA booth sported a large touch screen display (from Microsoft) that was deployed on stage as well. Anyone with a smartphone or tablet knows that touch is everywhere. What we also know is that our personal devices spoil us: touch response has to be almost immediate. It took them some time in development, but the AVEVA team showed how touch-based manipulations were immediately reflected when mirrored on the big screen. Then they added support for point clouds, a must for brownfield developments. AVEVA NET provides access to all of the managed data, and now touch provides a new opportunity to put “information at your fingertips.” The Voyager UI does indeed let your fingers do the walking through multiple layers of information, quickly served up in context. This new UI was clean and very responsive, and it provides a visual cockpit for both novice and expert users. The AVEVA team suggested that a large touchscreen might prove valuable on the job site, as a central information hub for the digital asset. CIMdata believes this to be the case because it has observed similar techniques being used in a few manufacturing facilities today. What should we make of all this? AVEVA’s customers have a large set of complex problems. Unlike the use of many PLM applications, the designer, builder, end user, and maintainer may be different organizations that must each contribute to the digital asset, and must rely on it as well. When realized, the digital asset could provide that “single source of truth,” or “single source of trust,” mentioned by customers as needed to support their collaborative efforts across the asset lifecycle. Based on CIMdata’s discussions with customers at the event, AVEVA is delivering on that vision. In many ways they are

Page 9 CIMdata PLM Industry Summary ahead of their customers with their cloud and mobile work, but not by much. Having a good IT partner with a vision that can pull your organization along is the goal for many companies, in this market or others. If AVEVA continues delivering and providing needed value, then their digital asset will truly be at the core of their customers’ products, powering their efforts and helping deliver superior value to their customers’ stakeholders. AWV Informatik and LEDAS Enter into Research and Development Agreement 23 October 2014

AWV Informatik and LEDAS today announced the signing of a services and consulting agreement. This long-term agreement relates to research and development of several AWV projects by LEDAS, as detailed below.

Page 11 CIMdata PLM Industry Summary The two companies have a long and successful story of partnership going back to 2007, when AWV licensed the LGS geometric constraint solver developed by LEDAS. LGS was integrated into ClassCAD, a CAD platform used by several European industrial enterprises. The flow of feature requests from the ClassCAD team was a major driver in the further development of LGS and improvement in its capabilities. ClassCAD is not a typical CAD system; rather, it works as integrated platform to build end-user applications. ClassCAD provides an object-oriented environment for modeling 3D parts and assemblies. It includes a programming language for task automation within CAD applications. A standalone version with visualization (based on the VTK toolkit) is also available. The client-server version of ClassCAD runs on Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform with WebGL viewing in browsers. ClassCAD converts models from other CAD systems to its native format, and can export its models to other systems, preserving the feature history. Development Plans The first project to be developed under the new services and consulting agreement is high-performance, GPU-based tessellation of arbitrary surfaces, including NURBS. LEDAS began development of this project for AWV in mid-September on the basis of an older prototype, which did not produce stable results of appropriate quality. The expertise of the LEDAS team in this area is the key factor for the success of this project. The team obtained its expertise from working on numerous geometric modeling projects, including the recent development of LEDAS’ own Geometry Comparison technology that was integrated with the C3D geometric kernel from C3D Labs. “We have identified three to four projects for development by LEDAS,“ said Rainer Weigel, chief executive officer of AWV Informatik. “In addition to this initial GPU-based NURBS tessellation project, we see good opportunities in the development of custom industrial software on the basis of constraint propagation methods. Other projects involve advanced CAD interoperability solutions that preserve all the features and parameters during translation between CAD systems. I feel that the academic background and technical experience of both AWV Informatik and LEDAS forms a good base for a successful joint venture.” “High quality tessellation is a really important feature for contemporary CAD systems, because it visually appealing to users,” said Alexey Ershov, chief executive officer of LEDAS. “We are eager to develop a state-of-the-art tessellation solution for AWV. We will be using our experience in geometric modeling and parallel CPU/GPU computations as a first step in this cooperation agreement. All of the projects under consideration are very innovative, high-tech solutions that require excellent algorithmic skills – ones that we at LEDAS are proud of.”

The offering is geared towards the early phase of product development and the rapid creation of model variants, e.g. for the validation of concept cars and mechanical components or systems in the transportation industry (aviation, high-speed trains, etc.). The basis for this is provided by the innovative, CATIA-CAA-based Fast Concept Modelling (FCM) software, which allows a greater degree of automation and considerably expanded optimization options when using numeric calculation methods. As a CATIA workbench, FCM ensures end-to-end process chains in the world of CAE, which is dominated by specialist tools. This enables companies to move more rapidly from the initial product idea to functionally validated model variants and concepts. "The collaboration with Dassault Systèmes within the framework of the partner program provides even better market access," says Dr. Werner Pohl, Chief Technology Officer at Fast Concept Modelling & Simulation GmbH. "As a CAA adopter, we are part of a worldwide CATIA network, which facilitates the exchange of experiences with other experts." FCM is a unique solution that is already being used by major automotive OEMs and other customers. The concept tool supports the simple, rapid development of parametric geometrical models, going beyond the options provided by native CATIA parametrics, and controls the automatic definition of boundary and load conditions, assignment of attributes, networking, calculation and optimization in the loop. This means that companies can dispense with the laborious manual conditioning of CATIA models for computer simulation and speed up the entire development process significantly. FCM is an open system that uses readily available CAE software for the optimization loop and can be incorporated in an existing CAx environment with no special requirements.

Summer Cycling Spirit Pays Dividends 22 October 2014

On March 1st CAD Schroer began its fourth “cycle to work” challenge. This time the engineering software provider encouraged staff to leave their cars at home for eight months in 2014. In August every kilometre cycled racked up a charity donation. Great Encouragement for Cycle Commute Employees have been pedalling with panache, rather than burning gas, in order to collect as many kilometres as possible from March to October. “We’re now already most of the way through this year’s cycle-to-work challenge,” says Simon Geard of CAD Schroer UK in Cambridge, who cycles to the office every day. “The month of August was the highlight, because every kilometer we cycled counted towards a corporate charity contribution. That’s a great motivator.” Cycling for Charity Each year, engineering software provider CAD Schroer, headquartered near Düsseldorf, sponsors the cycling campaign for all its offices, keeping a daily tally of the kilometres employees ride in the designated challenge period. During August, all kilometres cycled to work, or on after-work cycling trips with colleagues, translated directly into charity contributions. “This year we managed to ride 4250 km during our charity month,” says Gudrun Tebart of CAD Schroer Germany. “50 cents for each km will now go to charity, and all staff members will help to decide which charities benefit.” More and More Staff Hitting the Pedals “When sporting spirit, personal competitiveness, and the ability to make a difference to peoples’ lives and the planet come together, it’s an unbeatable combination,” Gudrun continues. CAD Schroer Managing Director Michael Schroer adds, “The cycle-to-work campaign has gained real traction in our company, with more and more staff getting involved. We’re looking forward to breaking even more records before the end of the season.”

Delcam to Show Full CADCAM Range at Autodesk University 24 October 2014

Delcam will demonstrate its full range of CADCAM software at Autodesk University in Las Vegas from 2nd to 4th December. The latest releases on show will include the 2015 versions of the PowerSHAPE Pro CAD package, the PowerMILL CAM system for high-speed and five-axis machining and the FeatureCAM feature-based programming software. In addition, Delcam staff will present classes in advanced machining, artistic CADCAM and clay milling during the conference program. To register for Autodesk University, please go to au.autodesk.com By offering a combination of solid, surface and direct modelling, together with reverse engineering functionality, PowerSHAPE Pro provides the most comprehensive range of design techniques available in a single CAD program. Having all the different technologies in the same package reduces the need to transfer data between multiple programs and so streamlines the whole product development process. The main enhancement in the 2015 release is the Smart Feature Selector. This option allows multiple similar features to be found and selected using either a specific value or a range of values. Once the particular group has been selected, all the features within it can be edited simultaneously. This new functionality will speed the preparation of models for manufacturing significantly. For example, one common problem in product designs that are to be moulded or cast is that fillet sizes are set so small that they restrict the flow of material. The Smart Feature Selector can be used to identify any fillets below the required radius and then all the fillets found can be increased to the desired minimum size simultaneously. Full details, including video demonstrations, are on the Learning Zone – www.delcam.tv/ps2015 The new release of PowerMILL, Delcam’s programming system for high-speed and five-axis machining, includes improvements to the Vortex high-efficiency area-clearance strategy, expanded collision checking to also cover near misses, and more efficient raster finishing. Vortex produces safe toolpaths with a much deeper cut by using a controlled engagement angle that maintains the optimum cutting conditions for the whole toolpath. As a result, higher feed rates and material-removal rates are possible, making the cutting time shorter by as much as 70%. Enhancements in PowerMILL 2015 will give even greater reductions in machining time with Vortex compared to conventional roughing. Full details, including video demonstrations, are on the Learning Zone – www.delcam.tv/pm2015 As well as including the latest developments in the Vortex strategy, the 2015 version of FeatureCAM incorporates a range of enhancements in three-axis milling, two-axis and five-axis drilling, turning and turn-mill, and wire EDM to make the software even more powerful and easier to use. German Preview of VISI 21 at Euromold 23 October 2014

Major enhancements in the forthcoming release of VISI 21, from Vero Software, will be on display for the first time in Germany at the Euromold Exhibition in Frankfurt (Hall 8, Stand K70). Due to be released in November, VISI 21 includes 340+ product enhancements and a continued emphasis on intelligent solutions for mould making and stamping die industries. Updated CAD developments include a new process for managing multiple instances of the same geometry within an assembly. For example, multi-insert moulds and dies can now be managed with a single ‘master’ part which will automatically update all references of the same geometry if any part modification is required. Importantly, standard catalogue components will also be managed by the multi-instance technology. The forthcoming release also includes motion study simulation tools allowing the user to define timelines which control the movement for various groups of components. The physical interaction of model geometry can be detected and the results of complex mechanisms simulated and investigated - ideal when validating the tool design and checking for potential collisions with slides, cams and lifters. Other CAD highlights include Part Revision Management, where it is now possible to manage model changes after they have been released to manufacture. A revision history is automatically created when a model has been released with the model geometry automatically locked. Any change to a released model will create a copy of the data and update the revision number; providing a history track and ensuring part manufacture is always up to date. VISI 21 represents a release with significant CAM focus, including a fresh new look to the CAM Navigator, command consolidation, and new dialogue box consistency within all milling operations, dramatically simplifying toolpath generation. Feature tree grouping, management of multiple setups/features along with drag & drop capabilities within the tree, make the feature list and navigation extremely efficient. All features in the tree can be moved, edited, mirrored, and with a new dedicated “undo” mechanism for CAM, user mistakes can be easily rectified. Version 21 introduces the next generation of CAM toolpaths for VISI machining. As with the GUI, 2D milling operations have been consolidated and include a host of new options. A new ‘complex feature’ allow the users to define geometry to machine that have a complex side wall and island wall section shape. Typically requiring 3D strategies, the new ‘complex feature’ means that standard 2D operations can be applied. Re-machining on a 2D toolpath is another highlight, where a simple milling operation now bases all the re-machining on the previous operation. This means that all the correct areas are machined, even on the flat areas of the toolpath. Full collision checks on all lead-in and retract movements ensure 2D toolpaths are more efficient than ever. The GUI layout for 3D milling operations now shares a similar format to that of the 2D CAM toolpaths. For example, the clearance area and oversize settings in the 3D operations will be in the same location as those in 2D operations, and vice versa. The overall quality of the surface finish is a major point for VISI 21 with significantly improved point distribution and enhanced accuracy. To complement the new 2D and 3D toolpath developments, a new G-code simulator provides users with an accurate virtual representation of the part, before committing it to the machine. The quality and accuracy of the model

Page 27 CIMdata PLM Industry Summary representation has been improved along with the number of axes that can be simulated. For true NC code checking, an extra option is available to simulate the real posted NC files from the toolpath. All the relevant G-codes, M-codes and moves are simulated against the real machine model to ensure that the NC file run on the machine will be 100% safe. Wire EDM developments include the introduction of smart operations which analyse the feature geometry and determine the best method of cutting. Other enhancements include the addition of multiple slug retention methods and ‘manual moves’, which can be added into a work sequence to reposition the nozzles to avoid fixtures or move from one cut to another.

3D Systems Announces Preliminary Third Quarter 2014 Results 22 October 2014

3D Systems Corporation announced today that it anticipates its third quarter revenue to be in the range of $164 million to $169 million and a sequentially growing order book of $42 million. The company expects to report GAAP earnings per share in the range of $0.01 to $0.03 and non-GAAP EPS in the range of $0.16 to $0.19. These are preliminary results based on current expectations and are subject to quarter-end closing adjustments, actual results may differ. Strengthening sales of the company’s design, manufacturing and healthcare products and services were not enough to overcome the revenue shortfall from the continued manufacturing capacity constraints for its direct metals printers and delayed availability of its newest consumer products. “We are disappointed that we failed to fully capitalize on the robust demand for our direct metal and consumer products during the quarter,” said Avi Reichental, President and Chief Executive Officer, 3DS. “While we worked very hard to deliver these products sooner, achieving manufacturing scale, quality and user experience targets took significantly longer than we had anticipated.” At the end of the third quarter, the company brought online a second direct metal 3D printers’ manufacturing line and began commercial shipments of its latest consumer printers. “Now that we have closed these availability gaps, we expect our revenue growth rate to increase,” continued Reichental. The company expects to report that its materials’ gross profit margins rebounded for the quarter and its Quickparts’ gross profit margin expanded sequentially, despite greater drag from concentrated service bureau acquisitions in the quarter. Notwithstanding these gains, the company expects its consolidated gross profit margin for the quarter to remain sequentially flat as a result of the current sales volume and mix and the residual costs of manufacturing start up and ramp. “Our accelerated investments in new products and acquisitions contributed to a record order book in every period of this year, but disrupted revenue generation and pressured our gross profit margins. Now that we are shifting our attention to fine-tuning these investments, we expect to leverage them into a valuable and sustainable first-mover advantage,” stated Reichental. Factoring in its third quarter revenue shortfall and outlook for the remainder of the year, management trimmed its previous guidance for the full year 2014. Management now expects revenue in the range of $650 million to $690 million, and GAAP earnings per share of $0.18 to $0.28 and non-GAAP earnings per share in the range of $0.70 to $0.80. “The same decisive actions that pressured our short term performance also delivered a much stronger portfolio of self-developed and acquired products and services. In the aggregate, we believe this positions us well to achieve our long-term targets,” concluded Reichental. German Architecture Firm SL Rasch uses ESI's Virtual Performance Solution to Achieve Architectural Excellence in Medina and Mecca 20 October 2014

ESI Group announces the recent success of our client, SL Rasch: an architecture firm based in Germany that specializes in innovative buildings and lightweight structures. SL Rasch recently completed two complex architectural projects at the sacred sites of Medina and Mecca. The first was the design of foldable umbrellas that now protect pilgrims from the sun in the Medina Haram Piazza and the second was the design of the Mecca Royal Hotel Clock. Using ESI’s flagship software, Virtual Performance Solution, SL Rasch confidently investigated innovative designs and replaced physical models by virtual tests. Today, the millions of pilgrims that travel every year to the Great of Medina, in , are sheltered by more than 250 hydraulically powered, foldable umbrellas, each measuring 26 x 26 meters. These translucent umbrellas are folded at night and open up during the day to create a micro- climate beneath them that is up to 8°C cooler than the surrounding area. Pilgrims visiting the important holy site in Mecca can admire the Mecca Royal Hotel Clock, situated at the top of a 601m high tower, which became the second tallest building in the world in 2012. In order to test their designs of umbrellas for Medina SL Rasch initially used reduced scale physical models, but found that approach to be limiting. Dr. Mahmoud Bodo Rasch, CEO of SL Rasch therefore

Page 37 CIMdata PLM Industry Summary approached Dr Eberhard Haug, co-founder of ESI Group and author of the Lightweight Structure Analysis code “LISA”, seeking to collaborate in applying simulation methods in the evolution of more elaborate designs for these complex structures. SL Rasch then virtually built and tested different types of structures using Virtual Performance Solution, ESI’s software that enables the assessment of all domains of product performance around a single core model. This required great care because of the complex geometry and importance of the architectural appearance of the umbrella’s double curve structure. In particular, a form finding process was used to determine a shape that would result in optimal minimum energy – necessary to guarantee that the membranes would last in time and under extreme weather conditions. For structural analysis of turbulent wind loads on such lightweight structures, the team used Fluid- Structure Interaction (FSI) simulations, coupling Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) with Computational Structural Dynamics (CSD); both available as part of Virtual Performance Solution. SL Rasch and ESI co-created special tailor-made modules for modelling naturally turbulent wind loads and optimizing the shape and structure of the umbrellas. These were then used in computer simulations that investigated the safe folding and stowing of the giant umbrellas, taking into account gravity, overlaps, and wind loads. ESI’s unique expertise in the simulation of airbag folding for the automotive industry proved to be highly relevant throughout the studies. Dr Rasch, Founder and Owner of SL Rasch GmbH comments, “With the know-how of ESI experts and the capabilities built into ESI’s advanced CAE software solutions, designing our innovative structural systems became possible.” Virtual Performance Solution also helped SL Rasch to overcome significant engineering challenges when designing the Mecca Royal Hotel Clock; constructed as a high strength steel structural skeleton clad with lightweight ornamented carbon-epoxy sandwich panels. The giant hollow-section composite clock hands - 23 meters long in the case of the minute clock hand - presented a special challenge as SL Rasch had to ensure these were aerodynamically stable even under high wind velocities and pressure; especially in the least favorable 12 o‘clock position, where the danger of periodic aero-elastic flutter was highest. The team performed wind tunnel test and CFD calculations before FSI simulation allowed them to validate their designs. By using simulation, instead of building and testing physical prototypes for these two complex projects, SL Rasch was able to test many versions of the design and achieve optimal results while, at the same time, addressing all applicable safety requirements. This study also spared SL Rasch the production of physical prototypes, thereby saving time, considerable costs and environmental waste.

ESTECO Unveils modeFRONTIER ® 2014 20 October 2014

A powerful, self-adapting optimization algorithm, enhanced data mining and database handling and three new direct integration nodes: the latest release of modeFRONTIER reaches new performance levels by streamlining the management of highly complex design scenarios. ESTECO SpA has announced the release of modeFRONTIER ® 2014 - the latest version of its multi- disciplinary and multi-objective optimization and integration platform that comes with a range of innovative functionalities and improvements aimed at making life easier for designers. modeFRONTIER 2014 introduces the powerful multi-purpose self-adapting algorithm - pilOPT - created by the ESTECO numerical team to offer a “one-click” optimization experience. By combining global and local search and balancing real and RSM-based optimization, pilOPT achieves good coverage of the Pareto front in a very short time. It requires the configuration of only one parameter – the number of design evaluations - and ensures substantial time savings through a broad exploration of the optimal design region and the efficient use of computational resources. Powell’s method has been included in the optimization portfolio as a valid and efficient alternative to gradient-based algorithms, requiring considerably less computational effort due to its derivative-free approach. This single-objective optimization algorithm is particularly useful for calculating the local minimum of continuous complex functions - especially those without an underlying mathematical definition. The Stepwise Regression RSM algorithm provides an automatic procedure for selecting the polynomial regression model with the optimal number and combination of predictor terms, yielding the lowest approximation error and highest prediction capability. The response surface is iteratively adapted to problem complexity until the best possible value of the selected quality criterion is achieved. The resulting polynomial is accurate, yet simple and requires no effort on behalf of the user when training

Page 42 CIMdata PLM Industry Summary and testing the fitness of different candidate models. The new DOE Designer Node completes the set of native modeFRONTIER nodes, along with the SubProcess and Scheduling Project nodes, aimed at creating re-usable modular and discipline-specific workflows. The DOE Designer Node generates DOE configurations at runtime, allowing the user to expand the coverage of the design space and to focus on precise regions in order to fine-tune the exploration phase in accordance with problem characteristics. On the integration side, three new direct nodes - NX CAE by Siemens, Solidworks Flow Simulation and PowerFLOW suite by EXA –developed to automate data extraction and simulation execution and fully exploit modeFRONTIER optimization capabilities.

CADverter v17.2 also includes support for the latest Publish 3D suite of products , Theorem's popular Multi-CAD plugin solution and the class leading traditional uni and bi- directional CADverters listed below.  PTC Creo Parametric CADverter to/from CATIA R18 to V5-6R2013/R2014 (R23/R24)  PTC Creo Parametric CADverter to/from 3DEXPERIENCE Platform (R2014x) formerly CATIA V6  PTC Creo Parametric CADverter to/from NX 9  PTC’s Creo Parametric CADverter to/from JT The Publish 3D suite of products for PTC’s Creo Parametric WF5, Creo 1.0 and Creo 2.0 includes: Publish 3D Interactive, Publish 3D On Demand and Publish 3D Automated. This publishing suite allow companies to easily create and share PDF documentation containing embedded interactive 3D data published directly from PTC Creo Parametric data. Published interactive 3D models contained within a standard PDF document can then be viewed and interrogated. Components within assemblies can be turned on and off, shaded and rendered for technical authoring, viewed as either a solid, wireframe or even cross-sectioned, all using the freely available Adobe Acrobat Reader. Multi-CAD for PTC’s Creo Parametric WF5, Creo 1.0 and Creo 2.0 is aimed at users needing to work in a Multi-CAD environment with CATIA users but without the need for external translation. Native data can be easily inserted into the Multi-CAD environment, keeping full associativity in CATIA and updating the native Creo data automatically, when changes are made.

TraceParts Releases New Version of its Supplier Parts Management system 23 October 2014

TraceParts has now released Service Pack 2 of its Supplier Parts Management Software TraceParts Enterprise. Major improvements in usability and performance for design departments have been added to this release. Six months after the official launch of TraceParts Enterprise, the software is now available in version 2014 SP2. The feedback, given by hundreds of Try & Buy users who have tested TraceParts Enterprise for 30 days, had a huge influence on the definition of this release. “In the past six months our Try & Buy program has evolved extremely good. While we initially focused on German and French speaking countries, we’re now receiving trial requests from all over the world. This proves that preventing part duplicates is a global issue which affects everybody in the design world”, explains Alfred Schallert, Global Product Manager TraceParts Enterprise. The main purpose of TraceParts Enterprise is to prevent duplicate purchased parts. This is done with advanced content management functions, which allows an administrator to control the standard and supplier parts which are supposed to be used by the designers. For additionally needed parts, the designers can use the seamlessly integrated Request Management module. “All the positive feedback we received from our Try & Buy users shows that an efficient management of standard and supplier parts before the CAD download itself, has a stronger effect on cost savings than many other solutions on the market” adds Alfred Schallert. For the 2015 release, which is planned for December, TraceParts has many exciting new features on its roadmap, focusing on Status Management for part numbers and Subscription Management for external sub-contractors.
