This season Holland & Sherry proudly present a new and exclusive collection of fabrics produced from Gostwyck superfine Saxon merino wool. Being the only cloth merchant with exclusive rights to this product, this wool will become a core source for other qualities in our collection over the coming years.

1 HISTORY Gostwyck is owned and managed by the fifth generation of the original purchaser Henry Dangar. Dangar bought the farm, located in the New England Tablelands in New South Wales, in 1834 from another pioneer, Edward Gostwyck Cory, hence the name. In 1854 Dangar went to Saxony in Germany and bought 28 rams. These rams were escorted to Australia in the care of two Saxon shepherds who later stayed on and made a new life in Australia.

2 3 THE SUPPLY CHAIN FOR THE FABRICS in this collection have full traceability; meaning there is documented and recorded identification of all processes from sheep to cloth. Nothing is left to chance. Every fleece is tested at shearing so we can guarantee that the garments made from Gostwyck merino are comfortable and long lasting.

4 5 ANIMAL TREATMENT With a rotational grazing sheep management system in place, animal stress is minimised or eliminated. This means that: • The sheep do not graze on any one pasture for any great length of time. 8 9 THE QUALITY OF GOSTWYCK MERINO FIBRE is the result of over 180 years expertly selecting merino sheep that produce finer, softer and whiter wool. Today the producers of Gostwyck wool produce merino which is finer than most cashmere, and has been scientifically tested as the most comfortable natural fibre. This makes Gostwyck merino completely itch free.

10 11 12 13 GOSTWYCK 14.6 – 15.5 µ Averaging 15µ, Gostwyck can be described as being finer and more luxurious than the softest cashmere. To achieve this, great care is taken not to contaminate the wool tops with any other wool fibres coarser than 17.3µ. These are considered too harsh and would compromise the next-to-skin comfort quality that the Gostwyck wool growers pride themselves upon. Gostwyck merino has a softness and luxury feel that surpasses all expectations.

14 15 OVER THE PAST 30 YEARS, Gostwyck merino has developed and become one of the most comfortable wools that can be worn directly next to skin with little or no irritation, and is becoming known for its next-to-skin comfort qualities. This quality is now measured and supported by tests from the WoolComfort Meter where Gostwyck merino scores at the very top of the comfort spectrum. Gostwyck has constantly improved and has a tradition of being an early adopter of science and grazing developments.

16 17 NEXT-TO-SKIN COMFORT AND ITCH FREE To ensure that all garments made from Gostwyck merino are itch free, every fleece is tested using a LaserScan system to determine the fibre diameter, prior to the traditional classing process at shearing.

1 HISTOIRE Gostwyck appartient et est gérée depuis 1834 par la cinquième génération des descendants du propriétaire d’origine, Henry Dangar. La ferme qui élève ce mouton Merinos a la laine superfine, est située dans la région des Tablelands de Nouvelle- Angleterre en Nouvelle-Galles du Sud (Australie). La famille Dangar décida de nommer ce Merinos « Gostwyck » en mémoire d’un ami Pionnier : Edward Gostwyck Cory. En 1854, Dangar se rendit en Saxe Allemande, et acheta 28 béliers de cette race exceptionnelle. Ces béliers furent escortés jusqu’en Australie sous la protection de deux bergers Saxes, qui s’établirent par la suite dans ce pays pour y démarrer une nouvelle vie.

TRAÇABILITÉ Nous exigeons du producteur, une traçabilité intégrale, c’est-à- dire une identification documentée et enregistrée de l’ensemble de la chaîne d’approvisionnement : de la qualité de l’animal, de son environnement, la gestion de son alimentation et ses conditions de vie, la tonte… jusqu’à la production de l’étoffe finale. Rien n’est laissé au hasard. Chaque toison est testée par le propriétaire lors de la tonte afin que nous puissions garantir, le confort et la durabilité des vêtements fabriqués à partir de la laine Mérinos Gostwyck. 4 5 DÉVELOPPEMENT DURABLE Tout commence par le type de gestion des pâturages sur lesquels les Mérinos s’alimentent au quotidien. On parle de « gestion de Pâturage en rotation » : Les moutons sont déplacés régulièrement et paissent sur différents parcelles. Evitant ainsi à la terre de s’appauvrir et perdre ses qualités nutritives. Ces terres ou l’utilisation de produits chimiques est soigneusement contrôlée et complètement minimisée donnent des pâturages naturels de haute qualité à la valeur nutritionnelle maximisée. Les changements majeurs instaurés au sein des pratiques de pâturage (autrefois pâturages uniques) ont généré une augmentation constante de la durabilité de la qualité des sols et de l’eau des terres ou paissent les Mérinos. L’environnement et l’écologie bénéficient grandement de ces systèmes de pâturage de pointe. Un environnement propice et de l’eau en abondance permettent donc aux moutons Gostwyk de se développer sans stress. La Santé Globale des animaux est optimisée la qualité de la laine exceptionnelle.

8 9 LA QUALITÉ DE LA FIBRE MÉRINOS GOSTWYCK est le résultat de plus de 180 ans de sélection d’experts de moutons de race mérinos produisant une laine plus fine, plus douce et plus blanche. De nos jours, les fabricants de la laine Gostwyck produisent une laine mérinos plus fine que la plupart des cachemires, testée scientifiquement comme étant une des fibres naturelles les plus confortables. Elle présente aussi des qualités anti allergiques (Démangeaisons).

10 11 12 13 GOSTWYCK 14.6 – 15.5 µ Dotée d’environ 15µ, la laine Gostwyck est considérée comme étant plus fine et luxueuse que le plus doux des cachemires. Pour atteindre cela, l’on prend grand soin de ne pas contaminer les rubans de laine peignée avec d’autres fibres de laine dont l’épaisseur est supérieure à 17.3µ. Ces fibres sont considérées comme étant trop rêches et seraient susceptibles de compromettre la qualité de confort à même la peau qui font la fierté des producteurs de laine Gostwyck.

Heute produzieren die Hersteller von Gostwyck- Wolle eine Merinowolle, die beinahe feiner als Kaschmir und auch nach wissenschaftlichen Maßstäben die bequemste Naturfaser ist. Mithilfe des WoolComfort Meters wurde die Qualität nun gemessen und bestätigt, dass die Gostwyck-Merinowolle ganz oben auf der Komfortskala steht.
