Colonizacih por invertebrados de macr~$?tos emergentes durante su descomposicih en el rio Parami Alicia Por DE NEIFF (1) y Yolanda BRUQUETAS DE ZOZAYA (1) RESUMEN La colonizaci6n de la broza de Polygonum acuminatum y Panicum elephantipes fue esludiada en un brazo secundario del rio Parana que entra en la isla Choui. Las pérdidas de peso SECOfueron medidas debajo del agua (a 2 m de profundidad), utilizando la técnica de las bolsas de broza. La abundancia de inverfebrados que colonizan el detrito fue expresada por bolsa de broza y por g de peso seco remanenie. Los coeficientes de decaimiento de P. ac.uminatum y P. elephantipes, estimados en base a 50 dias de descomposicion, fueron 0,017 y 0,0085 respectivamente. Las densidades de 10s invertebrados aumentaron con la progresiva descomposicion de las plantas. Hubo una correlacion linear negativa entre el peso seco remanente y el nrimero de invertebrados por g de broza remanente. Las maximas densidades fueron menores que 17 invertebrados por g de broza remanente. Una disminucion de la densidad fue observada después de 10s 24 dias de incubacidn. cuando el rio Parami inundo la isla Choui. Durante 10s primeros 7 dias recolectores y predatores tuvieron abundancia relafiva semejantes en el material de ambas especies. Los colonizadores mas abundantes fueron Chironomus SP.,‘ Dicrotendipes sp, g Ablabesmyia sp. Los colectores filtradores (Cyclesthe,ria hislopii y Cythe.ridella ilosvayi) fueron dominantes a 10s 30 dias de incubation. Adult and juveniles specimens of this freshwater limpet were collected in In the present paper we report for the first time the presence of point of occurrence of G. radiata in South America. As a result, the distributional range of this species is increased and the two temporary water bodies. This record represents the first report of this species in Argentina but also is the southernmost species richness of Ancylidae in Argentina is incremented to a total of seven species classified in four genera. The Ancylidae sensu latum are freshwater pulmonate snails, characterized by a pateliform shell. Ancylidae are cosmopolitan, and according to Santos (2003) there are seven genera in South America: Anisancylus Pilsbry, 1924; Gundlachia Pfeiffer, 1849; Hebetancylus Pilsbry, 1913; Uncancylus Pilsbry, 1913; Burnupia Walker, 1912; Ferrissia Walker, 1913 and Laevapex Walker, 1903. -

E-mail: [email protected] Handling editor: Yi-Ming Li Received on 20 March 2018; accepted on 5 July 2018 Abstract Pomacea canaliculata is a successful invader and also a competitor and predator of other snails and may play a key role in structuring freshwater snail communities both in its native and invaded range. In the present study we evaluated the contact and distant effects of P. canaliculata in its native range on exotic (Melanoides tuberculata and Physa acuta) and native snails (Heleobia parchappii, Biomphalaria peregrina,andChilina parchappii). Habitat use was affected in P. acuta, H. parchappii, and B. peregrina by contact effects of P. canaliculata, whereas survival was only affected in P. acuta through combined contact and distant effects. Fecundity was reduced in P. acuta and B. peregrina by combined contact and distant effects; evidence of egg mass predation was also observed in both spe- cies. Melanoides tuberculata was not affected at all by P. canaliculata. The snail species with higher withdrawal responses to contacts with P. canaliculata were those that suffered less mortality by cor- poral contact, whereas snails with high crawling away responses suffered from higher mortality. -

Conids are well known for being active predators on worms, fishes, and even other snails. Cones are venomous gastropods, meaning that they use a sophisticated cocktail of hundreds of toxins, named conotoxins, to subdue their prey. Although this venom has been studied for decades, most of the effort has been focused on Indo-Pacific species. Thus far, Atlantic species have received little attention despite recent radiations have led to a hotspot of diversity in West Africa, with high levels of endemic species. In fact, the Atlantic Chelyconus ermineus is thought to represent an adaptation to piscivory independent from the Indo-Pacific species and is, therefore, key to understanding the basis of this diet specialization. We studied the transcriptomes of the venom gland of three individuals of C. ermineus. The venom repertoire of this species included more than 300 conotoxin precursors, which could be ascribed to 33 known and 22 new (unassigned) protein superfamilies, respectively. Most abundant superfamilies were T, W, O1, M, O2, and Z, accounting for 57% of all detected diversity. -

In the laboratory, we separated subsamples for both histology and parasite-emergence assessment. The former examined the gonadal- development stages in relation to larval presence along with the effect of the larvae on the gonadal tissue and calculated parasite prevalence per age and size. Larval prevalence increased with host length and was greater in post-reproductive-stage individuals, more than 7.5 mm long the parasitism reached 100%. That stage became maximal in August, while juveniles predominated in December and January. The females were predominant almost throughout the year, but were parasitized at the same frequency as the males (p=0.38). -

The knowledge about occurrence, distribution and systematic of these snails is poorly known in Brazil, although fundamental to studies concerning biodiversity, not only by the continental dimensions of the country, but also considering the reduced number of malacologists. In this paper, we report the first record of Uncancylus concentricus (d´Orbigny, 1835) to Ilha Grande island (23°04'32" S, 23°13'42" S and 44°05'24" W, 44°22'41" W), state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil based on two specimens obtained from Praia do Sul Biological Reserve. -

This study describes and analyzes the degree of preservation of shells of both species recovered from nine Holocene localities in order to describe and quantify taphonomic alterations, evaluate if preservation varied during the Holocene, and assess their utility as paleoenvironmental bioindicators. Heleobia parchappii displayed better overall preservation than H. australis, with little evidence of fragmentation, limited principally to levels with highest densities. On a temporal scale, no significant differences in fragmentation were found, whereas corrasion and luster displayed temporal differences. -

This compilation summarizes titles of articles published in 2015. Additionally, pertinent titles of articles published prior to 2015 also have been included if they had not been cited in previous reviews (or to correct errors in previous annual bibliographies), and authors of several sections have also included citations for recent (2016 and 2017) publications.
