News Release News Release Under embargo until October 19, 2018, 10:30 a.m. Grand Prix Ski-Doo de Valcourt: reaching beyond borders The Government of Canada awards more than $156,000 in funding over three years to this winter sporting event October 19, 2018 – Valcourt, Quebec – Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) Pierre Breton, Member of Parliament for Shefford, acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, announced that Gestion G.P.V. would receive $156,375 in financial assistance, in the form of a non- repayable contribution, to support the hosting of the Grand Prix Ski-Doo de Valcourt in 2019, 2020 and 2021, as well as the implementation of marketing activities focusing primarily on Ontario and the United States. The Grand Prix Ski-Doo de Valcourt (GPSV) attracts many tourists during the winter months. Tourist accommodation establishments and nearby businesses benefit from this event: according to the 2018 visitor study, the event generated an estimated $6.5M in economic spinoff for the Eastern Townships region. The funding, awarded through CED’s Quebec Economic Development Program, will be used to implement a marketing strategy outside of Quebec, which will include creating promotional tools, signing agreements with sports associations and conducting visitor and media reach studies. High-level sporting events are an excellent opportunity to diversify both the national and regional economies. The Government of Canada’s support for cultural, touristic and sporting events is an effective way to generate substantial economic and media benefits in the regions where these events are hosted. The next Grand Prix Ski-Doo de Valcourt will be held on February 8, 9 and 10, 2019. Quotes “This financial assistance is a great example of the Government of Canada’s support for growth-generating initiatives. We are proud to support an event like the Grand Prix Ski-Doo de Valcourt, which contributes to the vitality of the region as a whole. Thanks to this event, many business owners enjoy significant economic benefits, which promote the creation and strengthening of many jobs.” Pierre Breton, Member of Parliament for Shefford “CED’s financial support will help this event attract even more visitors and strengthen the positioning of the region’s tourism industry. Through this support, the Government of Canada is reaffirming its commitment to promoting Quebec’s tourism regions and supporting their outreach, which has a positive impact on the local economy.” The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister responsible for CED “The whole team works tirelessly and passionately to make the GPSV the top winter racing event in the world. It is an integral part of the community’s fabric, and it makes us proud. We are pleased to be able to count on partners like the Government of Canada to help us take our great adventure even further.” Véronique Lizotte, Executive Director, Grand Prix Ski-Doo de Valcourt Quick facts CED is one of the six regional development agencies under the responsibility of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development. The year 2018 marks the 50th anniversary of federal regional economic development in Quebec: half a century of concrete action dedicated to the development of the regions and local businesses. • For Hurried Caregivers
Handy Resources FOR HURRIED CAREGIVERS Guide for CAREGIVERS OF SENIORS IN THE ESTRIE REGION Acknowledgments The Table de concertation des aînés de l’Estrie (regional roundtable on seniors) is proud to present caregivers in Estrie with this directory, which should serve as a handy guide for a long time to come. The roundtable would like to thank all those who contributed in so many ways to developing this guide for the benefit of caregivers. Many thanks, in particular, to all those who have taken part in our Advisory Committee, namely France Lebrun, Caroline Giguère, Geneviève Côté, Jacinthe Garant, Marie-Ève Nadeau, Marie-Pierre Laurent, Michel Couillard, Sylvia Wheeler, Julie Grenier, Ginette Mercier, Christine Meunier and Louise Tremblay. Thank you for your continued dedication throughout the process. Special thanks go to the one hundred or so consulted caregivers who provided us with insight into the various dimensions of the guide’s production. We would also like to thank our project leaders Micheline Bouchard and Géraldine Lansiaux, as well as Fanie Lebrun, who supported the project during the leadership transition period. This guide was produced with the financial participation of L’APPUI pour les proches aidants d’aînés de l’Estrie and the region’s seven territorial roundtables on seniors. Background This regional guide for caregivers of seniors is the result of regional coordination between organizations that provide services to caregivers, on one hand, and the region’s roundtables on seniors, on the other. Over the years, guides have been produced in a number of Estrie’s MRCs, but none had comprehensively covered the services available throughout the region.

  • 230/25-Kv Bonsecours Substation and 230-Kv Supply Line – Spring 2019
Hydro-Québec PUBLIC CONSULTATION Spring 2019 230/25-kV Bonsecours Substation and 230-kV Supply Line The 49-kilovolt (kV) system that currently supplies power to the Estrie region, which was built in the 1940s by the Southern Canada Power Company, has reached maximum capacity. Hydro-Québec is in the process of finalizing its plan to convert this system, which began with the commissioning of the new 120/25-kV Adamsville substation in Bromont in 2016. Given the significant increase in the number of requests from new customers over the past year, Hydro-Québec has decided to begin developing, as of now, a 230-kV system to ensure it can meet the region’s long-term needs. The plan includes constructing a 230/25-kV substation between the existing Lawrenceville and Valcourt substations, to be connected to the grid with a 230-kV supply line that will run roughly 20 km from the new substation to Stukely substation in Stukely-Sud. The equipment will initially operate at 120 kV. Subsequently, the 49-kV Lawrenceville and Valcourt substations will be dismantled, along with some sections of the existing 49-kV lines. The project will also require: • Modifications to the distribution system to connect customers in the region to the new substation, including the conversion of Bombardier Recreational Products’ (BRP) 25-kV facilities. • Related work at Stukely substation. • Conversion of an existing 120-kV line (Cleveland–Waterloo line) to 230 kV in the neighboring regional county municipalities (MRCs) of Brome-Missisquoi and La Haute-Yamaska. Substation similar to future Bonsecours substation Study area The study area covers 143 km2 and includes five municipalities in the Val-Saint-François MRC: the city of Valcourt, the township municipality of Valcourt, Lawrenceville, Bonsecours and Sainte-Anne-de-la-Rochelle; and two municipalities in the Memphrémagog MRC: Stukely-Sud and Eastman.
