Boa feira e bons negócios a todos!!! 4 | Mensagem de Boas Vindas Welcome Message Economy is growing again We all know the past few years were extremely challenging and there were many difficulties in national economy, with broad consequences to all industries. However, we also know Brazil still has potential to grow and that major players in the foreign trade see this potential as an opportunity to grow in the future; they are just waiting for economy to restore so our actual potential can be seen on the whole. We know that soon the worst will be gone and that our recovery is about to begin. This year we should start seeing the first signs of economic growth and all the industries working with national and foreign trade and the companies that, even during recession, kept investing in their businesses, innovation and that were capable of adjusting to changes will jump ahead, gaining competitive edge that will give them strength. These companies that chose to resist and expanded their range of products and services, betting on technological innovations and the modernization of their products, will expand their networking and be closer to their clients and shipbuilders. Therefore, they shall overcome hurdles more easily. Intermodal South America gathers this year these national and foreign companies, representing the entire foreign commerce, logistics and cargo transportation chain. Just like these companies, Intermodal restates its commitment with this industry, which means so much for the economy of the country and reaffirms its position as the main business platform for the industry in Latin America. The market has changed and will keep changing. That is why Intermodal will go on as the most important show in the segment, preparing for changes and challenges, and taking what is most modern in the industry to the major players. In this edition the professionals can exclusively check at the event conferences and lectures addressing the main current issues, such as multimodality and logistic cost reduction, products and investments to handle logistic gaps and technological trends for logistics. The major players from the industry will be there. • The Improvement of a Logistics Concept
Master Thesis Div. of Engineering Logistics Lund Institute of Technology Lund, Sweden 2005 Tutor Everth Larsson The improvement of a logistics concept Evaluation and development of Schenker’s strategic customer relations Anders Rökaas, I-99 [email protected] Preface This master thesis, written during the summer and autumn of 2005, marks the end of my years at Lund Institute of Technology. Even so, most of the work has been performed in Gothenburg, at Schenker’s SCM Headquarters. For this I send my thanks to Schenker and its personnel, since they are the ones who have made room for me, even though I some- times have found it hard to explain what it is I do, and thereby justifying my work. I hope that the core of the thesis – to improve the SCM Concept, Schenker’s tool for developing relationships with the biggest customers – will be fully explained in this report so that some light can be shed on the mystery. When I began writing this thesis, my hope was to learn as much as possible about Schenker and the logistics market, and to help Schenker become a better logistics partner. This, I feel I have achieved, although it is hard to know to what extent at this early stage. I particularly want to thank Anneli Jigberg and Mats Fransson, two great persons who have been my co-workers and mentors during my time with Schenker. Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and explain to me what I did not understand – without you, this thesis would have been shorter, less interesting, and so much less rewarding to write.
