MESSAGE FROM THE EOC PRESIDENT

Dear colleagues, When we gather in Vienna on 18-19 May for the 40th EOC Seminar, we hope you will notice some exciting new improvements in the way we have structured and organised the event.

The topics will remain those of utmost importance to the European National Olympic Committees and sport in general around our continent, but we are continuing to take measures to improve the way we deliver them and to encourage a much livelier and more interactive atmosphere so we can make the most out of each other’s knowledge and insight.

To avoid a one-way information flow, we will implement even more informal panel discussions on a range of important themes. This year’s topics will include the European Model of Sport and its Value for Civil Society and Social Integration; Working Towards a Gender Balanced Future; High Performance and New Technologies in European Sport; the Future of Commercialisation in Sport; and the Growth of Urban Sports – Opportunity and Innovation.

We are confident you will find a great deal that you can take away from these discussions that you will hopefully be able to implement in your own countries and organisations.

Our list of speakers reads like a who’s who of global sports leaders, and we thank each and every one of them for taking part.

In keeping with our commitment to gender equality in sport, we have an unparalleled group of female sports administrators who will present at the event, including IOC Executive Board Member/ANOC Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg and IOC Member/EOC Executive Committee Member and President of the NOC of Lithuania Daina Gudzinevičiūtė.

Other notable speakers include ASOIF President Francesco Ricci Bitti and ARISF/GAISF President Raffaele Chiulli, while the International Olympic Committee will also be represented by Pere Miró, IOC Deputy Director General for Relations with the Olympic Movement; James Macleod, IOC Director of the NOC Relations Department and Olympic Solidarity; and IOC Legal Director Anne van Ysendyck. A host of other influential speakers from around Europe will round out the panel discussions.

We ask, as always, for your valuable input during these discussions and Q&A sessions to add even greater value to the seminar.

Finally, I would like to thank our friends at the Austrian NOC for agreeing to host this year’s seminar on short notice. They have worked tirelessly to make sure the event is a successful one, and as a result of their commitment and expertise, I have no doubt it will be.

I look forward to seeing you all in Vienna.

Best regards, Janez Kocijančič EOC President
