Development of the Kangaroo Island South Coast Loop and North Coast Loop as primary regional tourism routes, suitably signposted and promoted, and connected via the Sealink Ferry and the Fleurieu Way to Adelaide and Melbourne. -

The Federal Redistribution 2011 South Australia Public Objection Number 1 The Barossa Council 3 pages 2011 proposed Redistribution of South Australia into Electoral Divisions Submission- The Barossa Council Summary By way of background, The Barossa Council is one of the largest regional local government authorities in South Australia, covering the internationally renowned Barossa wine region. The Commonwealth Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade recognise the importance of the Barossa region by specifically referring to it on their website (http://www.dfat.gov.au/facts/wine.html) when. providing an overview of the importance of the wine sector in Australia: ' Wine grape growing and winemaking are carried out in each of the six states and two mainland territories of Australia. The principal production areas are located in the south-east quarter of the Australian continent, in the states of South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria. Wineries in South Australia's Barossa Valley, in the Hunter River region north of Sydney in New South Wales and in Victoria played a major role in the development of the industry and continue to be important sources of fine wines. In South Australia, wine contributes around 11% of the state's Gross State product, contributing around $2.4 billion to the state's economy. In 2009/10, the Barossa region contributed $85 million {20%) in production value to the state's total wine value. To add further to its 'credentials', the Barossa has recently been acknowledged by an international wine magazine as one of the 5 most recognised wine regions in the world, and this is supported by the busiest Visitor Information Centre in regional South Australia. -

MURRAY AND MALLEE LOCAL GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL REPORT - 2003/2004. Comprising – The Berri Barmera Council; Coorong District Council; District Council of Karoonda East Murray; District Council of Loxton Waikerie; Mid Murray Council; The Rural City of Murray Bridge; Renmark Paringa Council; and Southern Mallee District Council. 2 PRESIDENT’S ANNUAL REPORT. Having been given the honour of being the President of the Murray & Mallee Local Government Association (M&MLGA) in June 2003, I would like to say a big thank you to those who served before me. The previous Mayor of Loxton-Waikerie, Jan Cass did a lot of work in her role as President of the M&MLGA and I would like to acknowledge her great contribution to our organization. We have been kept busy on the M&MLGA front with bimonthly meetings held in our Region that have been well supported by the member councils and we have enjoyed great communications from our LGA Executive. One of the main topics lately has been the Natural Resource Management Bill. We are all waiting to find out how it will all work and the input from State Executive has been great. Thank you. Ken Coventry has continued to serve the M&MLGA well as he organises all our guest speakers and represents us on a lot of other committees. He has, however, now indicated he wishes to retire as Chief Executive Officer of the M&MLGA and will stay in place until we appoint a new CEO. On behalf of the M&MLGA I would like to say a big thank you to Ken for his untiring work and dedication to his duty and he will be sorely missed. -

Feedback to the Coober Pedy Regional Times strongly suggests that abuses of public office, including the potential targetting of individuals would continue from inside local government settings along with ongoing difficulties navigating the coloured tape of bureaucracy for residents choosing to lodge their concerns with the OPI. Many residents are elderly, ethnic, or/and have low literacy levels with no access to assistance with lodging genuine complaints or concerns. This failure in our system could equate to severe frustration, even torture for some individuals who are deserving of a peaceful retirement or similar. The growing lack of accountability in public office, along with the potential for facing cross agency collusion and other conflicts of interest, amongst the remedies, killed community confidence by the end of the evening. Mr. Wayne Lines was a legal practitioner for 25 years. Work Cover Ombudsman, and worked for the Solicitor General before being appointed State Ombudsman 5 years ago. Clair Booth investigator accompanied Wayne Lines. Mr. Lines acknowledged Coober Pedy's sad history with it's council and acknowledged that the community is still greiving over some of the issues.
