  • Newsletter 8, December 2014
Newsletter 8, December 2014 Mark Dempster, Mathematics From the Principal... Peter Splitek, Coordinator Science It is hard to believe that the 2014 school year is over. Reflecting back, I am extremely pleased with the achievements of our students. Our Year 8-11 Awards Ceremony highlighted our students’ incredible commitment to achieve outstanding results. It also highlighted how community minded our students are with a huge number winning awards for school service. While the year was coming to an end for senior students, Year 8 and 9 students continued working hard to prepare for their important end of year presentations. The Year 8 Show Case held in the George Cresswell Hall on Tuesday 9 December 2014 was extremely successful Rob Handley, Mathematics with over 90% of parents attending their child's presentation. Many parents commented on Daphne White, Home Economics what a wonderful experience it was for them to listen to their child discussing their learning and the highlights of their year. Similarly, the Year 9 Presentations were outstanding and displayed the huge array of challenging activities students participate in during the year. Every year our teachers work extremely hard to support students by delivering high quality learning experiences. In Week 7 this term, staff from all Learning Areas shared the work of their Professional Learning Team (PLT) with their colleages; what they have achieved and what their next steps will be in 2015. The PLTs further highlight our teachers’ commitment Karin Wichmann, LOTE Teacher John McKenzie, HASS Teacher to continue to learn together and find new and exciting ways to engage and support our students to achieve their absolute best.

PowerHealth e-Newsletter - Q2 2018 PowerHealth Leverage Leverage: to use (something) to maximum advantage Using Big Data to Improve Patient Experience Big data represents a rich resource with the potential to improve care, but for many this asset is being underutilised. Recently, Harvard Business Review compared hospitals to airlines and the operational complexities to keep costs low and create a decent profit. They explained how "used correctly, analytics tools can lower health care costs, reduce wait times, increase patient access, and unlock capacity with the infrastructure that’s already in place". It’s a great read to understand how to leverage your data asset. READ MORE... Benchmarking Efficiency Leverage: this month we want to highlight this very word by sharing some recent results from our Benchmarking Efficiency Group. An efficiency review project was conducted on a specific Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) within the W&C division of a large healthcare organisation. The purpose of the review was to explore how a Local Health Network (LHN) was performing against the National Efficient Price (NEP), with a view to discovering which drivers resulted in services being delivered above the NEP and identifying opportunities for improvement. Drilling down into the data via a process of analysis, alignment of costs, education and audit achieved a 1.1M turnaround for the DRG group through the identification of coding issues (revenue lost) and improved expenditure. Ask us about Benchmarking... PowerHealth News PowerHealth Named 2018 Telstra Business Awards Finalist We are thrilled and privileged to have been selected as a Finalist in the 'Medium and Making Waves' category of this year's Telstra Business Awards, for which, over 10,000 entries were received.

Feedback to the Coober Pedy Regional Times strongly suggests that abuses of public office, including the potential targetting of individuals would continue from inside local government settings along with ongoing difficulties navigating the coloured tape of bureaucracy for residents choosing to lodge their concerns with the OPI. Many residents are elderly, ethnic, or/and have low literacy levels with no access to assistance with lodging genuine complaints or concerns. This failure in our system could equate to severe frustration, even torture for some individuals who are deserving of a peaceful retirement or similar. The growing lack of accountability in public office, along with the potential for facing cross agency collusion and other conflicts of interest, amongst the remedies, killed community confidence by the end of the evening. Mr. Wayne Lines was a legal practitioner for 25 years. Work Cover Ombudsman, and worked for the Solicitor General before being appointed State Ombudsman 5 years ago. Clair Booth investigator accompanied Wayne Lines. Mr. Lines acknowledged Coober Pedy's sad history with it's council and acknowledged that the community is still greiving over some of the issues. South Australian Ombudsman Mr. Wayne Lines at TAFE in Coober Pedy with DCCP Administrator The Ombudsman encouraged residents to keep engaging Mr.
