Clay workshop for 5,000 members of the public. Event organising for the 3 day festival at Jalan Bahar. 2012: Curtin University, Doctorate of Creative Arts Doctoral Thesis titled: Arts in a Knowledge-based Economy: Activist Strategies in Singapore's Renaissance. The topic of this thesis observes the response by the Singaporean arts community to sudden and dramatic changes in government planning policy, in particular, the Renaissance City Plan (RCP), introduced in 2000. This thesis argues that community-led cultural development are important for building a vibrant art scene and cultural development should not be left entirely up to government cultural planners. 2011 – Present Community Service Maintain an interest in the development of civil society movements in Singapore. Co-founded SOS Bukit Brown and involved with the campaign to preserve Bukit Brown Cemetery. Co-founded The Soup Kitchen Project Singapore programme which distributes food once a week to the needy in Little India area. 2010 – 2011 Member of the Acquisition Committee The National Gallery of Singapore Advise on acquisition of works. 2007 - Present: Founded Post-Museum Managed and operated an independent cultural and social space in Singapore, serving as an open platform for examining contemporary life, promoting the arts and connecting people. Managed and operated an art project / Restaurant / Bar called Food #03. As of mid-Aug 2011, Post-Museum has moved out of its Rowell Rd premises and is currently nomadic. By playfully asking what makes a work of art “classic” or “contemporary” — or “classic contemporary” — this accessible and quirky exhibition aims to introduce new audiences to the ideas and art forms of contemporary art. A stellar cast of painting, sculpture, video, photography and performance art from across Southeast Asia are brought together and given the red-carpet treatment, and the whole of the SAM 8Q building is transformed into a dramatic stage for these stars and icons. Yet beneath the glamour, many of the artworks also probe and prod serious issues — often asking critical and challenging questions about society, nation and the history of art itself. Since its inception in 1996, SAM has focused on collecting the works of artists practicing in the region, and many of these once-emerging artists have since established notable achievements on regional and international platforms.     NET PRESENT VALUE: ART, CAPITAL, FUTURES 12 – 15 JAN 2017 A programme by Art Stage Singapore SOUTHEAST ASIA FORUM 2017 NET PRESENT VALUE: ART, CAPITAL, FUTURES By Nadia Ng The late Joseph Beuys (1921–1986) believed in the imaginative potential in each individual and in the power of art to radically transform everyday society. He saw capital as “human dignity and creativity” and championed the importance of developing “a concept of money that allows creativity, or art, so to speak, to be capital.” Thirty years after Beuys’ death, in the age of finance, we reflect on what ‘capital’ means today in relationship to art, society and the present future. ‘Net Present Value’ is a method commonly used to forecast the profitability of future returns on investments made today. Simply put, it is a future value expressed in today’s terms. The second Southeast Asia Forum seeks to explore the values of art, imagination and progress, and, the price of doing business as usual in the global capitalist system. It examines relationships between money, ideals and some of the fault lines in the present financial age, including the Forum’s immediate sphere of influence — the art market and the value of creativity. The Forum’s exhibition surveys impacts of economic development on governance, cultures, beliefs, social relations and daily life, focusing on the milieu of Southeast Asia, as countries race to establish their place in the league of global economies. Through the works of socially engaged artists, most of whom are from the region, the exhibition emphasises the importance of cultivating alternative forms of capital and conditions for the evolution of societies in an increasingly complex global environment.
