The Parishes of

Twenty-nineth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 18, 2020

Around 3,000 people showed up to his beatification at the Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi! In his homily for Carlo’s beatification, Cardinal Agostino Vallini had said, “He was an ordinary boy, simple, spontaneous, likeable 4 he loved nature and animals, he played football, he had many friends of his age, he was attracted by modern means of social communication, passionate about computer science, and, self- taught, he built websites to transmit the Gospel, to communicate values and beauty.” He was also a gamer! A friend recalls times they would get together to play games such as Halo, but his mom said that his clear favorites were Super Mario Brothers and Pokémon. Blessed Carlo had once said, “When we face the sun we get a tan ... but when we stand before Jesus in the Eucharist we become saints.”

His body was on display for veneration from October 1-17. The annual celebration of his feast has been marked for October 12th. (source: ncregister.com)

Shortly after his death, people had received miracles of healing through his intercession. Blessed , pray for us!

Faith and Friends (Young Adults)

All young adults are invited to join us next Thursday, October 22nd, for an opportunity for us to gather together in the faith and to lift one another up in intercessory prayer. We will be meeting at Hamlin Pub at 7 PM. Please come and join us for an opportunity of fellowship and prayer.

Prayers for our Nation

As we draw ever closer to the date of the election, we will be having opportunities of prayer together. I encourage you to participate in them with us as more details become available. Please be sure to check our parish website for the most up to date information. In the interim, consider praying the “Golden Arrow” prayer. Sr. Mary of St. Peter, a Carmelite nun who lived in the 19th century in France, had received a series of private revelations concerning the devotion to the Holy Face of Blessed Carlo Acutis Jesus. This was given to us that we may make reparation for the blasphemies and outrages of “revolutionary men” (i.e. This past Saturday, the Church beatified Carlo Acutis communists) as well as blasphemies made by all, believers from Assisi! RECLAIMING SUNDAY, THE LORD’S DAY!!!

The Pharisees went off and plotted how they might entrap Jesus in speech. They sent their disciples to him, with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. And you are not concerned with anyone's opinion, for you do not regard a person's status. Tell us, then, what is your opinion: Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?" Knowing their malice, Jesus said, “Why are you testing me, you hypocrites? Show me the coin that pays the census tax." Then they handed him the Roman coin. He said to them, “Whose image is this and whose inscription?" They replied, “Caesar's.” At that he said to them, “Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God." TAKE TIME TO CHAT What is meant by “repay to God what belongs to God?" What exactly belongs to God? What are some gifts that God has given to you, and what are some ways you can serve Him? FAMILY FUN Make a Scarecrow Learning how to make a scarecrow is pretty easy and fun for all ages! Scarecrows are ideal as fall decorating ideas and can add a festive feeling to your autumn porch. Search the Internet for material lists and instructions. Go to a local goodwill store to get overalls, flannel shirts, or other clothes for the scarecrow. Collect the rest of the materials you need and have fun!

On Sunday, November 22nd, the Feast of Christ the King, Vigneron will preside at a special Confirmation liturgy for any adult who has not yet received the Sacrament. Those who would like to be prepared for the Sacrament are invited for a five-week course of instruction to be held on Monday evenings beginning October 19th. There is no charge to participate, but you must pre-register. Please contact Susan Finley in the Faith Formation Office to enroll.
