  • Cities #Withrefugees Statement
Please consider signing the Cities #WithRefugees solidarity statement. Launched in advance of World Refugee Day (June 20) in 2018, the Cities #WithRefugees initiative has brought together more than 125 cities in 41 countries in a call for more local authorities and municipalities to join them in welcoming and including refugees in their communities. Cities can continue to sign onto the document here to send a strong message of global grass roots solidarity for families forced to flee. Cities #WithRefugees Statement We, mayors and local authorities from around the world, stand #WithRefugees. The role of towns, cities, counties and provinces in creating inclusive communities and promoting hope has never been as important. Today, over 25 million people worldwide are living outside their countries to escape violence and persecution. Refugees leave nearly everything behind to seek safety: their homes, their jobs, and sometimes even their families. Despite the unimaginable sacrifices refugees make to find safety, many keep their hopes and dreams for the future. Refugees’ will to survive and their drive to help their families and communities prosper are not easily extinguished by adversity. When refugees arrive to a new country, nearly two out of three settle in an urban area. As cities, we are undeniably at the forefront of refugee crises, and our communities benefit from their tenacity and courage. Welcoming refugees creates opportunities for economic, civic and social growth. The diversity of experiences and ideas refugees bring spurs creativity and innovation. For example, both Albert Einstein and Sergey Brin were refugees. Their contributions did not just change our communities; they changed the course of human history.

  • Bulletin #123
Bulletin No.: 123 Tuesday, 07 March 2017 GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Mt.6:7-15) The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, Jesus said to his disciples, “In praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him. This is how you are to pray: “Our Father in heaven hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, you will be done, on earth as I heaven. Give us today our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and do not subject us to the final test, but deliver us from the evil one. If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive your transgressions.” Reflection: “This is how you are to pray.” Jesus taught his disciples how to pray, how to speak to a God so great that we as people are seemingly insignificant in his sight. Yet, Jesus, called Jesus, “Abba”, Daddy or perhaps if he was Tagalog, he would have said “Itay”. God is great and we are seemingly insignificant on his sight, yet, God’s live for us is so great that he asks us ton call him “Itay”, for each and everyone of us is not insignificant to God. Each and every one of us is loved by God, a Father who cares for His children. As one Lasallian community of disciples of Jesus, we are children of God; let us treat each with that same love that God has shown us.

  • Bulletin #124
Bulletin No.: 124 Wednesday, 08 March 2017 GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Lk.11:29-32) The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, While still more people gathered in the crowd, Jesus said to them, “This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it, except the sign of Jonah. Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation. At the judgement the queen of the south will rise with the men of this generation and she will condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and there is something greater than Solomon here. At the judgment the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation and condemn it, because at the preaching of Jonah they repented, and there is something greater than Jonah here.” Reflections: The people of Jesus time were looking for a sign from God that God still loved them. Jesus did not give any sign except a sign that they should turn away from their sins and remember the Gospel. Just as Jonah preached repentance to the people of Nineveh. In our lives also in this time, many of us also seek signs that God still cares and loves us. Yet, it is the sign of Jesus, God becoming man and offer his very life for us is the sign which we shall receive. It is in giving of yourselves for the love of others and God that this sign shall truly till your life with happiness and joy.

  • LOCAL GOVERNMENT RECORDS and PRACTICES Iyra S
JOURNAL OF PHILIPPINE LIBRARIANSHIP PRESERVING THE POSTWAR ARCHIVES HERITAGE AND COLLECTIVE MEMORY OF BULACAN: LOCAL GOVERNMENT RECORDS AND PRACTICES Iyra S. Buenrostro Abstract Presents the condition of the local government records and archives of the local governments of Malolos, Meycauayan and San Jose Del Monde in Bulacan. Discusses the approaches of these local governments in controlling local goventment records using the records continuum concept. Alongside the evolution of physical carriers and media in which information is recorded, is the development of thought as regards the theory and practice of Archival Science. Archival Science is seen as a discipline that originated from and is closely related to the field of historical sciences, in which documents are treated as traces of the past and are supposedly preserved and appreciated as part of society’s heritage (Cardin, 2000). Thus, it is clear that archives play a vital role in building collective memory and identity both in the micro and macro level of society; and this “memory” should be accessible and be transmitted to future generations. Theories and principles central to archival practices, as well as the standards set for the preservation of archives heritage have been laid for the archivists worldwide to follow and guarantee that there are enough and properly preserved representative records. Numerous texts on archival practices have been published by different archives theorists and archives organizations, including the collaborative efforts of the International Council on Archives (ICA) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The UNESCO has launched the Memory of the World Programme that aims to preserve and disseminate the archives and library holdings worldwide.
