MOST GAMES, MONTH 17 March 2021 16 April 2021 16 March 2017 16 March 2012 16 March 2004 16 January 2004 16 March 2003

50 WAYS TO LEAVE YOUR LOVER The Avalanche have tied their franchise record for the fewest number of games to reach 50 points in a season (35). The 2000-01 Avs and 1994-95 Nordiques also reached the 50-point mark in their 35th contest.

JOONAS DON-SCORE Joonas Donskoi on Wednesday recorded the fastest hat trick to start a game in franchise history, lighting the lamp three times in the opening 7:31 of the first period. The previous mark was 15:46 set by 's Alain Cote on April 1, 1982 at Boston. Donskoi's three goals came 3:27 apart, marking the second-fastest hat trick in franchise history. Cote's hat trick was in 2:17 during that April 1, 1982 affair. It was the second career hat trick for Donskoi and he became the first Colorado player to score three goals in a period since Tomas Fleischmann on Dec. 15, 2010 at Chicago (3rd).

BOTH ENDS OF THE ICE The Avalanche leads the NHL in goals for per game (3.63) and goals against per game (2.26). Colorado also leads the league in goal differential at +47. Nine different Colorado skaters have at least 20 points (most in NHL) and six have 10+ goals (tied for first). Colorado has tallied at least once in 29 of its last 32 periods, which included a franchise-record streak of 20 consecutive periods with a goal from March 12-23. The Avs have out-scored their opponents 41-15 in the last eight games and 55-20 in the last 11. Colorado is the only team with three 8+ goal games and six 6+ goal performances in 2020-21.

FEELING GRU-BI Grubauer leads the NHL in wins (22-tied) and shutouts (5) and among netminders who have appeared in at least 10 games ranks first in GAA (1.78) and third in Sv% (.928). He has appeared in a league-high 30 games and is tied for first in starts (29). Grubi's 22 wins and five shutouts are both career bests. He picked up his 20th victory of the year on March 25, becoming the fastest goaltender in franchise history to reach 20 wins in a season (27th game). Grubauer had a career-high, eight-game winning streak from March 10-25, allowing one or fewer goals in all eight appearances (seven starts). He became the first NHL goaltender to go eight-plus decisions without allowing more than one goal since John Vanbiesbrouck in 1991-92 (eight). Grubi recorded his 100th NHL victory on March 29, joining Thomas Greiss (139) as the only German-born netminders to reach 100 and joining Greiss and Olie Kolzig (303) as the only Germans to hit the century mark (Kolzig was born in South Africa). Grubi's current 11-game point streak (10-0-1) is the longest by an Avs netminder since 2013-14 (Semyon Varlamov, 11-0-5).

HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT Colorado ranks first in the NHL in shots-per-game (35.3) and shots-against-per-game (25.1). The last NHL team to lead the league in both was the 2009-10 Blackhawks. The Avs pace the NHL in shot differential (+357), far ahead of the next closest team (Boston +181). They are out-shooting the opposition by an average of 10.2 shots per night, also by far the best. Colorado has out-shot the opposition in 28 of its 35 contests this season (most in NHL). The Avs own a 20-6-2 record when holding an edge in shots, the most wins of any club. They have out-shot their foes 482-289 (+193) during this 12-game point streak and 517-303 (+214) over the last 13 contests.

MARCH MADNESS Mikko Rantanen led the league in both points (25) and goals (13) in March, while Gabriel Landeskog finished second in points (24).

ALL HAIL CALE Cale Makar leads all defensemen in points/game (0.96) and his 0.90 career points/game average is the sixth-highest by a blueliner in history behind only Bobby Orr (1.39), Harry Cameron (1.10), Paul Coffey (1.09), Denis Potvin (0.99) and Ray Bourque (0.98). Makar, who had three helpers on Monday, required the fewest games (79) by a defenseman in NHL history to record five career outings with three or more assists. Cale surpassed the 70-point career mark on Monday, becoming the seventh-fastest blueliner (79 GP) to do so behind Mark Howe (61), Cameron (66), Brian Leetch (69), Larry Murphy (73), Sprague Cleghorn (75) and Phil Housley (78).

FIRST OF ALL The Avs have scored the first goal of the game 25 times, the most of any team. Colorado is 20-3-2 when scoring first, the most wins in the NHL.

SOMETHING SPECIAL The Avalanche's PK unit ranks second (87.0%) and power play 10th (23.6). The PK has allowed just four PPG in the last 12 games (35/39, 89.7%), while the PP unit has gone 9-30 (30%) in the last nine. Colorado is 17-4-2 when shutting out the opposition's power play and 15-5-2 when scoring a PPG.
