TODAY'S GAME COLORADO at ST. LOUIS 1 p.m. MT / 2 p.m. CT NBC / 92.5 The Avalanche takes on the Blues in an afternoon matchup at Enterprise Center. This is the third of four straight here in St. Louis, the first time Colorado/Quebec has ever played four straight road games against the same opponent.

PLAYOFF BOUND The Avalanche have clinched a playoff berth for the fourth straight year, the third-longest run in franchise history. Quebec/Colorado made 11 straight trips to the postseason from 1994-95 to 2005-06 and the Nordiques made seven straight from 1980-87. This will be the 26th postseason appearance in franchise history and 17th since moving to Denver.

QUICK TO CLINCH The Avalanche were the second NHL team to clinch this season, one night after Vegas (although Colorado did it in two fewer games). The Avs clinched a playoff spot with 12 games remaining in the regular season, their most games left when clinching since 2000-01 (13). The Avs have completed 79% of their season (44/56). Only the 1992-93 Nordiques completed less of their season at the time of clinching in franchise history (77%, 65/84).

GRAND OLD TIME The Avalanche have 999 regular-season wins since moving to Denver, one shy of 1,000. Colorado owns a 999-724-101-142 record since relocating. Only five teams have over 1,000 wins during that time span: Detroit (1059), Dallas (1021), Pittsburgh (1019), Washington (1009) and St. Louis (1000).

STAY HOT Colorado has won five straight, is 10-1-0 in its last 11 games, 18-1-2 in its last 21 contests and 22-3-3 in last 28. The Avs posted their best 20-game stretch in franchise history with a 17-1-2 run from March 10–April 14 and tied their best 25-game stretch with a 19-3-3 mark from Feb. 26–April 11. The Avs are 12-0-1 in their last 13 home games and 10-2-1 in their last 13 road contests. Colorado is 8-1-0 in April after finishing a league-best 12-2-3 in March, which set franchise records for wins and points in a month. The Avalanche's eight wins and 16 points are the franchise's most ever in April.

DAYDREAM BELIEVER This is the final scheduled afternoon contest of the season. The Avs are 4-1-1 in day games.

WINNING WAYS Colorado's 66 points are its most through 44 games in franchise history. The Avs were first NHL team to reach 30 wins on April 14, becoming the fastest team to 30 victories in franchise history (43rd game). No Colorado/Quebec club had ever done it in fewer than 47 contests (2013-14 and 2000-01). The last time Colorado was the first NHL team to 30 wins was in 2000-01, when the Avs and Blues both reached 30 on the same day (Jan. 18, 2001). Technically the Blues got there roughly an hour before the Avalanche did. You have to go back to 1996-97 to find the only other time that the Avalanche reached 30 wins before any other team (Jan. 27, 1997). The Avalanche were the first NHL team to reach 60 points on April 11.

ROAD WARRIORS The Avs are 13-5-2 on the road, the best away points percentage (.700) in the NHL as of Friday. The Avs have won a season-high four straight road games and are 10-2-1 in their last 13 away contests. Colorado led the league in road wins (24) and points (50) last season.

HITTING THE "BENCH" MARKS Jared Bednar coached his 360th career NHL game on Thursday, passing Bob Hartley for the most regular-season games coached in Avalanche history (since 1995-96). He now trails only Michel Bergeron (634 with Quebec) for the most games in franchise history. The Avs clinched a playoff berth with Thursday's victory, their fourth consecutive postseason appearance under Bednar. He joined Hartley (1999 to 2002) as the only coaches since the franchise relocated to lead Colorado to four straight playoff berths. Bednar owns a 176-145-39 (.543) career record, ranking second in wins to only Hartley's 193 since the team relocated. Hired on Aug. 25, 2016, Bednar is the sixth-longest tenured head coach in the NHL behind Jon Cooper (3/25/13), Paul Maurice (1/12/14), Jeff Blashill (6/9/15), John Tortorella (10/21/15) and Mike Sullivan (12/12/15).

WEEKEND WARRIORS The Avs are 7-0-0 on Friday and 5-0-2 on Saturday.

SWEET HOME Colorado is 18-4-2 at home (38 points). The Avs have won five straight at Ball Arena, their third different home win streak of five or more games in 2020-21. The last time Colorado had three different five-game win home win steaks in a single season was in 2007-08. The Avs are out-scoring their opponents 92-50 on home ice (+42). Colorado is 12-0-1 in its last 13 at Ball Arena, the fourth longest home point streak in franchise history.

BOTH ENDS OF THE ICE Heading into the weekend, Colorado was leading the NHL in goals-per-game (3.59) and ranked third in goals-against-per-game (2.32). Colorado has a league-high +55 goal differential, the highest through 44 games in franchise history.

HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT Heading into the weekend, Colorado ranked first in the NHL in shots-per-game (34.7) and shots-against-per-game (25.7). The last NHL team to lead the league in both was the 2009-10 Blackhawks. The Avs pace the NHL in shot differential (+397), out-shooting the opposition by an average of nine shots per night. Colorado has out-shot its opponents in 35 of its 44 contests this season (most in NHL) and own a 26-7-2 record when holding an edge in shots, the most wins of any club.

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS The Avs are 12-2-4 in one-goal contests.

ALL HAIL CALE Cale Makar is the only NHL defenseman to average a point-per-game this season. His 0.92 career points/game average is the sixth-highest ever by a blueliner behind Bobby Orr (1.39), Harry Cameron (1.10), Paul Coffey (1.09), Denis Potvin (0.99) and Ray Bourque (0.98).

WHEELING AND DEALING On April 9, the Avalanche acquired Patrik Nemeth from the Red Wings for a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. On April 10, the club acquired Devan Dubnyk from the Sharks in exchange for Greg Pateryn and a fifth-round selection in the 2021 NHL Draft. Then on April 12, the team acquired Carl Soderberg from Chicago in exchange for Ryder Rolston and Josh Dickinson.

HAD TO BE A BIG SHOT Nathan MacKinnon has a shot in 260 consecutive regular-season games, a franchise record and the longest active streak in the NHL.

FIRST OF ALL The Avs have scored the first goal of the game 31 times, the most of any team. Colorado is 26-3-2 when scoring first, the most wins in the NHL.

CROWDED HOUSE Patrik Nemeth on Thursday became the 15th different defenseman to play for Avalanche in 2020-21. The only season in franchise history to feature more was 2010-11 (16). The 15 blueliners this year matches the 1982-83, '89-90, '93-94 Nordiques for the second-most in club history and ties Nashville for most of any team this season.

AVS & BLUES Colorado is 5-1-0 against St. Louis, its most wins ever against the Blues in a single season (previous: 4-0-1 in 1998-99, 4-0-0 in 2005-06 and 2009-10).

SOMETHING SPECIAL Heading into the weekend, the Avalanche ranked among the NHL's top 10 in both power play (7th-23.5%) and penalty killing (9th-82.6%). Only once in the past 15 years has Colorado finished among the top 10 in both categories (2017-18). The Avs are 21-6-2 when scoring a PPG and 20-4-2 when shutting out the opposition's power play.
