This concluding chapter features the futuristic-funk and vocoder- laden 'Dirty Sheets', an enigmatic electro classic that has been become almost impossible to find for collectors. This is followed by the travelling and morphing sounds of 'Lovefix' - a track that is long regarded A2 as one of the greatest electro tracks of the era. As with the rest of the series, the two reissue tracks are featured alongside 2 previously unheard, unreleased productions that were created during the same time period, at the same studio in Tampa, Florida. The first previously unreleased track is 'Nightmoves', a B1 potential future classic. An immediate call to the dancefloor that provides the discerning DJ with something to break through even the most monotonous of sets. The final track of the series is 'Cosmic Glide', a bouncy rhythm with purple, funk-fuelled keys that are equal parts future and past. Nightmoves #3 B2 is last in the series, but by absolutely no means least. www.teamgal.com For Immediate Release: Sam McKinniss Daisy Chain 07 January through 25 February 2018 306 Windward Avenue Team (bungalow) is pleased to announce a show of work by New York-based artist Sam McKinniss. The show, entitled “Daisy Chain”, will run from 07 January through 25 February 2018. The Bungalow is located at 306 Windward Avenue in Venice Beach, California. “I was meant to know the plot, but all I knew was what I saw: flash pictures in variable sequence, images with no ‘meaning’ beyond their temporary arrangement, not a movie but a cutting-room experience.” -- Joan Didion, The White Album, 1979 McKinniss has made a grouping of nine new paintings to be exhibited together under the title “Daisy Chain”. The city of Los Angeles inspired the choice of subjects, although a narrative of innocence and its destruction is the real thread here. The paintings, all intimately scaled, depict movie stars, pop singers, animals, book illustrations, landscapes. These images stitch themselves together, revealing a national obsession with creating, then desecrating, icons of purity. Behind these beatific paintings – a fantasia of greeting card images – lurk cults, suicide, murder and drug addiction. In selecting the images that make up this exhibition, McKinniss has touched upon popular and mass culture, middle and high-brow. In the degree to which a visitor recognizes one or more of these subjects, a shortcut is forged between the painter and his audience, a shortcut that bypasses irony, erases distance and eases the triggering of emotional effects. McKinniss’s choices both limit his audience — “I don’t like Drew Barrymore.” “Who is A$AP Rocky?” — while privileging those who remain, validating the viewer’s own cultural knowledge and enveloping them in a memory of love — “That’s Whitney Houston when she sang the ‘Star Spangled Banner’”. -

Digital Versus Print: Brands Rush to Web, Just Not to Advertise By Lisa Lockwood The WoRlD is oNliNe — yeT fashioN brands are still reluctant to advertise there. ad experts say that even as fashion brands shift more of their marketing spend online, they aren’t clamoring to place their ads on the Web as much as they are using it for e-commerce, blogs, posting news about their brands and building social networks. among the reasons are: • impactful fashion imagery doesn’t translate as well online. • There is too much clutter on the Web and their ads don’t stand out. • it’s debatable whether online fashion ads actually move merch. “look at the initial forms of advertising online — window ads and banner ads, they’re See For, Page12 photo by davide maestri davide photo by 2 WWD, TUESDAY, JUNE 22, 2010 WWD.COM Retailers Buoyed by Strong Father’s Day By Jean E. -
Music for These Post Prince Times: April/May New Album Reviews
Music For These Post Prince Times: April/May New Album Reviews. Music | Bittles’ Magazine: The music column from the end of the world With the sad passing of musical icon Prince this week, it has genuinely been difficult to get excited about new music again. The need to wallow in his legacy was overwhelming, with albums such as Purple Rain, Sign O The Times and 1999 demanding both tears and repeated plays. Yet Prince himself was never one to dwell on the past, or stand still. He constantly strove forward, reinventing himself, and bringing out new material with such regularity that all but the most ardent of fans struggled to keep up. By JOHN BITTLES With this in mind I tore myself away from the umpteenth listen to Controversy to immerse myself in the mountain of new music which had been sent my way. Among the twenty five albums reviewed in the following we have the skewed indie funk of Suuns and Luh, deep house dopeness from Stimming, DJ Koze’s Pampa Records and Sieren, booty shaking electro from Egyptian Lover, the techno textures of Juan Atkins & Moritz Von Oswald and Lucy, the spacious electronica of CocaineJesus, and tons more. So without further ado, let us begin… Montreal band Suuns have long approached the rigid confines of rock music a little differently to most. Hence new album Hold/Still sounds like no other guitar album you will hear this year! Across eleven dense, intelligent, yet surprisingly subtle tracks the band create a rich and varied aural kaleidoscope to produce what may just be their best album yet. -
