It is to be noted that more than 7 lakh registered Mosques, Eidgah, Imambada, Dargah and other religious, social institutions come under the state waqf boards across the country. Central Waqf Council is the regulatory body of state waqf boards in India. On the occasion, Shri Naqvi said that we should cooperate with health workers, security forces, administrative officers, sanitation workers; they are working for our safety and well- being even by putting their own life at risk in this Corona pandemic. We should also demolish rumours and misinformation being spread about quarantine and isolation centres by creating awareness among the people that such centres are only meant to protect the people, their families and the society from the Corona pandemic. Shri Naqvi told all the state waqf boards and religious and social organizations that we should remain cautious of any type of fake news and conspiracies aimed at creating misinformation. The authorities have been working for safety and well-being of all citizens of the country without any discrimination. Such type of rumours and conspiracies are nefarious design to weaken the fight against Corona. Senior We should work united to win this fight against Corona by defeating any type of rumour, misinformation and conspiracy. Shri Naqvi asked the officials of all the state waqf boards to play an active and effective role to ensure that the people follow the guidelines of the Union Home Ministry, State Governments and the Central Waqf Council strictly and honestly while fulfilling religious responsibilities during the holy month of Ramadan staying inside their home. Shri Naqvi said that in view of the challenges of Corona pandemic, all the religious-social activities and mass gathering in all the temples, gurudwaras, churches and other religious & social places of the country have been stopped. Similarly, any mass gathering in all mosques and other Muslim religious places of the country has also been stopped. Shri Naqvi said that due to the Corona pandemic, the religious leaders and religious and social organizations from all regions of the country, have appealed to the people to offer prayers and perform all other religious rituals staying inside their home during the holy month of Ramadan and strictly follow the guidelines of lockdown and social distancing. Most of the Muslim nations of the world have also banned mass gathering at mosques and other religious places during the holy month of Ramadan. Shri Naqvi said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, in cooperation with all the State Governments, has been working effectively for safety and well-being of the people. The cooperation of the people has brought great relief to India in the war against Corona. But still several challenges are there before the country.     Rachel Hirsch Aga Khan Program Travel Grant Award 2019 Travel Report 22 April 2020 Thesis Abstract In 1601, Emperor Akbar successfully conquered Burhanpur, a major Sufi center and capital of the Khandesh Sultanate. A decades-long process of urban construction followed, transforming the city into a regional capital on the frontier of the Mughal Empire. However, the twenty-first-century challenges of reconstructing the seventeenth-century city have largely obscured Burhanpur’s significance, and isolated attempts at textual analysis or conservation fieldwork have provided only partial understandings of the city’s history. Responding to these challenges, this thesis proposes a method that privileges the experiential elements of understanding a city—whether gathered from textual accounts, personal observation, or visual evidence—and posits them within a larger discourse of travel and place formation. From this method emerges a reconstruction of a new Mughal capital that was built in a series of spatial and architectural developments carried out between 1601 and 1631. The function and form of these layers of construction shifted rapidly over the course of three decades based on the needs of the expanding Mughal Empire and the priorities of the individuals sustaining it. Taken together, this thesis reveals a previously unknown process of producing a Mughal capital constituted through successive shifts in patronage that, while varying in their urban priorities, shared the collective goal of creating a legibly Mughal capital. 1 Research Conducted in Madhya Pradesh, India Last winter, I proposed a research project that took as its focus the Mughal city of Burhanpur. Burhanpur is located in the present-day state of Madhya Pradesh, India and was long considered a cultural, religious, economic, and political center.

After going through the draft, we called a meeting with Human Development Society’s director and researcher. Now it is being published with some changes and addition of some information and data. This study is an eye-opener. It tells us that a majority of Muslim graveyards registered with Delhi Waqf Board (DWB) and other agencies has practically disappeared over the years. Both public and government agencies have occupied or encroached upon graveyards, while new land is not being earmarked for new qabristans in town-planning schemes. The study has found that the remaining space in the existing qarbristans is hardly enough for two more years. DMC will approach Govt. of NCT of Delhi and its agencies, especially Delhi Waqf Board and Delhi Development Authority, to quickly solve this grave problem before it is too late.

In the Chishti lineage through Hazrat Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan, there are nine Pirs who are buried in Delhi, and many more whose lives were entwined with Delhi. I have compiled short biographies on these Pirs, and a few others, so that we may have a glimpse into their lives, as a doorway into “meeting” them in the eternal realm of the heart, insha’allah.
