The cycle path leads from the local GERMANY recreation area of the Augsburg forest along the Lech river through Landsberg botanical treasures and the Lech heathlands and passes on the lead by Schongau to the gentle hills of the Pfaffenwinkel nature region all the way to Forggensee, the Füssen bathtub. From Reutte an organised shuttle- Reutte transfer takes you to Fernsteinsee Castle and the cycle path takes you Fern Pass AUSTRIA through the picturesque Gurgltal (Gurgl Valley) and into the Upper Inn Valley. Day 2: Augsburg – Landsberg (approx. 50 km) The place name Augsburg derives from the Roman name of the town “Augusta Vindelicorum”, which was founded in 15 B. C. under the rule of Emperor Augustus. Augsburg’s popularity however, was established with its role as a Fugger town. Therefore, a visit of the Fuggerei, which is the world’s oldest project for social housing still in use today, is almost a must. The stage to Landsberg is thought to be a comfy “run in” on almost flat terrain. Day 3: Landsberg – Schongau region (approx. 45 km) On the horizon you can already see the Alps but you get to enjoy the beauty of the region Pfaffenwinkel first. Schongau features a picturesque old town and almost completely preserved town walls. Day 4: Schongau region – Füssen / Schwangau (approx. 40 km) Having left the old town of Schongau the cycling path along River Lech takes you into the Tyrol. Before heading over the border from Germany to Austria the beautiful fairy tale-like Neuschwanstein castle awaits you. Day 5: Füssen / Schwangau – Imst (approx. 40 km or approx. 70 km without transfer) Today the tour takes us from Füssen to Reutte. From there our transfer brings you across Fern Pass in a comfortable way. From Fernstein castle you cycle past Nassereith and through the picturesque Gurgltal Valley to Imst. A “beery” adventure awaits you at the microbrewery at Starkenberg castle. Day 6: Imst – St. Valentin / Burgusio / Malles (approx. 55 km or approx. 105 km without transfer) After a hearty breakfast you cycle from Imst to Landeck. From there we take the shuttle up to Nauders. Soon afterwards you cross the border to Italy at Reschen Pass and with it the main Alpine ridge. You cycle downwards towards Malles past Reschenstausee reservoir with the sunken church tower of Altgraun, one of the most famous photo motifs of Italy. Enjoy the first evening on South Tyrolean soil and enjoy strolling through the old alleyways of the town. Day 7: St. Valentin / Burgusio / Malles – Merano (approx. 65 km) Today you cross the entire Val Venosta. The route leads from an altitude of more than 1,000 m down to the town of Merano that is located at an altitude of 350 m. Most of the route follows the course of River Adige. From your starting place this pleasant cycling stretch leads down to the smallest town of the Alps, the town of Glorenza. Past the marble town of Laas you get to Naturns and even- tually – past the impressive Kastellbell castle – to the spa town of Merano. Enjoy an evening walk through town along the “Passer” promenade surrounded by subtropical flora. Day 8: Merano – Bolzano (approx. 40 km) There is plenty to see along this route: Niederlana’s famous Schnatterpeckaltar, the largest Gothic wing altar in the Alpine area, the highest church tower of the South Tyrol in Terlan and a great number of fortresses and ruins on both valley slopes. The region also offers plenty of culinary delights: asparagus in Terlan, tasty chestnuts in Nals and last but not least excellent regional wines. As you reach the pedestrian zone of Bolzano you’ll soon realise the southern flair of the city. Day 9: Departure Individual departure or possibility to extend your stay. Bernhard Strolz, Innsbruck-Wien, 2004.) A) STRASSEN DURCH TIROL VIA CLAUDIA AUGUSTA Die Römer legten als erste richtige Straßen durch Tirol an. Die Via Claudia Augusta ist benannt nach Kaiser Claudius, 46/47 n. Chr. beendet.

Culinary Cycle Adventure „Via Claudia Augusta“ Cycle along old Roman routes and enjoy ancient cuisine 2000 years ago the Roman emperor Claudius had this route from the Adriatic Sea to Augsburg built mainly for his supply troops and courier services. Journal of Business and Economics, ISSN 2155-7950, USA December 2013, Volume 4, No. 12, pp. 1187-1200 Academic Star Publishing Company, 2013 http://www.academicstar.us Distribution of Economic Power and Income between Major Cities and Their Regions in Germany Werner Münzenmaier (Ministry of Finance and Economics Baden-Wuerttemberg, Neues Schloss, D70173 Stuttgart, Germany) Abstract: Based on National Accounts Data for production and income, this article deals with the question how intensive the five economically strongest German cities radiate into their neighboring regions. In this respect, the situation is very different for the five cities and their regions: (1) Two cities (Hamburg, Dusseldorf) are very dominant and exceed the districts of their respective region in all four per-capita indicators; (2) although Munich is an economically very strong city it is surpassed by some rural districts of its region with respect to productivity and income; (3) Frankfurt as an international banking center has a very productive economy and offers the highest earnings of all major cities but it looses a lot of purchasing power due to the commuting of well earning employees residing in more attractive neighboring communities; (4) the indicators show very small disparities within the Region of Stuttgart which is characterized by the production of cars and other investment goods and insofar differs from the other regions with core cities dominating in business services. Key words: regional accounts; labor productivity; compensation of employees; income; cities JEL codes: E01, J30, O18, R12 1. Introduction Major cities radiate in many ways into their neighboring regions. Typically, these cities are economically closely intertwined with the surrounding cities and municipalities and can therefore be considered as the core cities of an area.

At the beginning of the 16th century, Emperor Maximilian I. made the city at the centre of the north-south and east-west axis his residence and by doing so created the conditions for a thriving economic and cultural life. Tradespeople appreciated the ideal location of Innsbruck and used Brenner as the lowest Alpine pass. Connections to important transport routes established the basis for Innsbruck’s rise as a centre of business, trade, conventions and tourism. The historical names of the city, »Oenipons« and »Anspruggen« make it clear that bridges are a part of the past and future of the Tyrolean capital. The city’s people and business owners knew how to use the favourable topographical and scenic conditions to their advantage and make Innsbruck a flourishing centre. Milestones such as the opening of the university, the connection to the railroad, and the opening of the airport have supported this development.
