Volume 22 Issue 2 2 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Hello FCA Southwest Region Members, First, I would like to thank the Board of Directors for bestowing on me this great honor of serving as President of the Southwest Region of FCA for the next two years. I also want to thank the membership at large for once again voting for me to serve another term on this Board. This is a very serious commitment to me, and I will do all in my power, along with the UPCOMING EVENTS help of a great Board, to continue in the tradition of providing the best events, along with a 8th Annual Mystery Ride great magazine for our members to enjoy with their families and their magnificent cars. 8th Annual Concorso Ferrari I have stated often and loudly that in my opinion this is the best car club anyone could be Grand Canyon Tour a member. I say that because of the people. The members who participate in events, the South Coast Botanical Gardens members who always have time to share their experience, the members who are of service Annual Picnic to the club, the members of the board, and yes, of course the cars that bring this all together. 2015 FCA Annual Meet in Monterey Let’s not forget our advertisers, they are the backbone of our magazine, and sponsors of Italian Night many an event. Patronize them when you can, and thank them often for helping us put out Vandenberg Car Show Weekend a world-class magazine. See you at the next event! This is a car club that is about fun. Fun drives, fun trips, fun tours, and fun members. This club excels at that. So mark those calendars for the events that interest you. In the next three months we will put on the 8th Annual Mystery Ride, Concorso Ferrari in Pasadena, First Saturday and Sunday meets and drives, The Annual Picnic, The Grand Canyon Event, and many others. Come to one or come to all, and don’t forget tell a friend who is not yet a mem - PAST PRESIDENTS ber to come and enjoy one of our events. Better yet, ask them to join and they can come on all the trips and join in on the fun. This sale will include 22 cars from various ages of motoring, and will have examples from Ferrari, Bentley, Bugatti, Rolls-Royce and Jaguar, among others. Highlighting the sale are examples from four different eras of motoring: 1897 Panhard-Levassor 6hp Twin Cylinder Phaeton The Panhard-Levassor was the first ever luxury car, and the company dominated the luxury market until the arrival of Mercedes in 1901. In 1895, a Panhard-Levassor won the first ever motor race by driving from Paris to Bordeaux and back again. Unfortunately, few examples have survived – the Veteran Car Club of Great Britain records just 35. As a result, it is a rare occurrence to see such an example of motoring history at auction. This example, which is known as ‘William the Conqueror’, was delivered to a motor dealership in Paris in December 1897. It was discovered in the late 1970s in northern France, and was brought to the UK where it underwent a comprehensive restoration. The car carries an estimate of £100,000-150,000. 1923 Bentley 3 Litre Drophead Coupé by Park Ward This immaculate vintage Bentley was delivered new to Alfred Dunhill in December 1923. Dunhill is most famous for founding the company which carries his name, and which aimed to supply ‘everything but the motor’ in its motor accessories range.

    FERRARI 250 GT LUSSO We are pleased to bring back into stock this stunning original colour combination, Ferrari Classiche certified 250 GT Lusso in right-hand drive. The 250 GT Lusso is widely regarded as one of the most elegant and timeless designs by Pininfarina of all time. Introduced in 1962 the 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso was Ferrari's latest intermediate model, a vehicle to bridge the gap between competition racers and luxuriously appointed 2+2 Coupe's. 351 examples were built between 1963 and late 64. This particular Right Hand Drive example is one of just 22 cars originally supplied by Maranello Concessionaires and was first delivered in April 1964. The car was collected from the factory and driven back by the first owner. It has remained in the UK ever since and remarkably it is believed the car has only had four private owners from new. With the registration "99 JBU" the car was for many years in the long term ownership of Mr Alexander Fyshe, who showed the car at numerous events during his 30 year ownership. The car was restored in the 90's over a long period by Maranello, it had little use and remained in concours condition for the rest of Fyshe's ownership until 2008 when it was sold to private owner number three who maintained the car without care for expense with Bob Houghton. Owner number four covered a few thousand miles and maintained it with a leading UK specialist and we then acquired the car and sold it to it's fifth owner who has covered under a thousand miles over the past five years.

    FERRARI 250GT BERLINETTA LUSSO Chassis 5685. Metallic Blue, Crema leather. Of the 350 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso built only 20 were delivered in right hand drive and it is belied that out of the 20 cars built only 17 cars survive today. Chassis 5685 was first delivered to Mrs. Campbell-Golding via Colonel Ronnie Hall’s Maranello Concessionaires in 1964. The car was originally finished in dark metallic blue with blue leather and first registered ‘6 HLA’ Very early in the cars life it 5685 was repainted in a very attractive light metallic green as this was reputed the color of Mrs. Campbell-Golding’s favorite scarf, and the leather was conollised black. Mrs. Campbell-Golding enjoyed her Lusso regularly and after covering approximately 90,000 miles a piston rod went through the side of the block. Mrs. Campbell-Goding immediately brought the car back to Maranello Concessionairs and demanded that the engine was replaced, thus a full rebuild was undertaken using a replacement block number 3069. The car then spent some time off the road until it was purchased by David Cottingham of DK Engineering whom in turn sold the car to Mr. John Braithwaite. Mr. Braithwaite owned the car for more than 20 years during which time he undertook a full restoration over a 3 year period that was fully documented in the Ferrari Owners Club magazine in 1983 (Volume 15, numbers 2, 3 and 4) as one an example of a near perfect restoration During the restoration the car was painted in British racing Green and the interior retrimmed in cream.
