PRESS RELEASE Her Majesty the Queen honours Mawlana Hazar Imam Windsor, 7th March 2018 - Her Majesty the Queen this evening hosted a dinner at Windsor Castle for Mawlana Hazar Imam in honour of his Diamond Jubilee, at which The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke of York, The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence were present. Mawlana Hazar Imam was accompanied by members of his family; Prince Amyn, Princess Zahra, Prince Rahim, Princess Salwa, Prince Hussain and Prince Aly Muhammad. The event acknowledged historic linkages between the Ismaili Imamat and the British Monarchy and longstanding connections between the Ismaili Community, the institutions of the Aga Khan Development Network and the United Kingdom. Mawlana Hazar Imam was bestowed the title "His Highness" by Her Majesty the Queen in 1957 the year of his accession as hereditary leader of the Shi’a Ismaili Muslims, and was appointed Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 2004. “The Noorani family and Royal family have played an important part in the history of our Jamat who have now settled for almost three generations in the UK and Europe. The guidance and institutions of our beloved Imam, together with the support of British institutions, have enabled us, the Ismaili Community, not only to prosper, but also to raise families that now actively contribute to the wider society. Our collective gratitude for this opportunity to give back to our countries of residence, and indeed the Commonwealth, can not be understated,” said President Liakat Hasham following the dinner. Sources: Galileo’s Correspondence Notes on the Translations The following collection of letters is the result of a selection made by the author from the correspondence of Galileo published by Antonio Favaro in his Le opere di Galileo Galilei,theEdizione Nazionale (EN), the second edition of which was published in 1968. These letters have been selected for their relevance to the inves- tigation of Galileo’s practical activities.1 The information they contain, moreover, often refers to subjects that are completely absent in Galileo’s publications. All of the letters selected are quoted in the work. The passages of the letters, which are quoted in the work, are set in italics here. Given the particular relevance of these letters, they have been translated into English for the ﬁrst time by the author. This will provide the international reader with the opportunity to achieve a deeper comprehension of the work on the basis of the sources. The translation in itself, however, does not aim to produce a text that is easily read by a modern reader. The aim is to present an understandable English text that remains as close as possible to the original. Praise be to God, the Eternal that perisheth not, the Everlasting that declineth not, the Self- Subsisting that altereth not. He it is Who is transcendent in His sovereignty, Who is manifest through His signs, and is hidden through His mysteries. He it is at Whose bidding the standard of the Most Exalted Word hath been lifted up in the world of creation, and the banner of “He doeth whatsoever He willeth” raised amidst all peoples. He it is Who hath revealed His Cause for the guidance of His creatures, and sent down His verses to demonstrate His Proof and His Testimony, and embellished the preface of the Book of Man with the ornament of utterance through His saying: “The God of Mercy hath taught the Qur’án, hath created man, and taught him articulate speech.” No God is there but Him, the One, the Peerless, the Powerful, the Mighty, the Beneﬁcent. The light that is shed from the heaven of bounty, and the benediction that shineth from the dawning-place of the will of God, the Lord of the Kingdom of Names, rest upon Him Who is the Supreme Mediator, the Most Exalted Pen, Him Whom God hath made the Dawning-Place of His most excellent names and the Dayspring of His most exalted attributes. The Naser al-Din Sháh Qajar was the Shah of Qajar, Iran, from 5 reform process petered out in the late 1870s. September 1848 to 1 May 1896, when he was assassinated. He was the third longest reigning monarch in Iranian history after Shapur II of the • The Sháh had (in 1875) resolved to bring about the Sassanid dynasty and Tahmasp I of the Safavid Dynasty. advancement of the Persian people, their welfare and security, and the prosperity of their country. Henri presented himself to the public in many ceremonies as the new French ruler, whereas Venice used the visit for cultivating its traditional image as defender of the Christian faith. The exchange of gifts during the visit demonstrated the good diplomatic relations between the two states and presented a sign of the generosity that was required as a strategy of political representation.
