Result of Program Implementation Eight Swedish investigators in and visited us in Keio University on November 30, 2007 , and we had a symposium on “Stem Cell Biology” at the Embassy of Sweden in . Active discussions were held on the future possibilities of research collaboration.

More than 20 investigators attended the international meetings or congresses on stem cells by the support of this grant.

1/2 Achievements in FY2007 (Self Review)

Since 100 people could attend the symposium in Embassy, this core-to- core program was well known as an essential project for the global interaction.

Thus, we will launch the Office for International Collaboration in Keio University School of Medicine in 2008. Through this activity, we will be able to take the leading position in the stem cell biology in the world.

Future Plan (Measures toward Achieving Research Objectives) Keio University enjoys a world-wide reputation for stem cell studies, having another research program on cancer biology as the 21st Century COE Program. These two programs at Keio aim to collaborate in developing translational studies of the stem cells and cancer through various activities with the Lund Stem Cell Center such as joint studies on neural and hematopoietic stem cells, seminars focusing on the young researchers' work, and short/long term exchange programs, which in turn are expected to bring an expansion of a global network of researchers engaged in stem cell studies on the basis of this core-to-core projects.
