Cathedral Governance and Management The current body corporate of the Cathedral Governance comprises Cathedral Council, Cathedral Chapter and the College of Canons. The Council provides general oversight and advice. The Chapter, similar to a Board of Trustees, provides strategic leadership and direction. The College of Canons links the Cathedral Governance with the Diocese of Winchester and ecumenical partners. The Cathedral Chapter is chaired by the Dean, who is appointed by the Crown and is Head of Foundation. The other members of Chapter are appointed by the Bishop. These currently include two full-time residentiary Canons, the Canon Chancellor and the Canon Precentor, and three lay Chapter Canons. The Cathedral Chapter is a vital, praying community at the heart of the Cathedral. The Dean and Chapter and the Clergy organisational charts may be found in the Appendix. Changes in legislation governing cathedrals are being put in place through a new “Cathedrals Measure”. Winchester Cathedral Chapter is taking a full and active role in this process and in preparing for the changes required, most notably to gain full charitable status. 6 Information for Applicants Winchester Cathedral - Calling and Vision Treasuring the rich resources of its heritage, the Cathedral Chapter looks forward with confidence and hope to the future.
