Artists: Tokimonsta Remixers: Dombresky Artists: TOKiMONSTA Remixers: Dombresky, Promnite, Halogenix, Damian Lazarus Title: Come and Go Remixed EP Label: Young Art Records Release: July 29th Format: Digital Following her fourth full-length album released earlier this year, Oasis Nocturno, TOKiMONSTA returns with the announcement of her new Come And Go Remixed EP. The first installment of her upcoming remix album Oasis Nocturno Remixed (slated for release this Fall). The EP spans reimagined tracks from both fast-rising and established producers including Dombresky, Promnite, Halogenix, and Damian Lazarus. Accompanying today’s news is the first single from the EP, a rework by Dombresky, where he reimagines the serene and gentle song into an uptempo and dance evoking house track. Speaking on the collaboration, Dombresky shares, "TOKiMONSTA's album is one of my favorites from this year. She is a true artist, trailblazer, visionary, and inspiration to many around the world, and it was my pleasure to remix one of her songs." With TOKiMONSTA adding, "this remix from Dombresky is such a banger. I love the 90s house vibe. It makes me wanna dance until my legs fall off!" Oasis Nocturno was released earlier this year and received recognition from Hypebeast, Stereogum, Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound, NPR, Dancing Astronaut, DJ Mag, and more. With her fourth album, the Grammy-nominated producer and label-head picks up where 2017's critically acclaimed and Grammy-nominated release Lune Rouge left off. The second act to TOKiMONSTA's last album, a beautiful, immersive, and left-turn exploration that resulted in a melodic and cohesive project, spanning 12 atmospheric tracks that infuse intricate and declarative vocals with her psychedelic and smooth production. The album features a handful of rising and established artists, including 2x Grammy-nominated EarthGang, Bibi Bourelly, Jean Deaux, Drew Love, Dumbfounded, Sunni Colón, VanJess, and more. TOKiMONSTA is well on her way to becoming a household name around the world and an icon in music history. The first Asian-American female producer to have been nominated for a Grammy Award and one that straddles the line between various realms of music and culture. Revered by colleagues and press alike TOKiMONSTA had pushed forth the genre-less idiom before it was a trend by working with and collaborating with both mainstream and indie artists across music worlds, including Anderson .Paak, MNDR, Gavin Turek, Joey Purp, Isaiah Rashad, Selah Sue, ZHU, and more. Listen to the "Come And Go" (Dombresky Remix), pre-order the EP, and stay tuned for more news to follow. Tracklist 01. Come and Go (Damian Lazarus Remix) 02. Come and Go (Dombresky Remix) 03. Drawing on recent Afrofuturist art and theo- ry as well as on Amiri Baraka’s analysis of the “changing same” in black music, this essay traces out the significance of work by artists as diverse as Kamasi Washington, Flying Lotus, Thundercat, and Robert Glasper, positing that their music tells us that jazz matters not only in itself, but also in its continuing ca- pacity to engage in cross-genre dialogues for musicians and audiences who hear it as part of a rich con- tinuum of African American musical expression. We are, it seems, in an age of Afrofuturism. The release of the Black Panther feature film in Febru- ary 2018 was greeted with a spate of think pieces across a range of media, explaining the term Afro- futurism for an unfamiliar audience. “T’Challa, also known as the Black Panther, the title character of the blockbuster movie, wasn’t the first person to land a spaceship (or something like it) in down- town Oakland, Calif.,” starts one such article.1 Such pieces point back to bandleaders Sun Ra and George Clinton (and sometimes to Jamaican dub artist Lee “Scratch” Perry) to provide background for the film’s mix of the old and the new, technolo- gy and the spirit, space-age Africa, and, eventually, a sense of diasporic culture that travels in both di- rections across the Black Atlantic–in ships in the gabriel solis is Professor of sky rather than the sea–suturing the fissures rent Musicology at the University of by the middle passage, by war, and by colonial mo- Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Enter Jennifer Lee, a producer who finds comfort in the shrouded beats scene of Los Angeles. More formally known as TOKiMONSTA (http://www.djz.com/tag/tokimonsta), Lee has managed to wedge herself into the upper echelon of experimental electronic music, as evident by her recent Nov 2 performance at the Red Bull Music Academy Discotheque Stage (www.redbullmusicacademy.com/events/hard-day-of-the-dead-2013) at Hard Day of the Dead (http://www.harddayofthedead.com/). Dubbed the "first lady" of Brainfeeder (http://www.brainfeedersite.com/) by the record label's founder Flying Lotus (http://www.djz.com/tag/flying-lotus), Lee is no stranger to hanging tough in what appears to be an all-boys club. "People will say things like I'm not really producing my own music," she says. "They think I'm just the face and someone else is making the beats behind the scenes." What started as hobby has since evolved to become everything for the producer, who began making beats after following a friend's suggestion.
