Lashon HaKodesh, or , is a language and alphabet that is Divinely created. The Torah was written with the letters of the Aleph and the entire universe was created with Ten Utterances using the same holy letters.

Teaching a child how to read Hebrew is a holy task. Teaching a student the Aleph Bet will serve The Aleph Champ as a foundation for life, spiritually affecting Program is based on his/her soul and belief in G-d. The Lubavitcher “the Chabad Mesorah, Rebbe writes: “I had pleasure reading… that you or tradition. teach your class according to the Mesorah of our holy ancestors, Komatz Aleph Uh. Concerning the holiness of the Aleph Beis letters and the Nekudos, it is ” known that they originate from Moshe Rabbeinu who received it from Hashem at Har Sinai. This is known and obvious in the Zohar and in Tikkunei- Zohar. And not only the letters and Nekudos themselves, but also their names. It is written in the above places that the names of the Nekudos are actually the acronym of the names of Malochim, etc."

The Aleph Champ Program is based on the Chabad Mesorah, or tradition. First the letters and their names are introduced. Only after is the child taught the Nekudot () and how to combine them with the letters to make sounds.

Developed after the karate motivational system of colors and levels

The Aleph Champ Program is a brainstorm idea developed after the karate motivational system of colors and levels. The entire Kriah system is divided into levels of different colors. This arrangement ensures that students learn to read Hebrew in an efficient, well-organized method. Aleph Champ takes a lot of groundwork; the program will not run on its own, but the results are tremendous and well worth the effort. Learning to read is broken In the Aleph Champ Program, reading down into manageable goals groups are divided by color instead of “where students can clearly age group, thereby allowing conscientious students to surpass the gauge their progress. Every pace of their class and advance in color mastered gives students reading on their own. the confidence to keep on going. I have never seen a When a student steps into a karate class, program motivate children it is very clear what level everyone is on. where success was their The teacher is a Black Belt. Some reward until Aleph Champ! students who have been studying for years are Purple or even Brown Belts. - An Aleph Champ Director Beginners wear White Belts and there is a plethora of other colored belts. The requirements necessary to advance fro”m level to level is clearly delineated and the reward is merely the change in belt color, a change in status.

When a student steps into an Aleph Champ room, it is very clear what level everyone is on. The teacher is a Black Champ, wearing a Black Medal. Beginner students are wearing White or Red Medals and advanced students are wearing Purple or even Brown Medals.

Aleph Champ ensures that students do not go on to a new level until they have truly mastered all that their current level expects them to know. This avoids the common problem of children learning to read without fully mastering a letter, or concept in reading.

Page 5 בס”ד HOW IT WORKS

Who is it for? Aleph Champ was originally created to be used within the Hebrew School framework where students learn Hebrew once a week. Today, Aleph Champ is used within many teaching settings, such as at home, in day schools, and as part of adult classes. The program is geared for grades 1 and above. Allow students below grade 1 to learn the Aleph Bet letters in a relaxed, story-based setting using hands-on materials, puppets and scrapbooks. When these younger students reach Aleph Champ age, the first 2 levels of White and Red will be a mere review of the Aleph Bet.

How long is an Aleph Champ lesson? The suggested Aleph Champ lesson is 45 minutes since a half hour can be too short and one hour can be too long.

The 45 minute lessons go by very quickly when following our suggested schedule. See Daily Schedule on page 9

How do I set up the classroom? The ideal way to run Aleph Champ is to have one Aleph Champ Room where all students study at the same time. This adds excitement and fun. Each level within Aleph Champ has its own table. Each level has its own teacher and is run like a mini class, following the daily schedule. Having enough staff is crucial. A manageable group size is 8 students per teacher, with an assistant. If you don’t have enough teachers, call on parents, Hebrew School alumni, and volunteers to help out. A successful Aleph Champ needs enough staff to go around.

Each level has its own color coded bin/container The ideal way to with all the material needed. run Aleph Champ See Materials on page 19 “ is to have one Aleph Champ If you don’t have space for an Aleph Champ Room, Room where all each teacher may teach Aleph Champ individually students study in their own classroom. The challenge is that while in the Aleph Champ Room your students would split at the same time. according to level, here you will have students on multiple levels within one class, and you will have to ” juggle. Page 6 Staff בס”ד Aleph Champ runs successfully when there is enough staff. Groups should be kept small and should not exceed more than 8 students per teacher. You can never As Aleph Champ teachers, it is important to have too much understand the overall method of Aleph Champ and be “staff in an Aleph familiar with the ‘rules’ before teaching. Champ Room There is more to Aleph Champ than just reading and writing exercises. It is the details and - believe it or not - the rules and guidelines that make the program exciting. ” Be sure to train with your head teacher at the beginning of the year and give thought and prepare your lessons throughout the year for you to see results!

Discipline Behavioral problems are unacceptable in the Aleph Champ Room. Truth be told, the schedule is so tight it leaves little room for students to misbehave. A common reason for behavioral issues is that the student is experiencing difficulty in reading or is too advanced for the group and does not feel challenged. Try to assess the issue yourself before bringing it to the attention of head teacher or contacting the parents.

Homework Homework has become fun! This year, for the first time ever, your students can practice and continue to learn Hebrew reading by logging on to our brand new, award winning Aleph Champ Kids website and enjoying an Aleph Champ wonderland. Review games, audio reading practice, and interactive, graded activities are all a click away, and you, as the teacher, can track it all! There is an annual membership fee per child. Website registration opens in Elul, 5774/September 2014. Stay tuned!

Another homework option is the Aleph Champ Almanac. The Almanac is a great way for students to practice Hebrew reading at home. It is one small reader with review reading pages for levels White through Blue. Each student can receive an Almanac at the beginning of the year and keep it at home.

Since not all parents are able to help their children with Hebrew reading, and very often the students become more advanced than their parents, it is suggested to send home an Aleph Bet & Vowel Chart for parents to use a ‘cheat sheet.’

Page 7 בס”ד HEAD TEACHER

Assign one 'head teacher' to be in charge of the Aleph Champ room. This could be your school's director, a specifically hired teacher, or parent.

This head teacher should teach one of the groups but is also responsible for the general upkeep of the room, overseeing the progress that each student is making and keeping an eye on teacher/student relationships.

The head teacher should compile a list of all the students in Aleph Champ and their Hebrew reading levels. Once this list is created, students can then be divided into an Aleph Champ group and assigned a teacher. There are 9 Aleph Champ groups corresponding to the karate color-coded levels. Group 1 is White, Group 2 is Red, etc. If you have enough staff, then assign one teacher per level and you are good to go. If you are tight on teachers, then you may have to combine levels. For example, if there are 2 students on Yellow and 3 on Green, they may have to share a table and teacher. If there are 15 students on Orange level, half on Stripe 1, the other half on Stripe 2 and Stripe 3, you may split them into two groups. Every situation is unique.

Because students are moving from level to level as the months go by, there is a constant need to oversee the group divisions. Your groups may begin the year with a low teacher to student ratio, but as students pass and move from level to level, one teacher may be left with 2 students while another now has 11 on their hands! Every few weeks this needs to be assessed and then modified accordingly. This could mean rotating staff between the groups and redividing as necessary.

Meeting with teachers on a regular basis ensures that students are being kept motivated and allows teachers to share any challenges they may be facing, such as students who may require more assistance.

Head teachers are the ones to prints all files and sheets that teachers will need during Aleph Champ. Bookmarks need to be printed on colored cardstock and cut, Warmups and Tester sheets need to be photcopied, etc.

The head teacher should keep all completed bookmarks and log which students passed which levels each week. This will be helpful when preparing for an Aleph Champ Award Ceremony when you will need to determine a student’s progress over the course of a few months. Page 8 בס”ד DAILY SCHEDULE

Follow the daily schedule with all levels so that your students get into a routine and know what to expect from the minute they walk into the Aleph Champ room till they leave 45 minutes later. Remember, it’s all about repetition and discipline.

Warmups Like in karate, first you gotta warm up before learning the new stuff! Warmup sheets are used at the beginning of each Aleph Champ lesson as a review of previously learned material. Every student receives a warmup sheet that is appropriate to their level and stripe. Students know that the first five minutes of Aleph Champ is review time.

Don’t skip the Warmups! You would be surprised to find how a Brown Aleph Champ can forget the names of some of the Aleph Bet letters. Time the 5 minutes of review so that students know it’s really 5 minutes. Walk around and listen or answer questions as students review.

Reading Students read independently from their Reader in an undertone as you walk around the table. Keep in mind that your students within one level are not all holding at the same place. They may all be on different page in their reader.

Reading time is your opportunity to give instruction to the students, one on one. On White level you may introduce a new letter to a student, on Yellow, teach a new vowel, on Blue, explain a new exception. This is your time to teach new information. If two students are holding at the same place, then maximize your time and teach them together!

This is also your chance to listen to each student read. You don’t have enough time to listen to students read an entire page, so you will have to use your judgement and sign the student’s bookmark when you get a sense that they are ready to move to the next page. It could be after hearing a line or two. There are not enough weeks of Hebrew School for your student to read every page of the Reader. You will have to use your judgement!

When reading is complete, be sure to sign the date on students’ bookmarks with your red pen.

Page 9 בס”ד Chavrusa Each Aleph Champ lesson should have ten minutes of Chavrusa time. Working in pairs, students review using various learning materials such as Flashcards and mats, Half ‘n Half sheets, and Readers and timers. (See Additional Materials on page 21 for further explanation.)

During Chavrusa time, walk around and oversee that students are reviewing and are focused.

Workbook Each level of Aleph Champ has its own Workbook with level-appropriate practice. As students independantly complete pages in their Workbooks, you should constantly check their work. Warning: Don’t let students complete page after page incorrectly as they race through the Workbook, excited to pass. Be on top of their work and make corrections if need be.

When a page is completed properly, be sure to sign the date on their bookmarks with your red pen!

Game Using games to review during the last ten minutes of Aleph Champ keeps things fun. This can be a time to have students move around, laugh, and win prizes. Don’t skip the game!

Keep an eye on the clock so that your group, and subsequently all of the other groups in the Aleph Champ Room, end on time. See Games on page 23 for a list of suggested games and instructions

Stripes keep students motivated in the long haul from one level to the next. The excitement of receiving a stripe keeps up the Aleph Champ momentum. Each level is divided into 3 sub-levels.

For example, Sammy just started Orange level. is on Orange Stripe 1. A piece of tape on his Orange Medallion indicates his status. When Sammy completes 1/3 of the level, he begins Orange Stripe 2. A second piece of tape is added to his Medallion necklace. When 2/3 through, Sammy begins the last stretch, Each level is Orange Stripe 3, and is now wearing a Medallion with 3 stripes. “divided into 3 sub-levels. The exact breakup of all stripes within a level is Do not ignore clearly outlined on the bookmarks and marked on the stripes! the bottom of the Reader pages. Do not ignore the stripes! When a student passes a stripe, it should be like a mini version o”f passing a level! Congratulate those students, apply the new piece of tape with fanfare, and maybe give a special treat, like a sugar- free colored ice pop.

Notice the Aleph Champ Map on the first page of each level’s workbook. Use colored stickers to mark a student’s progress as they travel along the map. You can come up with many additional ways to highlight the stripe system. Don’t hesitate to be creative and implement your own systems.

Page 15 בס”ד TESTING

Your student completed his Workbook and Reader, and has his bookmark all filled out to show it's legit. You listen to your student read the last page in the Reader, titled 'Prepare to Pass.' If it is read with no more than 2 mistakes, (in the timeframe allotted for Purple levels and above,) then the student is ready to be tested.

Testing time is during the last 15 minutes of Aleph Champ. This way students have time to practice beforehand and once they pass they can begin their new level the following week with a fresh start.

Assign an official “Aleph Champ Tester” like your Rabbi, director or head teacher. There needs to be a designated Tester and it should not be a teacher since teachers will be busy with their own groups.

Testers use the Testing Sheets to assess Ensure that students students. Students who successfully pass the know what they need test are congratulated and applauded! They “ can return their Reader to the material's bin, to do in order to hand their bookmark to their teacher, and pass BEFORE the test. bring their completed Workbook and Give them the tools Medallion home. The following week they to test themselves move to the next level, (table,) and receive and practice so they their new Reader, Workbook, bookmark, and themselves know Medallion. they are ready The Tester should announce that week’s passing champs to the entire Aleph Champ room at the end of Aleph Ch”amp. Use a fun sound or ringtone from your phone to make the exciting weekly announcement. Flicker the lights, drum-roll, play it up!

Students should feel that testing is a serious thing and they should only be tested when they feel confident that they are ready to pass. Testers should not be lenient when testing students! Passing students before they are ready will only harm their progress, not benefit it.

Parent's love to hear feedback. Let them know by pickup time how proud you are that their child passed a level in Aleph Champ. Drop them an email. It will go a long way.

Page 16 בס”ד PRESENTATION

The way you present Aleph Champ to your school is the way the students will react.

One of the key focuses of the Aleph Champ Program is to make it child friendly. Each student should be excited and eager to learn to read. At the same time, students need to realize that just like in karate, this is a disciplined, professional program. It is up to the director and teachers to present it in such a manner.

Beginning of the year assembly: It is crucial to have an assembly at the beginning of the year that explains the way the program will be run. Ask a local karate instructor to come in and share with the students the basic disciplines of karate, like discipline and practice. If possible, a student that has already mastered a few levels of Aleph Champ should come up and read a few lines to the audience to excite the other students and show them that the goal is attainable!

Display: In order to present Aleph Champ as a competitive karate-style program, be sure to set the room up properly for the first assembly. A table should be set up with all the colored Readers, Workbooks, Medallions and any Aleph Champ paraphernalia that you have. The Aleph Champ poster should be hanging for the children to see.

Parents: Send a letter to the parents (see page 26) explaining the program. If you are meeting with parents at the beginning of the school year, show them Aleph Champ up close and explain to them how it works. Explain the near impossibility of a child learning to read Hebrew on a once a week basis without at home involvement and encouragement.

For those schools that have used Aleph Champ in the past, be sure to give your students 2-3 weeks to brush up on their Hebrew skills after the long summer break. A Yellow Champ may need to review her letters. That’s okay. No one should be ‘demoted.’ That is an awful feeling. Give time for review and only then assess.

Page 17 בס”ד AWARD CEREMONY

Award Ceremonies are a great way to involve parents in the successes of their children. They can be done yearly or bi- yearly, possibly in conjunction with a Chanukah party or end of year party.

At an Aleph Champ Award Ceremony, students are called up on stage and are presented with an award for the levels they passed. This is done level by level so that eventually you call up all the White Champs, Red Champs, Orange Champs, etc.

For students that did not pass a level, present them with a certificate for the progress they've made within a level. (Stripes!) This way, all students are recognized and congratulated.

Sample Aleph Champ Award Ceremony: Figure out which students have graduated from one level to the next since the beginning of the year or the last ceremony. A few weeks before the ceremony, send out a school e-mail inviting the parents and families of your students to come. Make an award certificate for every student. You may purchase different colored candies and prizes appropriate for each color. Begin with the lowest level. Call up students who passed the White Level one at a time. Each child gets their “White” certificate and prize and remains standing until all of the new White Champs have come up. Take a group picture, send the students to their seats, and continue with the next group.

Aleph Champ Award Ceremony Check List: While the following are not necessities to the ceremony, they definitely enhance the excitement and atmosphere of this special event. When students see a fancy and well-coordinated assembly prepared they feel that they have accomplished something great and become excited to continue succeeding. Feel free to set a display table with samples of Aleph Champ material for parents to view.

1. Certificates photocopied onto colored paper, cut and personalized 2. Colored candies corresponding to the Aleph Champ levels (Laffy Taffies) 3. Colored prizes (Oriental Trading Co. has plenty of choices) 4. Colored balloons 5. Trophies, buttons, ribbons, crowns, bracelets... Use your imagination. Page 18 בס”ד MATERIALS

Spend time in the beginning of the year organizing your Aleph Champ Room. Things can get hectic and it's important to know where everything can be found. Here is what you will need:

Readers: After all, we are a Hebrew reading program! Each level of Aleph Champ has its own Reader with level-appropriate reading practice. There should be enough Readers for each student to have their own. Readers should not be written in or taken home, and can therefore pass from one student to the next.

Workbooks: Work sheets that are fun and motivate students to progress Each level of Aleph Champ has its own Workbook with level-appropriate practice. In the Workbooks, students are required to recognize, name, and even draw the letters and words that they are learning in the Readers. Each student receives their own Workbook as they begin a new level.

Bookmarks: "What page am I on?" Students & teachers can keep track Each student receives their own bookmark as they begin a new level. Upon completion of each page in the Reader and Workbook, sign the date with a red pen on the corresponding space on the bookmark. By signing the date, the bookmark becomes an efficient way to track your student's progress at a glance. Print bookmarks on colored card stock to match the level it represents.

Flashcards: A learning tool that can be used as review and when playing games Each level of Aleph Champ has its own set of level-appropriate, review flashcards. Levels White and Red use Aleph Bet Flashchards while Orange and above use word flashcards.

It is your job as the teacher to keep the flashcards organized and make sure that they are all returned at the end of a lesson. Use thick rubber bands to keep them tidy or purchase colored index card cases to store them.

Page 19 בס”ד :Medallions & Tape Like karate belts, medals are a symbol of status in the ever-evolving system Each student receives their own medal as they begin a new level. Students wear their Medallion with pride during Aleph Champ. Teachers can wear them too! Medallions are used to showcase what stripe a student is on by using pieces of tape wrapped around the necklace. There are 3 stripes within each level, so at any given time, a student will have 1, 2, or 3 'stripes' on their Medallion necklace. Medals should be kept at school and not be taken home until a student passes that level. Using a sharpie, write students’ names on the back of the medals to keep things organized.

Timers: Let's see how fluent you are… now let's practice and beat that time! Timers can be used for all levels to motivate students and to guage fluency. Some students are intimidated by the timers, so use your judgment. On levels Purple and above, the timer becomes very important since students are required to read a specific amount of words per minute or WPM. At that level, each student should have their own timer to use during reading time.

Your smartphone’s stopwatch could make a good timer. Other options include purchasing timers for your students at www.Lakeshorelearning.com.

Script Workbooks: Advanced Champs get to dabble with writing! The script Workbooks are only introduced on the Brown and Grey levels, adding a fresh element to the Aleph Champ lesson. Following the order of the Aleph Bet, students practice fun pages and matching worksheets to encourage familiarity with the script letters.

Page 20 בס”ד ADDITIONAL MATERIAL

Warmup Sheets: Like in karate, first you gotta warm up before learning the new stuff! Warmup sheets are used at the beginning of each Aleph Champ lesson as a review of previously learned material. Every student receives a warmup sheet that is appropriate to their level and stripe. Students know that the first five minutes of Aleph Champ is review time.

Tester Sheets: Used by the Aleph Champ Tester Has your student completed their Reader and Workbook? Are all pages signed on their bookmark? Let the testing begin! This page is a short but focused summary of all the information a student is expected to know when passing a level. There is a tester sheet for each level.

Flashcard Mats: An accessory to the flashcards The mat allows students to sort the flashcards by which ones they read correctly and which ones were unfamiliar or read incorrectly. Print Flashcard Mats on card stock for interactive flashcard review. Laminate them so they last.

Half N Half Sheets: Print out Half ‘n Half pages to be used as review or during Chavrusa time. There are two columns with identical words, one with nikud, one without. Students fold the page in half so they can’t see the words with the nikud. The teacher reads the words aloud while students fill in the correct vowel. Afterwards, students check their work for accuracy by simply unfolding the page.

Teacher's Binders: Instant filing made easy Purchase nine 3-ring binders with the clear slip front covers. Copy Template 1 (page 25) onto white, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown and grey papers. Slip one into each folder. You now have a binder for each level. Use this binder to keep your students’ Aleph Champ material organized. Students’ bookmarks, Warmup Sheets, and Medallions are to be filed away each week in your binder.

Page 21 בס”ד :Colored Tablecloths An easy detail with a big impact Use colored plastic tablecloths on your tables to easily differentiate between levels and create an instant Aleph Champ feel in your room. Anyone walking into your Aleph Champ room will be impressed by your rainbow of tables.

Colored Bins: Where does this Red Reader belong? In the red bin! Organization is key. Each level should have their own bin/shelf/drawer/box to store their material. Try to keep nothing loose in your bin. Everything should have a place. Pencils in the ‘red’ pencil case. Flashcars in the ‘red’ index card filing boxes. Red Medallions are collected and stored in a ‘red’ filing pouch. Check out Oriental Trading or The Container Store for a whole bunch of fun, color-coded options.

Aleph Champ Poster Hang it up! Show it off! Aleph Champ Posters add color and excitement to the walls of your Aleph Champ Room. They also outline the levels in a clear way so anyone can see the order of levels at a glance.

White Boards: Each student can practice on their own! Have miniature whiteboards and dry erase markers on hand for teachers to use. It is a great tool to teach, review, and use when playing games. (Like Aleph Champ tic-tac-toe, for example.) Dry erase boards can be purchased in packs of 10 from Amazon.com, DiscountSchoolSupplies.com, or OrientalTrading.com.

Pencils, Pencil Cases, Sharpeners, Red Pens Last but not least! Students need pencils to write. Teacher's need red pens to sign the bookmarks. Don't forget: Use the colors of the Aleph Champ levels to guide you as you purchase your supplies. It reinforces the levels, makes it easy to clean up, and adds some fun.

Almanacs and Aleph Bet & Vowel Charts To send and keep at home for a homework option The Almanac is a condensed reader of 72 pages. It includes the 6 levels of White through Blue for home review. The chart is a ‘cheat sheet’ for parents.

Visit www.Alephchamp.com to purchase your Aleph Champ material today! Page 22 בס”ד GAMES

You want your students to look forward to Aleph Champ. Pouring over difficult reading and writing assignments won’t help your cause. A fun game, on the other hand, will. Don’t skip the game part of Aleph Champ. Ever.

Suggestion: Choose one game to play for 3 weeks at a time. The first week, introduce the game and practice. The second week, enjoy playing. The third week, make some sort of competition/reward finale. Then introduce the next game. If students don't seem to be enjoying the game, feel free to cut it short after one or two weeks. On the other hand, if one game goes over very well, play it again in the future. Every class is different. Play it by ear and have fun.

Here are some game ideas:

Around the World Students sit in their seats. The first student to play stands near the student sitting next to them. Show them a flashcard. The first student to blurt out the letter/word properly moves to the next chair and the other student sits down in the chair. When a student travels around the ‘world’ and reaches their original seat, they become the winner!

Kaboose Students line up in 2 lines. You hold up a flashcard. The first student to read the letter/word correctly moves to the back of the line, becoming the caboose of the train. When a student who started out as the first comes back to the head of the line, that team wins! Alternate: If you have a student who will do poorly with being timed, you can play this without speed. One team is given a word to read at a time. If the one team reads it, that student goes to the back. Otherwise it’s deferred to the other team. If the other team gets it right, they also get the next card.

English Sound Match Give out the entire set of Alef Bet Flashcards to your group so that each child has the same amount of cards. Use picture cards or draw pictures and hold them up to the students. Students look through their cards and see if they have a letter that matches the sound that the picture begins with. They have to say the name and sound of the letter and give their flashcard to the teacher. More than one child can have the same letter. The goal is for the children to get rid of all their cards.

Page 23 בס”ד Tic-Tac-Toe Draw a tic-tac-toe chart on your dry erase board. Divide the class in 2 teams. Each team goes one at a time, trying to read the flashcard word/letter that you hold up. If the child reads it correctly they get to come up and draw an O or X on the board. Play until a team wins a row of 3. Alternate: To make it harder, instead of having the students read one letter/word, roll a dice and depending on the number on the dice, that’s how many letters/words they need to read.

Aleph Bet Baseball Draw a baseball diamond with 4 bases on your dry erase board. Divide the class in two. Each team goes one at a time, trying to read the flashcard word/letter that you hold up. Every letter/word that the team reads is a base hit. Draw a marker on the base the team is on. Every plate is worth a point. When they make it to home plate, the team gets 5 team points! The team with the most points wins.

Oops The teacher holds a set of Aleph Bet Flashcards. One at a time, the cards are laid on the table for everyone to see as the teacher says the name of the letter. Every so often the teacher reads the flaschard incorrectly. The first student to catch the mistake, bangs on the table and says the correct letter for a point. If two students bang at the same time, they say the correct letter/word and that card goes into a bonus pile. The next winner gets the points for the cards in the bonus pile as well. You can have a student play teacher. A similar idea: Everybody starts out on the same page of their Aleph Champ Reader, and you, the teacher, begins reading. If you read the word correctly, students echo you and repeat the word. If you read the word incorrectly, students remain silent. A student must follow along or...oops! Once the students catch on and are bright enough to play ‘teacher’ they take the role.

Bingo Bingo boards are a great way to review letters and their names. Print on white and red cardstock and have on hand in the Aleph Champ room. Use can use chocolate chips as pieces for a yummy twist.

Eye Charts Test for good eye sight while reviewing the basics. For levels White-Green. Stick it up on the wall and use tape on the floor to mark the 10’ line. Have students line up and read covering one eye, adding twists as you see fit. Page 24 בס”ד

Aleph Champ Program

We are pleased to inform you of an exciting new program coming to our school! Aleph Champ is changing the course of Hebrew reading forever with an innovative, cutting edge reading system. Based on the martial arts motivational philosophy of color coded levels and testing, the Aleph Champ Program provides motivation and inspiration for Hebrew School students around the world.

Easily attainable levels and professional materials make Aleph Champ an incredible success. The as well as the vowels and word formations are divided into 10 colored levels. The students start out as "White Aleph Champs", working their way up the colors of the rainbow to be a "Black Aleph" like their teachers.

Sam Haskel, a Kitah Gimmel student at The Chabad Hi-Tech Hebrew School of Gramercy Park, Manhattan had a great experience this year with Aleph Champ. "When I started Hebrew school this year I didn't even know what an Aleph was. Now I'm a "Yellow Aleph Champ" and I hope to be a "Green Aleph Champ" before the end of the year." Parents and teachers alike are amazed by the results. Students are motivated and have clear goals defined for them. Learning to read Hebrew has never been so much fun.

Please encourage your child to practice Hebrew reading at home.

We look forward to making champ readers out of all our students.

Thank you for your support.
