609. 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon 2016, Cannonball £9.75 £14 Napa, California Balance in the mouth is exceptional from start to finish - strawberry, blueberry, and red apple dipped in dark chocolate, all-spice and a layer of toasted oak. Tannins are structured but not overwhelming, with very well balanced acidity.

496. 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape, Domaine Chante Cigale £30 Rhone Valley, France Deep ruby in colour with a wonderful nose of spice and dark fruits this is a real winter warmer. The palate is rich and ripe with layers of fruit and spice supported by fine tannins.

2. NV Prosecco Stelle d’Italia £35 Veneto, Italy A lively crisp Prosecco with a delicate lemony character and an aromatic, dry, refreshing finish.

3. 2012 Perlé Blanc de Blanc, Ferrari £58 Alto Adige, Italy Traditional method (Champagne Method) sparkling from the north of Italy that sees 7 years of aging prior to release. Developed flavours yet still very fresh. If you like Champagne then you need to try this. It was also voted best sparkling wine in the world last year (outside champagne) by Tom Stevenson.

4. NV Louis Pommery Brut £60 Hampshire, England A pale yellow robe. Effervescent giving the impression of a cloud, veil of bubbles. On the nose, aromas of tangy red fruits, gooseberry with hints of citrus and a spicy finish. On the palate, aromas of red fruits with a well-balanced, pure and fresh finish.

5. 2011 Perlé Rosé, Ferrari £65 Alto Adige, Italy Like its partner above, the Rose from Ferrari sees a minimum of 5 years lees aging (actually 7 in this case) As well as full fermentation on the skins. The result is a more complex, food orientated sparkling wineThan you might think. Hints of tannin, zippy acidity and ripe red fruits.

6. NV Ice Cuvée Sparkling, Peller £55 Ontario, Canada Very fine bubbles spiral upwards, through this brilliant yellow straw coloured wine. The bouquet of apricot, yeast and ripe apple, with hints of honey, are followed by tropical fruits on the palate and a refreshing sweet grapefruit finish.

20. NV Pommery Brut Royal £63 Champagne, France The colour is pale yellow with faint green highlights. This is lively, fresh and vivacious, fine, delicate and generous. Citrus fruit and white flower notes combine with small red fruits to offer elegance balanced with great finesse and complex finish.

21. NV Special Cuvée, Bollinger £102 Champagne, France One of the finest non-vintage Champagnes available, always rich, toasty and full bodied, with wonderful concentration and depth of flavour. Many Champagne houses aspire to this style but few succeed as well as Bollinger.

22. NV Blanc de Noirs, Gonet Médeville £70 Champagne, France A delicate pale gold with silvery highlights. Persistent bubbles giving an exceptional mousse. On the palate this Champagne displays dark cherry, currant and strawberry flavours with hints of cassis and blackberry. The finish is soft and lingering.

23. NV Pommery Blanc De Blancs £95 Champagne, France Made from 100% Chardonnay for a light, fresh champagne ideal for drinking on long, warm sunny days or simply as a reminder of the summer. Look for the light golden colour tinged with green and indulge in aromas of hay and freshly cut grass.

24. NV Ruinart Blanc De Blanc £125 Champagne, France Beautiful pale golden yellow colour with gentle green reflections, a vibrant, luminous colour. Active effervescence with a persistent release of bubbles. At first very intense on the nose, with fresh fruit notes, particularly ripe citrus fruits. A second refined floral nose with notes of white flowers and fruits (white peaches, pineapple). A supple, harmonious attack on the palate, very rounded. Vinosity that is not excessive, supported by excellent freshness. Notes of nectarines, citrus fruits with a pleasant mineral quality in the finish. Long, very refreshing finish.

Rosé

25. NV Pommery Brut Rosé £88 Champagne, France Delicate pink with salmon tones in colour and fine bubbles. The nose has small red berries suggesting roundness and softness enhanced by vivacious freshness. A subtle rosé character with a perfectly rounded, long finish.

26. NV Veuve Clicquot, Rosé £105 Champagne, France A relatively recent addition to the Veuve Clicquot stable, this medium bodied rosé is reminiscent of the power and finesse of the non-vintage label, with a soft red-fruit core. Match with smoked salmon or strawberries and cream for optimum enjoyment.

27. NV Ruinart Rosé £140 Champagne, France Premier and Grand Cru sites only supply the grapes for this excellent rosé, which is made up of 45% Chardonnay and 55% Pinot Noir, with 18% of the latter added as red wine. A subtle nose of rosehip, spice and wild strawberry; on the palate the wine marries exuberant fruit with a richly velvety texture.

8 VINTAGE CHAMPAGNE

28. 2007 Bollinger Grande Année £170 Champagne, France There is an abundance of ripe and generous flavour on the nose, with quince, caramelised apple and hazelnut standing out. The palate is broad, with a creamy texture from the oak fermentation and fine, delicate mousse. There is a note of honey on the long finish.

29. 2006 Dom Ruinart £260 Champagne, France A straw yellow in color, it offers aromas of citrus, tree fruits, mint and steely minerality on the nose. On the palate, flavors of citrus and sea spray with fantastic acidity, silky texture and toasty notes on finish

30. 2006 Pommery Grand Cru £92 Champagne, France A lovely light yellow colour with an effervescence of tiny and delicate bubbles.Mineral nose surrounded by citrus fruits, followed by mature lemon. Next appear light and delicate scents of spices and white fruits that impart the wine with all its richness. In the mouth, upright and long. Mineraliry transmits length, fineness and elegance.

31. 2004 Lanson Gold Label Vintage £108 Champagne, France Lanson Gold Label offers the ultimate expression of a single great year. Aged for longer Lanson Gold Label is produced without malolactic fermentation just as all of Lanson’s Champagnes are but has minimum of five years ageing on the lees. Lanson Gold Label is light gold colour with fine bubbles, intense aromas revealing notes of candied fruits, grape jam, acacia and lime tree flowers honey. On the palate a dense attack expressing rich and complex aromas of winter pear and quince with some notes of fig. Well balanced with a persistent finish.

32. 2004 Pommery Cuvée Louise £220 Champagne, France Delicately and finely bubbled. Tight and persistent cordon. Clear and bright. Aroma is mature and inviting. Taste is pure and mineral with its attack on the palate. An unexpected vivaciousness for Champagne of this age.

101. 2016 Cortese Amonte, Volpi £24 Piemonte, Italy Light and crisp with delicate citrus fruit aromas and nuances of freshly mown grass and almonds.

102. 2017 Sauvignon Blanc, De Gras £26 Colchagua Valley, Chile Clear and bright in the glass with an aromatic nose that offers herbaceous characters alongside gooseberry, lychee and lemon aromas. The palate is dry, medium bodied and clean as a whistle as the grassy, lemon lime flavours are encouraged with a crisp structure that makes for a dangerously easy drinking, refreshing wine.

103. 2017 Petit Chenin, Ken Forrester Wines £29 Western Cape, South Africa A youthful fresh wine with quince and pear drop flavours. Real freshness on the palate with crunchy green apple and grapefruit flavours. Good mouth feel and appetisingly tangy finish.

105. 2017 Íntimo Blanco, Humberto Canale £32 Patagonia, Argentina Attractive straw colour with green flecks. On the nose, it has a vibrant citrus nose followed by hints of grass and a touch of tropical fruit. On the palate it has a refreshing taste again with citrus fruit and a hint of ripe stone/tropical fruit.

106. 2017 Artolas White, Vidigal £23.50 Lisboa, Portugal Refreshing nose with tropical fruit and citrus notes, with emphasis on the passion fruit character. The palate is bright with mineral notes and a long, lemony finish.

107. 2015 Briccotondo Arneis, Langhe DOC, Fontanafredda £36 Piemonte, Italy Bright straw yellow with greenish highlights. The bouquet conjures up exotic fruit, ripe pears, hawthorn blossom and acacia honey. Soft and full on the palate with a refreshing crispness and luscious finish.

108. 2017 Rueda Verdejo, Ramón Bilbao £33 Rueda, Spain Straw yellow colour with emerald hues, bright and clean. On the nose this 100% Verdejo is intense and aromatic with a tropical character and citrus notes such as lime and peach.

112. 2017 Sancerre Cuvée Insolite, Domaine Franck Millet £51 Loire Valley, France Pronounced, expressive nose of green fruits, fresh cut grass and minerals. The palate is clean and ultra-crisp. Medium bodied and packed with greengage, lime and gooseberry fruit. The finish is clean, showing a real sense of place through its minerality.

135. 2015 Tilly’s Vineyard Dry White, Henschke £40 Eden Valley, Australia Grapefruit, nectarine and peach flavours on the nose together with a tantalising grassy note from the Sauvignon Blanc. The ensemble is a really refreshing wine with plenty of zippy freshness on the finish. 136. 2017 Grüner Veltliner Federspiel Kollmutz, Erich Machherndl £37 Wachau, Austria Fruity, textured white with apples, pears and spice on the palate and a hint of mint on the finish.

138. 2017 Ailalá Treixadura, Ailalá-Ailalelo £35 Ribeiro, Spain Pale gold in colour with lively reflections. There are clean, powerful aromatics on the nose with apricot, white flowers and a sort of saline, sea-shell undertone. Spices such as clove, mint and fennel are also present. The palate displays sweet lemon and ripe melon with plenty of zing and grapefruit peel. A wine of great complexity and style and with bags of character. Treixadura is truly a noble grape!

139. 2017 Black Label PGR Pinot Gewurztraminer Riesling, Yealands £36 Marlborough, New Zealand A delightful white wine packed with flowers and white fruits. Highly aromatic, with a fresh aftertaste.

140. 2017 Gravina Organic Bianco, Botromagno £36 Puglia, Italy Straw coloured, clear and bright. The bouquet is both floral and fruity, reminiscent of apple, peach, apricot and pineapple, with an underlying hint of almond. Dry and firm on the palate with tangy acidity. Light bodied and elegant.

141. 2016 Shoreline, Lyme Bay £39 Devon, England Shoreline combines many of the qualities that make Lyme Bay Winery so special; a crisp and refreshing wine made to match the fine seafood caught all along the Lyme Bay coastline. The combination of Bacchus, Pinot Noir, Reichensteiner and Seyval Blanc results in a wine with plenty of lemon and tropical citrus, supported by elegant floral notes of nettle, rose and lychee and fantastic structure. Grown, picked, pressed and fermented with the upmost care and attention to detail, the wines are then expertly blended to optimum proportions.

142. 2017 Eroica Riesling, Chateau Ste Michelle £51 Washington State, USA Eroica is a labour of love for two of the world’s great Riesling producers – Germany’s Dr Loosen and Washington State’s Chateau Ste. Michelle. Named after Beethoven’s Third Symphony, Eroica reflects not only its variety and site, but also its heritage: boldand forward from its Washington roots, elegant and refined from German inspiration. This Riesling offers sweet lime and tangerine aromas with subtle mineral notes, and a mouth- watering acidity that is beautifully balanced by the generously fruity Washington grapes.

143. 2016 Pinot Gris, Peregrine £47 Central Otago, New Zealand This wine is overflowing with ripe pear, peach, mango and grapefruit notes on both the nose and the palate. The nose is concentrated and complex, with sweet lifted ripe aromas of spicy blackberries, blueberries and prunes, with hints of chocolate, anise and tar. The palate is sweet, ripe and lush, concentrated and complex, with intense blackberry fruits, plum, anise, cedar and tar. The texture is fleshy with silky layered tannins, excellent balance and great length.

492. 2009 Amarone Classico DOC, Bertani £145 Veneto, Italy A deep garnet red colour witnesses the long barrel ageing. The first impression on the nose is of fresh black cherry aromas, leading into notes of maraschino cherry and plum. Immense depth and complexity on the palate: dried fruit, oolong tea, liquorice, spice, red- berry fruits, and a long velvety vanilla note on the finish. However, the key to this wine has got to be the sweetness level. It is genuinely dry, unlike many modern-style competitors.

493. 2013 Milestone Series Syrah, Crossroads £40 Hawkes Bay, New Zealand Sourced from the famous Hawke’s Bay sub-region of Gimblett Gravels, this complex floral wine, with pepper, cherry, plum, blueberry and smoky aromas has a supple, silky palate with bass notes of sweet fruit, fine tannins, and a long spicy finish.

494. 2016 Les Pierres Sèches, Domaine Yves Cuilleron £51 Rhône Valley, France Ruby red in colour with an elegant perfumed fruity nose of raspberry, blueberry, violet and pepper. Fruity, juicy and on the lean side, but firm on the finish.

495. 2013 The Gypsy, Ken Forrester Wines £53 Stellenbosch, South Africa The character is somewhat wild, a little brambly with hints of nutmeg, cinnamon, dark spices, with vanilla scents and a distinct, concentrated red-fruit focus. Great for laying down and keeping for at least ten years but already rewarding if allowed to breathe in a decanter.

497. 2016 The Stump Jump Shiraz, d’Arenberg £33.25 South Australia, Australia The nose is chock-full of fresh blackberries, cherries and dark chocolate sprinkled with spices. The palate is fresh and juicy, ripe red fruits mix with plums, blackcurrant, flowers and a twist of black pepper. The tannins are fine with d’Arenberg’s trademark earthiness helping keep this easy going wine in check.

Bright straw in colour with golden reflections, the nose is very elegant with persistent scents of honey and country flowers. Dry, soft and well balanced with a full body.

Rosé Wine 604. 2014 Mas Amor Rosado, Franck Massard (Magnum) £60 Priorat, Spain Light, elegant complex and dry with vibrant freshness in the glass and a powerful fruity, herby nose. In the mouth there is subtle minerality with a refreshing finish and all from one of the nicest guys in the business.

Complexity in the shape of iodine and soil-like notes follow. The wine is powerful and structured. After decanting, the core of sweet black fruits, plums and mulberries permeates through the savoury layers of earth, shiitake mushrooms and cedarwood spice. The wine is quite compact and focused. A powerful yet refined expression of Shiraz with balance, complexity and persistence.

606. 2012 Rioja Reserva Magnum, Ramón Bilbao (Magnum) £70 Rioja, Spain Lovely garnet colour with medium-high depth of colour. Clear and bright. When the glass is twirled you can see its legs. Sumptuous and classical in style with good use of American oak. Aromas of blackberries, cedar, leather and spices. Good balance on the palate with a long finish.

607. 2010 Reserva, Pago de los Capellanes (Magnum) £155 Ribera del Douro, Spain The nose is intense with a pleasant balance of wood and fruit which notes of vanilla, ripened cherries and plums. Secondary aromas of leather and liquorice are also present. The texture in the mouth is smooth with balanced flavours echoing the nose. The tannins are fine and the finish is long and elegant.
