DAY 1 Wine Country Arrive in Marlborough in the morning ready to start your wine tour late morning. DAY 3 Options Galore Continuing on the food and wine theme, visit Yealands Estate in Seddon, a 40 minute drive from Blenheim. Take in the picturesque views across the vineyards and Cook Strait on a self-guided tour following ‘The White Road’. The route starts from the cellar door where you can collect a map to follow. Discover the rows less travelled on the Yealands Estate White Road Tour, travel at your own pace around their award winning vineyard and discover why they do what they do, with dolly sheep, music in the vines and butterfly gully. If a break from food and wine is needed, visit local gardens and artists’ studios. Be inspired by the heroes of World War I and II through the stories of aviation at the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre, where history is bought to life.
17 Out & About Explore Marlborough’s cultural heritage and native birdlife DAY 1 Art and History Visit the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre in Blenheim, which brings to life the heroes of World War I and II aviation with an unparalleled collection and dramatic lifelike scenes. Spend the rest of the day browsing the many art and craft galleries and local gardens, some have their own tours. Marlborough is home to five gardens of national significance. Visit Brayshaw Park and the Wine history museum. Collect a copy of the Art & Craft Trail map from the local i-SITE Visitor Centres for a self-guided experience.
DAY 2 Wairau Lagoon and Pelorus Bridge Today kayak or walk the historic Wairau Lagoon, spotting more than 90 bird species nesting at New Zealand’s oldest discovered site of occupation. This shallow estuarine waterway of channels, sand spits and islands covers about 2,400 hectares. The islands are low and flat, ideal for nesting birds such as swan, black-backed gull and royal spoonbill. In the afternoon take a drive out towards Havelock and visit the Pelorus Bridge Scenic Reserve, home to the last remaining population of bats in Marlborough and one of the only lowland podocarp forests in the region. While you are there, enjoy a swim in the river and an ice cream from the local café.

Hand feed kakariki (NZ native parrot), hunt for wild wetas, enjoy the safe swimming beach, kayak around the sheltered coastline, go on the Great New Zealand Art Hunt, feed the stingrays and you don’t even have to get wet to discover what lives under the sea by boarding the Underwater Observatory and see local fish, crayfish in their natural habitat. Enjoy fabulous food in the café. From Lochmara Lodge, head back to Picton in time for a Beachcomber cruise out to Motuara Island bird sanctuary, one of four reserve islands in the Queen Charlotte Sounds, for a guided nature walk. Keep an eye out for dolphins and seals en route! Stay the night at Picton Yacht Club Hotel and enjoy Picton’s picturesque foreshore with aquarium, museums, mini golf, children’s playground and marina.
DAY 2 Blenheim Transfer to Blenheim and visit the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre, which brings to life the heroes of World War One and World War II aviation with an unparalleled collection and dramatic lifelike scenes. Enjoy a long lunch at a local café and take a walk through Wither Hills Farm Park in the afternoon, a network of walks with views over the vineyard- studded Wairau Plains.
