We intended from the beginning to make an impact which would lead to action, and there have been some encouraging early results in the form of new commitments from the broadcasters. But this is only a start. In publishing our final report and recommendations, we hope and expect that the debate will become even more visible and audible – with particular focus on the key opportunities and challenges we have identified in broadcasting and the new digital platforms. What has been refreshing is the extent to which both the industry and its audiences are at least as excited about the future as they are critical of some of the weaknesses of the past and present. -

INNS are increasingly abundant in Great Britain and in Europe generally and their impact is rising. Hence, INNS are the subject of considerable concern in Great Britain, prompting the development of a Non-Native Species Strategy and the formation of the GB Non-Native Species Programme Board and Secretariat. -

Moray Offshore Renewables Limited - Environmental Statement Telford, Stevenson and MacColl Offshore Wind Farms and Transmission Infrastructure 5 Human Environment 5.1 Commercial Fisheries 5.1 5.1.1 Introduction 5.1.1.1 This chapter summarises the baseline study of commercial fishing activities, including salmon and sea trout fisheries, in the vicinity of the three proposed development sites (Telford, Stevenson and MacColl) and the offshore transmission infrastructure (OfTI). For the purpose of this study, commercial fishing is defined as CHAPTER any legal fishing activity undertaken for declared taxable profit. 5.1.1.2 The following technical appendices support this chapter and can be found as: Technical Appendix 4.3 B (Salmon and Sea Trout Ecology Technical Report). Technical Appendix 5.1 A (Commercial Fisheries Technical Report). 5.1.1.3 For the purposes of this assessment, salmon and sea trout fisheries in the Moray Firth are separately addressed to other commercial fisheries, as a result of their being located largely in-river (with the exception of some coastal netting) and being different in nature to the majority of marine commercial fishing activities. In addition, due to the migratory behaviour of salmon and sea trout, fisheries have been assessed for all rivers flowing into the Moray Firth. It is also recognised that salmon is a qualifying feature or primary reason for Special Area of Conservation (SAC) site selection of the following rivers in the Moray Firth: Berriedale and Langwell Waters SAC (primary reason); River Moriston -

The majority of the research relates to 2019 and early 2020 but, given the extraordinary events that surround the Covid-19 pandemic, Ofcom has undertaken research into how our viewing and news consumption habits have changed during this period. This is explored in the Impact of Covid-19 on audiences and broadcasters section. The report provides updates on several datasets, including bespoke data collected directly from licensed television and radio broadcasters (for output, spend and revenue in 2019), Ofcom’s proprietary consumer research (for audience opinions), and BARB and RAJAR (for audience consumption). BBC RESPONSE TO “THE FUTURE OF CHILDREN’S TELEVISION PROGRAMMING” 1. Introduction and summary 1.1. The BBC welcomes Ofcom’s discussion paper of the 3rd October 2007 and the opportunity to engage in debate around the importance of provision of UK-originated television programming for children. 1.2. Children’s programming is among the most important content the BBC produces. At its best, children’s television is a model for public service broadcasting – it has been informing, educating and entertaining millions of British children for 60 years. 1.3. The BBC plays a unique and central role in the provision of Children’s TV programming in the UK. The BBC’s level of investment is far higher than any other provider in the UK broadcasting market, its reach and quality perception is higher than any other broadcaster, and the contribution that the BBC makes to the UK’s creative industries in this area is well recognised. It is a training ground for producers; a standard setter in terms of programme quality; a model for other providers in terms of diversity and on-screen portrayal; and a trailblazer on the web and multi-platform. 1.4. Through a unique range of UK-produced output, BBC Children’s contributes to all the BBC’s public purposes, providing dedicated programmes which engage and inspire children and encourage them to participate and interact with broadcast content. The output provides positive role models of children for children, and through programmes like Newsround, opens children’s eyes and minds to the world around them. Television can help children to understand themselves and their role in the world, and through moments of silliness and humour help children to relax and laugh out loud. -

Introduction 1.1 In the last licence fee settlement in February 2000 Chris Smith, the then Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport (‘Secretary of State’) said the BBC should “provide a strong and distinctive schedule of benchmark quality programmes on all its services and should drive the take-up of new digital and on-line services”. 1.2 By the end of 2002, the BBC had, as part of its response, launched five new digital radio services (the radio stations 1Xtra, BBC 6, BBC 7, BBC Asian Network and Five Live Sports Extra) and four new digital TV services (the channels BBC 3, BBC 4, CBeebies and CBBC). 1.3 In April 2004, the Secretary of State commissioned two independent reviews – one of the BBC's digital TV services (led by Professor Patrick Barwise) and the other of the BBC’s digital radio services (led by Tim Gardam). -

No text of specified style in document. Introduction Scope of this review 1. This report presents the findings of our second service review of the BBC’s children’s services. Our first report was published in 2009. Annex 1 summarises the main findings and conclusions of that review. 2. Part 1 of this report considers how well CBeebies and CBBC are now performing against their service licences (figure 1). Figure 1: Service licence remits of CBeebies and CBBC CBeebies To offer high-quality, mostly UK-produced programmes to educate and entertain the BBC's youngest audience. The service should provide a range of programming designed to encourage learning through play in a consistently safe environment for children aged 6 or under. CBBC To provide a wide range of high-quality, distinctive content for 6-12 year olds, including drama, entertainment, comedy, animation, news and factual. The great majority of this content should be produced in the UK. CBBC should provide a stimulating, creative and enjoyable environment that is also safe and trusted. The service should have a particular focus on informal learning, with an emphasis on encouraging participation. It explores the impact that different approaches to creative industries policy have on creative practice in two media industries, BBC Scotland and Scottish Screen, and reflects on how each of these bodies articulates its role as a „national‟ institution. BBC Scotland is the Scottish branch of the UK‟s largest public service broadcaster, while Scottish Screen exists on a far smaller scale, to serve the screen industries in Scotland. The thesis examines the role of BBC Scotland in sustaining the creative economy and contributing to the cultural life of Scotland. The study of Scottish Screen examines a key early aim of the agency, that of establishing a national film studio. The work investigates the connections between UK and Scottish levels of creative industries policy in light of the debates over the future of public service broadcasting and the Scottish Executive‟s cultural policy framework. The study outlines how ideas of cultural creativity and its economic significance have developed, charts how these ideas have affected policy debate, and explores the extent to which devolution has affected film and television policy. -
