BEGINNINGS December 25, 2020 Hello everyone! We are a Cat & Girl team aka Rumi & Shosho - a bonded pair who have a story to tell. Don’t miss out, click here. Thank you for stepping into our world. We welcome both Rumi’s instafollowers and new friends to our blog “THE MAU STORY” . In this space, you will read about all things MAU related, all things Rumi related. But what do I mean when I say MAU? So first things first, Who is a MAU? The word Mau in Arabic means a stray cat. And for those of you who don’t know Rumi is an Omani Mau, meaning a street cat from the Middle Eastern country of Oman. You must visit. It is a place like no other. We promise. Anyone who has met an Omani Mau in their life can stand testament to their unique personalities. Dog like and expert conversationalists are the words that first come to mind. Infact, I haven’t met an Omani Mau who didn’t speak back. But wouldn’t it be interesting to see what genetic influences Rumi’s DNA holds? Uhm, don’t you know enough about me already? No Rumi, thanks to you I suffer from an incurable malady by the name of “MAU - fixation” I must say at this point Rumi did offer his sympathies. Having used the 23andMe ancestry kit, I looked for a similar service that uncovered the deeper mysteries of our companion felines. I stumbled upon Basepaws Cat DNA Kits. After a few weeks of sending in his swab sample, the much awaited results popped up in my inbox. Here’s what I found out. For the most part, Rumi’s stand out qualities possibly came from Eastern cats and he resembles the tiger, leopard, cougar and cheetah in that order. Peterbald Dog like demeanor, follows favorite human around Savannah Exotic, highly trainable, athletic, muscular Thai Siamese Outgoing, very vocal, will demand your attention Tiger Wildcat spots, muscular As far as health markers go, Base paws tested Rumi’s DNA for 17 prevalent genetic diseases and he got a clear for all dominant traits. This wasn’t surprising since Oman is a desert region primarily, Rumi may share traits with the original desert cat - The Arabian Mau. Being one of the few natural breeds remaining, the Arabian Mau has impeccable immunity. And most Omani Maus from what I’ve seen have the slightly larger ears to release excess heat like the desert cat. And lastly, Rumi shows no major relation to the Egyptian Mau even though they share the spotted patterns and vocal personalities. Hard to believe but I hear the Egyptian Maus in the recent years show DNA mostly from North America and Europe even though the very first cat may have been from Egypt. If you made it so far - Congratulations! You’ve reached the end of our first post. You are now officially MAU - fixated! Don’t forget to grab your Maufixation T-shirt here and help an Omani Mau in need. As we take your leave, we leave you with a quote from Rumi’s namesake, the Sufi poet Rumi - “Respond to every call that excites your spirit.” Much needed love & light, Rumi & Shosho Scroll down and Be an insider to be the first to read our next blog post!.
