In the past this abstinence was a strict matter for the religious Paulaner monks. Therefore, they used their abbey brewery to invent a very strong beer, the so called “liquid bread”. The beer was nutritious, but didn’t break the fasting. Today this beer is named “Salvator” and there is a festival to celebrate it. Every year the festival takes place at the Paulaner ballroom at Nockherberg.
