A kaleidoscope of concerts is happening in Novosibirsk this month. Jazz fans should not miss the Billy’s Band - a num- ber one jazz and blues band from Saint-Petersburg, and Uma2rman, who represents blues from Moscow. For theater lovers there is Anton Chekhov’s all time classic “The Cherry Orchard”. Ballet fans will be fascinated by “La Bayadere”, which is one of the main “imperial” ballets along with “Swan Lake”, “Sleeping Beauty” and “Raymonda”. The ones who prefer silent gallery walks should not miss the chance to see 365 paintings related to guardian angels at “Angels of Peace” exhibition. Also, there is an interesting photo exhibition “Colors of the Earth”, which exhibits wonders of the Earth. Lions, monkeys, bears and many other animals from different countries are waiting for you and your children at Novosibirsk Zoo. However, due to the profound interest of music, the lineup has since doubled and now includes 4 violins, 2 cellos and 2 altos, with each member playing a vital part in arranging the whole performance. The fine reper- toire of the ensemble represents works by such distinguished composers as Bach, Mozart, Vivaldi, Borodin, Piazzolla and Gardel. Consequently, this show is sure to have more of a dancing angle, as apart from the Big Band itself, it’s going to include the students of the local dance school “Swing Time”. Being born in Rybinsk in the fam- ily of musician and conductor Arkady Shatsky, she started her career in her father’s jazz band “Rainbow”. For a while she worked in the theater “Commonwealth of Taganka Actors”. Then she became an actress of the Moscow Theater School of Modern Play. There she was involved in a variety of productions, the most prominent being Anton Chekhov’s “Gull”, where she played the part of Polina Andreevna. The band defines its style as “romantic alco-jazz”. Billy’s Band immediately became an avatar of St. Petersburg, a true symbol of the cultural capital, such as the White Nights and the Bascule Bridges. Sincere and at the same time ironic lyrics made Uma2rman both famous and beloved by the public. The band “Uma2rman” started out at 2003, when the brothers decided to join forces and recorded 15 songs together and sent them to Moscow. Very soon the musicians were noticed, and already at the end of that year the band’s first public performance took place in the capital. The landowner Lyubov Andreyevna Ranevskaya returns from Paris to her family estate, which is on the brink of ruin. The main value of this estate is a luxurious cherry garden, which for Ranevskaya is a memory of the family, childhood and home. This historical event was used by the French playwright Eugene Scribe in his play. Giuseppe Verdi wanted to create a work that is both politi- cally relevant and kindred to the Italian people. The composer suggested Antonio Somma to write a libretto based on Scribe’s play. The tragic fate of the temple dancer Nikiya unfolds against the background of Indian exoticism, grandiose dance ensembles and impressive stage effects. Bayaders were temple dancers in India, where the plot of the ballet unfolds. Warrior Solor and the Great Brahmin are fighting for the heart of beautiful Nikiya. Nikiya favors Solor, but her destiny has completely different plans.
