Ronan Farrow is a contributing writer to The New Yorker and a documentary producer based at HBO. We are seeking candidates for an Investigative Researcher position to join our dynamic team.

The ideal candidate for this full-time position must have a reporting background, and be adept and dogged at both unearthing new leads and sources and supporting and providing research assistance during existing reporting. They must have strong news judgment and a knack for sleuthing out information others might have missed and synthesizing that information into pitches for potential stories. They must be able to conduct careful and empathic conversations with confidential sources and demonstrate the highest level of discretion with sensitive information. Useful skills include using social media and database searches to track down sources, as well as facility obtaining and deciphering documents, including filing requests for government, court, and financial records. Candidate must be self-driven and highly independent, but also comfortable with taking direction on short notice during busy periods ahead of deadlines. Candidate must be able to remain calm under deadline pressure and possess a sense of humor.

They will have worked at a major metropolitan daily newspaper, media organization or equivalent for at least three years. Candidates should have knowledge of public records databases such as NEXIS, Accurint, TLO and Spokeo, should be familiar with the news aggregators and specialized collections including PACER, Leadership Directories, JSTOR, TV Eyes, Dialog, Ancestry, Guidestar, Political MoneyLine and Legistorm, and should be fluent in filing requests under the Freedom of Information Act.
