Béla Bartók Lassú: Moderato (1881-1945) Friss: Allegro moderato _________________ Ford-Crawford Hall Saturday Afternoon September Fourteenth Five O’Clock music.indiana.edu Wonji Kim, a native of Seoul, Korea, has been playing the violin since the age of five, studying first with Chong-Suk Li and later with Max Rostal and Igor Ozim in Switzerland. In 1994, she received her soloist diploma with distinction from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Bern. She has participated in master classes with Donald Weilerstein, Sylvia Rosenberg, and Yfrah Neaman. Since winning several national and international prizes, Kim has appeared as a soloist with the Seoul Symphony Orchestra, Berner Sinfonie Orchester, Zürcher Kammerorchester, Hungarian National Chamber Orchestra, and the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra (conducted by Vladimir Fedosejev). She has been a member of the faculty of the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, since 2003, following previous positions at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna and Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Bern (as an assistant for Igor Ozim). Wonmin Kim is a much sought-after pianist in the United States and Europe, and has collaborated with many of today’s most important artists, including Sarah Chang, Cho Liang Lin, Ilya Gringolts, Chee Yun, Robert Mann, Wolfgang Schmidt, Chun Wen Huang, and Igor Ozim, among others. Kim has performed numerous times with members of the International Sejong Soloists and collaborates in chamber music formations with members of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. More recent concert highlights include a U.S. tour with violinist Chuan Yun Li and a collaboration with Igor Ozim in the “World Masters Series” at Kumho Art Hall (Seoul), which was also broadcasted by the Korean Broadcast System (KBS) and televised by Arirang TV. Previous engagements as soloist and chamber music partner have led her to appearances in celebrated concert venues including Carnegie Weill Hall, Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, Strathmore, Kimmel Center, Zürich Tonhalle (Switzerland), Kioi Hall (Tokyo), Seoul Art Center, and Sejong Art Hall (Seoul). Kim has frequently appeared on television and radio broadcasts, including WQXR (New York), Swiss Radio International, and KBS. She is featured on the KBS CD Korean Musicians for the 21st Century. Previous engagements include staff collaborative piano positions at The Juilliard School, North Carolina School of the Arts, Aspen Music Festival and School, Summer Academy Mozarteum Salzburg (Austria), Great Mountain International Music Festival and School (South Korea), and Meadowmount School of Music. She returns annually as artist faculty to the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival in Burlington, Vt. In 2011, Kim joined the piano faculty at the DePauw University School of Music. Previously, she taught at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including Juilliard’s most prestigious Vladimir Horowitz Award. Kim holds degrees from the Konservatorium für Musik und Theater Bern (Switzerland) and Juilliard..
