This is not necessarily a "Green" home and does not take into consideration air-quality. It focuses on resource efficiency, energy efficiency, water conservation, and "providing for the future"; all of which are a part of a “green” home design, but not exhaustive. In some instances, we have provided “preferred” options as well as less costly means of attaining a near "High Performance" home. IMPORTANT: It is important to note that this information (these parameters) and the related detailed drawings are specifically for homes that are to be built in Southwest Texas (primarily the "hill country" type climate). The Climate Zone is three (3). Site Design Features: • Heat Mitigation: a. Shade hardscape (drives, walks, etc.) with shade trees or such. b. Utilize turf pavers for drive and/or walks, patios, etc. Resource Efficiency: • Drip edge (eaves and gables): a. Minimizes wicking and water distribution off roof material, decking, and fascia. • Roof Water Discharge: a. Provide gutters and downspout system with splash blocks (or such) to carry water a minimum of five feet from foundation (or utilize water harvesting system – see below). • Finish Grade: a. Provide a minimum fall of six inches for each ten feet from edge of building. • Flashing (galvanized metal): a. Flash roof valleys. b. Flash deck/balcony to building intersections. c. Flash at roof-to-wall intersections and roof-to-chimney intersections. d. Provide a drip cap above windows and doors that are not flashed or protected by coverings like pent roofs or are recessed in the exterior wall at least 24 inches.

    Seven Centuries of Energy Services: The Price and Use of Light in the United Kingdom (1300-2000)1 Roger Fouquet* and Peter J.G. Pearson** Before the mid-eighteenth century, most people lived in near-complete darkness except in the presence of sunlight and moonlight. Since then, the provision of artificial light has been revolutionised by a series of innovations in appliances, fuels, infrastructures and institutions that have enabled the growing demands of economic development for artificial light to be met at dramatically lower costs: by the year 2000, while United Kingdom GDP per capita was 15 times its 1800 value, lighting services cost less than one three thousandth of their 1800 value, per capita use was 6,500 times greater and total lighting consumption was 25,000 times higher than in 1800. The economic history of light shows how focussing on developments in energy service provision rather than simply on energy use and prices can reveal the ‘true’ declines in costs, enhanced levels of consumption and welfare gains that have been achieved. While emphasising the value of past experience, the paper also warns against the dangers of over-reliance on past trends for the long-run forecasting of energy consumption given the potential for the introduction of new technologies and fuels, and for rebound and saturation effects. 1. Gradually mere light grew to more light and in the dawn of the twentieth century adequate light became available. In a single century, after the development of artificial light began in earnest, the efficiency of light-production increased fifty-fold and the cost diminished correspondingly. The next group of chapters deals with various economic influences of artificial light and with some of the byways in which artificial light is serving mankind.

Technologies of illumination in this period had a great effect on how society operated and how people experienced space and reality. These effects will be studied through reference to contemporary sources, historical analysis, and literary analysis. Each chapter uses a distinct theoretical viewpoint, and maintains a focus on a particular author (where possible). In the first chapter, the role of firelight in the works of Elizabeth Gaskell is examined, using Gaston Bachelard’s ideas on fire and psychology. The second chapter focuses on the role of candlelight in the works of Wilkie Collins, using Jacques Lacan’s theories on the Gaze. Due to the density of metaphoric references to gaslight in his fiction, Émile Zola’s work is the focus of the third chapter, while Jean Baudrillard’s theories on the nature of modern reality inform the theoretical analysis.
