    FACTBOOK 2019 WRC FACTBOOK 2019 / PROGRADE PHOTO OF THE YEAR WRC FACTBOOK 2019 / INTRO WRC FACTBOOK 2019 The 2018 WRC season will be remembered as the most exciting and dramatic in a generation. It is 15 years since a drivers’ title fight of similar magnitude and a compelling season-long battle involving three drivers was finally resolved on the last morning of the season in Australia. It was a similar story in the manufacturers’ championship. All four teams won rallies and three made the long journey Down Under still with an opportunity to claim the crown. Following a similarly enthralling and unpredictable 2017 cam- paign, when new-era World Rally Cars headlined a raft of major changes to the championship, it is clear our sport is in the midst of an unforgettable period in its history. Away from the close competition, the WRC has grown in stature. The year opened with a major launch at Birmingham’s Autosport International show and finished with a glamorous end of season gala in Sydney and with the cars showcased once more in front of Milan’s iconic cathedral in the Piazza del Duomo. Our pioneering WRC+ All Live channel revolutionised the way in which fans could enjoy the sport as it happened. Every special stage from each round was streamed live, featuring stunning onboard and helicopter footage. It was supplemented by expert analysis and reactions from across the service park – adding up to more than 325 hours of live coverage. Our traditional TV coverage thrived too. The WRC’s global audi- ence and the number of broadcast hours continue their positive trend of the last years.

Heyward Wagner has been promoted to Senior Director of Marketing and Experiential Programs. Jon Krolewicz has shifted to Time Trials Program Manager, and Andie Albin to Creative Manager. Blair Deffenbaugh joins the national staff as Marketing Project Manager, and Courtney Rivers has been added as Staffing Coordinator for the Track Night in America Driven by Tire Rack program. In addition, SCCA Ventures Inc., has named Sydney Davis Yagel as General Manager of SCCA Pro Racing. By the time you read this, I will have just returned from the SCCA national convention. This is an event where we have enjoyed success in the recent past – Thierry and Nicolas won the rally last year with Hayden and Seb in third place – and so we are hoping history will repeat itself after a challenging run in Spain last time out. Rally de España proved to be an intense and highly competitive event for all the manufacturers and most crews. The level of competition was incredible and the result was only settled in the Power Stage, offering an exciting finale for the fans. Naturally we were disappointed that Thierry picked up a broken rim that stopped him from taking home a podium. It would have capped off a remarkable comeback weekend after his struggles on day one, but these things happen in rallying, we accept it and move on. We have seen a change in the Drivers’ points with Sébastien Ogier narrowly in front heading to Australia, but at least that means Thierry won’t be first on the road here and he will have the psychological advantage of being the hunter rather than the hunted. With Dani and Carlos finishing fifth in Spain, we have also managed to reduce the gap to Toyota in the Manufacturers’ championship to just 12 points, which is a real boost for the team.

The setup work has all been done now, so hopefully it will be easier to keep things ticking over next year. This newsletter keeps the clinical section short for a change and addresses a couple of aspects of airway management. There is a wrap up of the main categories for this year and a few items of general motorsport interest follow on. Non sono competizioni sportive ma sfide perfette per misurarsi con se stessi e gli altri. 1974 - 1979 Il primo successo lo ricordo come fosse ieri: 1974, Campione Italiano di sci a soli 16 anni. Poi la licenza da pilota, le prime gare di motocross e quel titolo di Campione del Triveneto e di vice Campione Cadetti conquistato due anni più tardi, splendido presagio di quello che sarà il mio futuro. Ricordi di gare, di vittorie, di una moto da cross con il numero 71 e di una carriera come pilota ufficiale Aprilia. Pochi mesi e il grande salto verso quella che, qualche anno più tardi, sarà la mia favola mondiale non tarda arrivare. Una favola a quattro ruote. A 20 anni la prima auto, una Opel Kadett GTE (Gruppo 1): il sogno di correre nei rallies, quelli che contano, diventa realtà. E' il 1979: undici partenze e altrettanti arrivi al traguardo mi consegnano il primo titolo, quell'italiano esordienti che mi proietta sullo scenario dell'affascinante mondo delle corse. 1980 - 1989 Nel 1980, con l'Opel Ascona SR arriva anche il titolo di Gruppo 2 conquistato nei rallies internazionali davanti a quei grandi piloti professionisti che solo pochi anni prima, motorino e zaino in spalla, rincorrevo su e giù per l'Italia ad ammirare le imprese motoristiche. One of the specialties is rebuilding Toyota Corolla WRC cars to the same factory specifications as used by Toyota Team Europe (TTE) in the late nineties of the previous century. The workshop which was opened in 2007 is used to maintain and prepare the Wevers Sport run rally cars. At the workshop all parts fitted on a rally car, such as steering racks, gearboxes, differentials and engines, are being maintained. Wevers Sport is the address for servicing, maintaining and, if needed, renting a (World) Rally Car.
