    MEDIA INFORMATION 2019 FIA World Rally Championship Round 10/14: ADAC Rallye Deutschland The MICHELIN Pilot Sport H5 and S6 ready for Rallye Deutschland’s challenging cocktail of asphalt and concrete stages Although the majority of the rounds that make up the calendar of the 2019 FIA World Rally Championship take place on gravel, the year’s asphalt fixtures counts amongst the sport’s most iconic competitions, including the wintry Rallye Monte-Carlo and France’s Tour de Corse which, this year, was held at the end of March. This week, Round 10 takes competitors to Germany for the campaign’s third sealed-surface rally which is famous for its mix of asphalt and abrasive concrete roads that pose an additional challenge for tyres. The stages themselves vary from narrow vineyard lanes and tracks over army ranges which features numerous changes of surface, to smoother, fast, flowing country roads. Rain is frequently a factor that the teams and crews need to take into account. Although the overall length of the 2019 Rallye Deutschland has been shortened slightly from 1,221.89 to 1,160.35 kilometres compared with 12 months ago, the total competitive distance has increased from 325.76km to 343.95km, while the menu includes 19 special stages instead of 18. As in 2018, the service park is based on the shores of Bostalsee Lake, around 60km south of Trier. For the first time, the wooded recreational park will also host the official start ceremony on Thursday evening. Friday’s programme comprises two attempts at a loop of narrow stages through the vineyards of the nearby Mosel Valley, plus two visits to a very tricky super-special in Wadern-Weiskirchen.

    Dear Rally family, dear friends, Welcome to issue six of the FIA Rally Newsletter, which we are pleased to send out following last week’s online meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council on October 9, 2020. Inside are details of the new eighth and final round of this year’s FIA World Rally Championship, the planned calendar for the 2021 WRC, plus an update on some of the recent regulation changes. From a Regional Rally perspective, we are happy that the FIA Middle East Rally Championship title will be awarded in 2020 following a change to the points-scoring system. We are also humbled by the efforts of the Rally of Lebanon organisers to keep moving ahead with their event in November, despite the devastating explosion in Beirut in August and the suffering and disruption that it has caused. Continuing the Regional Rally theme, we are enthused by the progress of Rally3 with the first car, a Ford Fiesta Rally3 from M-Sport Poland, coming to life during a summer of test and development. An update on the work undertaken by the Rally Safety Task Force and how it helped with the successful running of three events in Croatia, San Marino and Portugal can be found in this edition. Everyone in the Rally Department is very proud that the Sporting Regulations for FIA Rally Star have been approved with momentum really building up following the publication of a detailed set of guidelines to help ASNs around the world organise the initial talent detection events. FIA Rally Star will help to uncover and nurture future world champions by encouraging mass participation in the sport at grassroots level.

    Andreas Mikkelsen set to join Hyundai Motorsport on a full-time basis for the 2018 and 2019 FIA World Rally Championship seasons Mikkelsen will join Thierry Neuville, Dani Sordo and Hayden Paddon under contract with the team for next season, the team’s fifth year in WRC The Norwegian will compete in his first event for Hyundai Motorsport at next weekend’s Rally de España, alongside compatriot co-driver Anders Jæger. Alzenau, Germany September 28, 2017 – Hyundai Motorsport has today confirmed that Andreas Mikkelsen has signed a two-year deal to join the team for the 2018 and 2019 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) seasons. Mikkelsen will compete in all rounds of the 2018 championship in a Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC, co- driven by fellow Norwegian Anders Jæger. Hyundai Motorsport’s existing crews of Thierry Neuville/Nicolas Gilsoul, Dani Sordo/Marc Martí and Hayden Paddon/Seb Marshall all remain under contract for the 2018 season. Andreas Mikkelsen said: “I am delighted that Hyundai Motorsport has offered me the chance to return to the WRC with a full-time seat for 2018 and 2019.     2021 MEDIA GUIDE Arctic Rally Finland February 26 - 28, 2021 ROUND 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 Arctic Rally Finland February 26 - 28, 2021 HYUNDAI’S HELLO Given the freezing temperatures outside, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Arctic Rally Finland and for the first of what we hope will be two visits by the WRC and Hyundai Motorsport to the country in 2021. Before I underline the team’s hopes and expectations for this event, I wish to acknowledge all the hard work that’s gone into putting on this rally in such a short amount of time. The efforts of AKK Sports and all the volunteers, particularly in the context of COVID-19, has really impressed me so a big thank you to them. It’s fair to say we showed our limits on Rallye Monte-Carlo and found ourselves licking our wounds and trying to get ahead. Unfortunately, it didn’t work there and after making some changes to our approach we start the second round of the season hoping it will be much better than the first. Having wished a fond farewell to Carlos del Barrio after Monte as he prepared for the next chapter of his career, we are pleased to welcome back Craig and Paul for the start of their half-season campaign in a Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC. We know very well their ability and determination as they try to make a strong start to their season. As well as our regular World Rally Car drivers, we are giving a big chance to a really promising youngster, Oliver Solberg.
