FACTBOOK 2019 WRC FACTBOOK 2019 / PROGRADE PHOTO OF THE YEAR WRC FACTBOOK 2019 / INTRO WRC FACTBOOK 2019 The 2018 WRC season will be remembered as the most exciting and dramatic in a generation. It is 15 years since a drivers’ title fight of similar magnitude and a compelling season-long battle involving three drivers was finally resolved on the last morning of the season in Australia. It was a similar story in the manufacturers’ championship. All four teams won rallies and three made the long journey Down Under still with an opportunity to claim the crown. Following a similarly enthralling and unpredictable 2017 cam- paign, when new-era World Rally Cars headlined a raft of major changes to the championship, it is clear our sport is in the midst of an unforgettable period in its history. Away from the close competition, the WRC has grown in stature. The year opened with a major launch at Birmingham’s Autosport International show and finished with a glamorous end of season gala in Sydney and with the cars showcased once more in front of Milan’s iconic cathedral in the Piazza del Duomo. Our pioneering WRC+ All Live channel revolutionised the way in which fans could enjoy the sport as it happened. Every special stage from each round was streamed live, featuring stunning onboard and helicopter footage. It was supplemented by expert analysis and reactions from across the service park – adding up to more than 325 hours of live coverage. Our traditional TV coverage thrived too. The WRC’s global audi- ence and the number of broadcast hours continue their positive trend of the last years.

In three weeks in Australia only the title race of the WRC 2 category for private teams will be decided, in this case between ŠKODA drivers Pierre-Louis Loubet (FRA) and Benito Guerra (MEX). A long season has come to a successful end for ŠKODA Motorsport. Having fought so hard for both the Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ titles in 2018, the winter break not only provided an opportunity to recharge our batteries, it was also a great chance to assess how we could be stronger during the season ahead. We therefore begin 2019 rejuvenated and with a firm battle plan in place. Being appointed Team Director of Hyundai Motorsport is a completely new challenge for me and a step forward from what I’ve done so far, which gives me even more motivation to work together with the team to reach our goals. Our objectives for WRC remain the same as they have always been, namely to fight for the Manufacturers’ and Drivers’ titles. This is important for Hyundai and our N brand. The WRC is incredibly competitive and the other teams will want to approach the new season with the same winning mind-set. We have to make sure we’re delivering and performing at our best at all times. In my new role, it is a real privilege to welcome Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena to the Hyundai Motorsport family. Nine-time world champions, they will contest six rounds with our team, starting on Rallye Monte-Carlo, an event they have won a record seven times.

Rally de Portugal was the scene of victory for Thierry and Nicolas last year, and hopefully that memory will inspire them as they look to fight back from their big accident last time out on new territory in Chile, which ended their promising run on that event. It wasn’t all bad news on Rally Chile though, where Sébastien and Daniel did a great job to take their first podium finish as a Hyundai Motorsport crew in third and help keep our title hopes alive. Following that competitive performance, they will compete here in Portugal, with Andreas and Anders rejoining the team for Rally Italia Sardegna next month. This decision was not taken lightly. We need to move forward as a team and make the most effective use of our versatile crew line-up. Sébastien and Daniel had a competitive event in Chile, and have found a good feeling in the car on gravel. We felt their contribution would allow us to increase our points- scoring potential in Portugal. We are trying hard to find a way to get Andreas’s confidence back and we are sure he will approach his next event, Sardinia, in the same way he was able to in Argentina.

  • Michelin, World Rally Champion
MEDIA INFORMATION Boulogne-Billancourt, December 7th, 2020 FIA World Rally Championship 2020 ACI Rally Monza – Seventh and last round Michelin, World Rally Champion • The Drivers’ and Co-Drivers’ crowns with Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia • The Manufacturers’ title with Hyundai Motorsport • Michelin also clinches 2020’s WRC2 and WRC3 titles Victory at this weekend’s ACI Rally Monza saw Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia claim the 2020 FIA World Rally Championship in their Michelin-equipped Toyota Yaris WRC. It is their first Drivers’ crown with the Japanese carmaker and the seventh of their career, a run achieved with three different manufacturers – Volkswagen, Ford (M-Sport ) and Toyota. The French duo has combined exceptional speed and reliability over the past 10 decade, during which it claimed every one of its world titles on Michelin rubber. Sebastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia overcame extraordinarily challenging weather in northern Italy to finish Rally Monza ahead of second- and third-placed Ott Tänak/Martin Järveoja and Dani Sordo/Carlos Del Barrio who allowed Michelin’s partner Hyundai Motorsport to top the FIA WRC Manufacturers’ standings for the second year running. “First of all, I would like to congratulate Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia on winning their seventh world title, and also Hyundai Motorsport on successfully defending its 2019 Manufacturers’ crown,” says Arnaud Rémy, the manager of Michelin’s rally programmes. “These titles were secured on an event that wasn’t initially part of the 2020 WRC calendar but which turned out to be extremely challenging, with the week’s treacherous conditions including heavy snow. Since 2011, the year Michelin returned to the WRC after an absence of five years, Ogier and Ingrassia have won seven of the 10 Drivers’ titles up for grabs, in three different cars all equipped with Michelin rubber.
